One of my favorite shows of all time was another Briliant but Cancelled, from 1998.

Brimstone

If any of you are lucky enough to remember this BEAUTIFUL masterpeice of storytelling, I think I still have all the episodes.

COMING SOON: A new Epic that will change the way you see Arachnos...

Ok...maybe not *all* crap. However, I came to the conclusion that even for basic cable....I was paying WAYYYY too much for the like 3 shows I actually enjoyed.

I mean I spent more time checking the news and the weather channel than anything else. Then off the cable and back to the Xbox or PC games.

I'll miss Life. That was a great show.

I've heard Terminator may return based on how well the movie does.

Brimstone sorely needs a DVD release.

I think that television programming is beginning to change, slowly but surely, and for the better. Just not so much on the former flagship stations.

Look back to the 90's, the heyday of sindicated TV shows. You had some really darn good programs on. Babylon 5, Hercules, Xena and there were even occassional episodes of STNG that didn't stink on ice. None of those shows would have survived on Network TV but they were all quite successful.

That trend is actually increasing I think, more and more the quality shows tend to not be on the Big networks prime time.
Yes, they still do produce some good shows. No argument there, but shows that take some chances or appeal to a niche audience, whether sci-fi or what have you are really hitting their stride on cable networks now.

It's a shame that the Sci-Fi network seems to be bucking that trend but pro wrestling has always been a ratings winner on cable. I think what is really hurting that network isn't the odd wrestling program or two... it's the dearth of quality shows. No Farscape, no Stargate SG-1, no BSG... they don't really have a flagship show to hang their hat on and the network seems to be drifting along.

Anyway, thats my long winded and boring two cents on the matter. I'm pleased that Chuck survived the chopping block and I'm sorry that some good shows didn't.

Have heart. Somtimes competing networks will pick up a cancelled show.

Then there is still hope for BJ & The Bear or C.H.O.M.P.S. to make a comeback!!!!!!!!
