Voice Choices
Yes it's been suggested various times over the years. I know other games allow you to choose from several default voice selections so it's not an entirely new idea.
The only reason I can see that this wasn't done here was that the Devs must have been worried about having to transmit the data around to all the other players about which voice you were using. But since this could literally be done with an extra byte (or less) worth of data per message it would seem the bandwidth impact to the game would be negligible.

I used to play Neverwinter Nights and I really miss having voice acting attached to the emotes. Laugh is especially missed.
But I kind of understand why they didn't. Having someone walk around constantly evoking their laugh or whatever could get irritating but that's what /ignore is for... right? Or an option to turn off voices?
Ah well.
I'm not asking for anything special. I don't need a whole voice system or anything. I'd just like some basic options for voice for those few times when player characters do vocalize.
Lunar Lad shouldn't grunt like the Hulk, he should grunt like Robin.
Remember when /e howl was first added to the game? For about a week you couldn't run 5 yards in Atlas without hearing someone howl. It got so annoying they had to institute a block to keep people from spamming it.
Also, the grunt and footstep sounds are tied to your model selection. If they do ever figure out how to make model selections adjustable at the Tailors they may need to implement a Voice selection to make it work.
Suggested list of voice and movement audio selections:
Male (standard)
Male Young (younger voice, same footfalls as Male)
Female (standard)
Female Young (younger voice, same footfalls as Female)
Huge (standard)
Huge Young (younger voice, same footfalls as Huge)
Animal (high bestial grunts, padded footfalls with the hint of scraping nails)
Beast (deep bestial grunts, padded footfalls with the hint of scraping nails)
Robot (no grunts, clinking and clanging footfalls)
Huge Robot (no grunts, deep clanging footfalls)
I've suggested this at least twice, I think both times as a part of general audio customization. Footsteps are a big thing for me - if I want my feet to sound like bare feet, I can't, because females always sound like they're wearing high heels, males like they're wearing hard boots and huge like they're wearing drums on their feet, regardless of what boots you actually have or how big you are. "Boom! Boom! Boom!" footsteps from a four-foot-tall midget stopped being funny four years ago.
Completely agreed on the voices thing. I'd add footsteps, movement sounds and a landing sound. Maybe your character is a robot and he whirs like an electric motor every time he moves? Or maybe he's electrostatically charged and pops when he moves around? The options are many, and on the scale of difficult things to make, this one is about as difficult as setting up a system for it. Unlike custom animations, sounds don't need to flow into each other and sound packs tend to be freely available over the 'net, not to mention already implemented into the game.

I too have made this suggestion. Some of the voices/footsteps just sound wrong for my characters. I'd love to see it changed.
Yeah like Blackavaar said it'd be hard to see how anyone could really grief someone with this because we are talking about our default "movement" sounds not anything that could be emoted manually.
Of course I suppose if you had some idiot with a huge male body assign himself the most 'girly-girly' sounding voice/sound set and constantly jumped up and down next to you that could be annoying. But it's not like someone couldn't jump up and down next to you like that now.
At this point I think it could be a realistic QoL update, especially since I believe it would be a relatively easy character "customization", at least easier than full blown power customization would be at any rate.

At the very least they could possibly tie voice to size.. the taller the character, the lower the treble/pitch (heavier/more solid footfalls).. the thicker the character, the deeper the resonance/bass of voice (heavier/louder footfalls).
Allow the effects to stack... so a tall, thick character has a deep, booming voice and big thudding footfalls. A short, thin character would have a higher pitched voice and lighter/quieter footfalls.
As a side bonus, maybe add two new footfall sounds... "Bare Foot" and "Monstrous". Have these be tied into character creation.. w/shoes = normal sound, monstrous = padded-w/nail scraping, bare feet (or cloth covered) = bare foot sound.. and robots already have metallic footfalls.
so yes.. sounds like a great idea. i've long had the same pet peeve, so...

I wouldn't force it, though. Being a massive animation fan, I had to go see "Up" this past weekend, and <SPOILER> I about lost it when the Alpha leader of the dogs, a Doberman pinscher, started speaking in the high, squeaky voice.</SPOILER>
Plus, who wouldn't want to make a Mike Tyson-voiced character, especially as a villain?
Just picked up The Sims 3 yesterday, and they have three different voices for each gender and then a pitch slider. Very nice!
However, that doesn't answer the question of whether a character could avoid the grunts and such that living creatures would make, because they're actually a robot or a ghost, etc.
Regardless of what people want, someone will brandish the SCRA and we'll all hang our heads in disappointment.

Has anyone suggested the addition of various voice options under character creation? My hero, Lunar Lad, is a twelve-year-old boy but his voice when he jumps sounds like that of a full-grown man. I'd really love to be able to choose something like "Young Boy" from a dropdown menu under "Voice."
