War Mace

i quit playing right before I10. i have been reading the boards and playing for a few weeks now and i am noticing many more threads and toons discussing/with warmace builds.

i thought i was just about the only warmace tank in existence on the guardian server back then so i am wondering...have their been some significant changes to warmace since I9?

if so...where can i find those changes. (and any changes to invuln would be nice to know too : )

thanks for your help.

Yes, warmace got boosted recently. Clobber became the hardest hitter in the set, and the radius on some of the cones was increased slightly. Basically, it's behind only fire for AoE damage and has significant mitigation still.

i knew they switched the order of jawbreaker and clobber...so they did that and then boosted clobber's damage to extreme?

hmmm....i may need to respec.

Hello there, well there've been quite a few updates to the mace in the past few years, mostly brought on by weapon customization and a new found interest in the set.

Quick recap,
The powers Clobber and Jawbreaker were switched in the order that you can now obtain them
>8-1-06

Weapon Customization
>11.28.07

Minor change to the Build Up graphical and sound effect
>12-11-07

Modified Attack times and minor changes to duration of the rooted portion of attack animations for War Mace
Activation changes
----pre- post-
Pulverize 1.83 1.60
Bash 1.37 1.33
Clobber 1.83 1.23
Jawbreaker 2.87 1.80
Shatter 2.87 2.33
Crowd cont 2.27 2.00
>12-11-07

The cast time for Whirling Mace, Pulverize, and Jawbreaker were altered.
----pre- -post
Whirling Mace 2.87 2.67
Pulverize 1.60 1.50
Jawbreaker 1.80 1.83
>5-20-08

Increased radius of War Mace Crowd Control from 5’ to 8’.
Decreased radius of War Mace Shatter from 10’ to 8’, but increased its arc of attack from 20 degrees to 45 degrees. Crowd Control and Shatter changed from knock back to knock down
>2-12-08

And the biggest update came last Dec, thanks to Castle,
Clobber: Reduced Recharge Time to 16 seconds and alter damage scale and endurance costs to match using the standard formula. This means it it now a pretty hard hitting attack, with a damage scale of 2.29 and a base endurance cost of 15.18. Since this is now classified as a Damage power rather than a control power, the base duration of the Stun effect was reduced from scale 10 to scale 5.
Shatter: Reduced Max Targets Hit from 10 to 5.
Crowd Control: Increased Max Targets Hit from 5 to 10.
>12-2-08
And one minor change in Jan,
War Mace - Crowd Control - Corrected range and radius to 8 feet
War Mace - Shatter - Corrected range and radius to 8 feet
War Mace - Whirling Mace- Corrected range and radius to 8 feet
>1-21-09

So mace has been quite a project in recent years, and to get an idea of where it now ranks among the other sets take a look at Starsman's charts.

Mace currently has good attack speeds, some disorienting capabilities, an accuracy bonus, moderate endurance use, heavy smashing aoe, and strong ST damage.

On the other side you could say it only has moderate stun effects,
and comparatively lacks a "wow" power ie Total Focus-Knock Out Blow, although Crowd Control is now like a half Footstomp.

Hope that helps.

War Mace is definitely a lot less underwhelming then it used to be.

My only complain with the set is lack of a "Hurl" type of ability (i.e. Thor's Hammer) and the underwhelming animations.

The graphical customizations to the set were pretty impressive though, and in whole the set is fun to work now (as opposed to the tedium it used to be).

Acemace's explanation is awesome.

War Mace is worth it just for Crowd Control alone. One big swing that sends crowds of baddies flying is just awesome. My second fave power behind Foot Stomp.

I have to agree. Crowd Control, along with Shatter and Clobber (and to a lesser extent Whirling Mace) does make me feel powerful. With that and Shield Charge, I feel like an AoE monster. I loved that the community got involved and convinced the Devs to fix War Mace. Great job guys.

I really like Jawbreaker, especially with the "crunch" sound effect. Also, when short toons use that power, it looks like they're smacking the enemy in the junk.
