new to the game
It seemed that a lot of the guides in that section were for sertin character configs. I was hoping that there are some general guides out there. Thanks
One very good resource is the wiki - www.paragonwiki.com
Also, don't be afraid to ask specific questions here.
There is also a Player Guides forum, with indexes - might be good for you.
Search tip: Use -"re: " to see just main topics, not pages of replies. <-This really helps with this board's search engine.
Also, the GUI has a bug right now, and tries to send help channel help to /help - which now brings up the Help menu - to talk in the Help Channel, type /hc.
Also, before using the help channel - Go Menu > Options > General(default) Tab > Chat - and make sure to have it set to Show enemy chat (Broadcast and Privite, there are two options to enable) before using /hc since the help channel is server wide and cross faction, and last I checked the game defualts to hiding tells and broadcast chat from the enemy. There is one about local chat, but leave that alone because I know that defaults to showing the other factions chat.

Oh here is a helpful cut and paste from Memphis Bill that explains the tricks to using our search feature. I'd save it to your notepad that way you can refer to it if you ever want to try searching for any particular subject in the future.

a tip on searching.
1. Click on "Search" up at the top of the forum.
2. On the left, under "Forum(s) to search," select "Suggestions and ideas."
3. On the right, Keyword Search Terms. Try the following, exactly as typed:
+vehicle -"re: "
This will search for anything with the string "vehicle" in the title. The -re: portion of it removes replies, so you'll see the root of every thread that comes up, letting you see just how many threads there are on this. (The last helps for other subjects, as well.)
Be sure to put the space between the colon and last quote.
4. Click the "In subject" radio button. This is a search, not a cute blonde in a bikini. Here, you want to ignore the body.
5. Leave Username Search blank.
6. Date range, Newer Than, change the 1 to a 3, and the time to Months.
7. Result format doesn't matter. Click on "Submit."

First of all, here's Zombie_Man's Guide to Guides to get you started. A lot of useful info and links in there that will help you sort through what you need.
Also, check out List of Global Chat Channels. Using these channels can really help you find teams for the specific server and type of teaming you want.
If you're playing heroside, you could also check out my Map to the Fortune Teller which is not only a good guide to get to that mission but also will help you build up a solid contact base for your future career as a hero.
On villainside you may want to take a look at my Mayhem 101 which will walk you through how to successfully run a Mayhem mission every time.
Welcome to the game! Good luck!

Just give our fellow forumites a little time to read your post here and I'm certain you'll have several links to check out. Some of them have guides you can go to in their signatures.
You can check out the info provided in this thread.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
The Player's Guide to the Cities, which is kind of like a manual, but better.

Thank you everyone for the help. I have a lot of reading to do now

The tutorial missions are very good and give you a good grasp of everything you need to know in order to get playing. Read everything. Take your time. It will really help with the basics of the mechanics.
When you get the chance go to the University in Steel Canyon or Cap au Diable and do the mission arc there for info on crafting.
When you are ready to deal with the Markets, talk to the Wentworths or Black Market reps near their respective market places.
Use /hc to access the [Help] channel to ask players questions in game.
There is a lot of information out there.
I find it a lot more fulfilling to learn as you go and enjoy the experience of finding new things as they arise.
Ask players on your team questions.
If you aren't sure what to do, hang back and follow the teams lead.
We have been known to be a very helpful and polite community. Pretty much anywhere you are in the game you will be able to find people that are willing to help you.
That doesn't mean asking them for loot, etc. It means asking questions.
But there is a lot to be said for exploring some on your own and learning your own angle on the game.
Welcome to the City/Isles ... and good luck out there!
We love to hear ourselves talk! Ask us anything! I remember discovering that the tram has two different doors- the one you come out (on the side) and the one you go into (in the middle). No matter what newb trick you think you've discovered, chances are one of us beat you to it.
I'm going to limit myself to two pieces of unsolicited advice:
1. The "standard model" fights don't happen in this game. One of ANY character should be a match for three even-con minions. Debuffs and buffs are far more powerful than healing. You don't "need a tank" or "need a healer"- grab any five players and unless you get some perfect storm of mismatches, you should be fine.
2. Pool powers and prereqs. If you want Flight (or superspeed or whatever) you can get that at 14, but you need another power from the pool (Flying, or Speed, or whatever they're called. I don't even remember.) You can pick the first two powers off the bat, you need one of the first two to get the third, and you need two of the first three to get the fourth.
2a. Stamina. This is a pool power -the last pool power- in Fitness. Chances are you will like having it a lot because it brings your endurance back much faster. The earliest you can get it is level 20; the latest I would recommend is level 24. The traditional path is either Swift or Hurdle (dealer's choice- I like Swift) followed by Health (you get HP back around 50% faster) followed by Stamina. MANY people build for "Stamina by level 20" but I often find that there are a couple of powers in the teens I want even more than Stamina, so it gets pushed back to 22 or occasionally 24. Experienced, skilled players can do without Stamina sometimes, but I don't recommend that. I certainly don't play without it.
Mini-guides: Force Field Defenders, Blasters, Market Self-Defense, Frankenslotting.
So you think you're a hero, huh.
@Boltcutter in game.
I'm looking for a new players guide to this ga,e. I just started playing the other day, comming over from WoW. I tried to use the search function, but didn't find what I was looking for. I was just wondering if someone could point me in the direction of a guide of sorts. Thanks
