Just about everything in the game has been inspired from something "famous".

My intent was, and this is stated in my arc description, to be an hommage to this classic SF story. There is no use of any names / locations / processes which could belong in the movie, or the book written for it afterwards. I can't even say my idea of using an existing story as inspiration to be original, since it's been done countless times before in and out of the MA system.

NO.....dude/dudette's got waaaaay too much time on his/her hands.
Haven't tried it yet Stale but i'll make a point to run it next time I log in.

I loved that Arc, btw.

Thanks again.
I appreciate the dozens of great comments and critiques I've received, but it's especially nice when they're from people you know.
I must admit I think yours is still on my To Do list since I worked til midnight last night (Exchange server crash at work, a half hour before quitting time of course). But I'll get to it!

Someone's just being an attention-seeking :auses:: not-nice-person. Pretty much EVERYTHING in in this game is an "homage" to something; States himself is a "tribute' to Captain America, at least in his general look and attitude. (Yes, I know States doesn't use a shield X-p )
We have pop-culture references out the proverbial wazoo (Raise your hand if you've rescued "L. Jenkins" !) The enemy mobs are tributes to villains of the Golden Age of Comicdom (Dr. Vahz is an excellent example, as are the Fifth Collumn)
As for the poster's other observation...
In the United States, the Copyright Act defines "derivative work" in 17 U.S.C. § 101:
A derivative work is a work based upon one or more preexisting works, such as a translation, musical arrangement, dramatization, fictionalization, motion picture version, sound recording, art reproduction, abridgment, condensation, or any other form in which a work may be recast, transformed, or adapted. A work consisting of editorial revisions, annotations, elaborations, or other modifications which, as a whole, represent an original work of authorship, is a derivative work.
I think this is more of a gray area. If you named all the characters after Fantastic Voyage characters, etc., then I could see where you might be flirting with disaster, or at least nerfing of your arc. However, in a game where an entire power set is- essentially- a tribute including everything but the sound effect *snikt !*, it would be hard indeed to condemn anyone who clearly states "This is a tribute to a creative work I admire."
We, on the whole, are comic book geeks, pop-culture children, sci-fi/ fantasy nerds; [u]We not only LIKE this stuff, we EXPECT it from each other. [u]. When you "show some love" for a icon of Science Fiction, you're not poaching his work, you're just acknowledging our collective roots, and maybe introducing him to a new generation.
Ain't nothin' wrong with that
This is my favorite MArc!!! I posted my opinion over there as well. Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me, and he chose you as his target.
Seems like you have a fair amount of buzz going over your arc, Stale. Now I just have to figure out how to do this for mine.

You're safe, unless the arc is removed. Let the devs worry about that, you don't have to.
I have an arc that's a complete parody of Super Mario Brothers. I got one "complaint" that it was a "ripoff" of SMB.... well.... DUH, that was the point. And that complaint sits on the arc forever until I think three of them build up. Then a dev looks at the arc. If there is no problem, the complaints are cleared. If there is a problem, the arc is unpublished or deleted.
Either way, I wouldn't worry about anything. Let the devs be the cops, and don't worry until you hear from them. This is just someone trying to be their own authority. I find it quite silly.
Stalemate,
There a number of people who troll these forums with the only intent of causing problems. They might search for "hot button" topics( 'healer' comes to mind anyone? ), or they might check every forum on these boards every day. They really don't care what the topic is, or who you are, the're only goal is to make you mad. They want to see you have a melt down. The'll claim that your level of language is lacking( I've had that one once), that you're IQ is too low to fully comprehend game mechanics, or that way of thinking is partially flawed. It's a game to them, and a sick one at that.
For the most part, they are very good at what they do; which is piss people off. The best defense against them is simply to ignore them. Never argue with them( I've made that mistake too many times), and always use the ignore poster button.
As for your Arc Stalemate, I loved it.

You're cool Stale...no worries. And anything inspired by another means nothing. now if it was based on...then maybe. Inspired simply means you were walking down the street saw leaf blow by and write Romeo and Juliett.

I agree with what everyone's been saying, that it should be fine. 7 more years til it's public domain anyway (I think). But if you want to be absolutely sure, send a petition requesting a review of your arc to see the arc is in violation of the EULA in any way whatsoever and a clarification of the "Parodies and derivative works are not allowed." statement. Then you can return with this information and tell where troll boy can stick it.
If somebody you're arguing with goes off the deep end, don't follow.

I need some unbiased opinions about an issue I have: https://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat...=0#Post13488066
I thought my arc was safe from violating any MA rules, but it appears others see it differently.
BTW, I don't think I know this player, so doubt it's some sort of personal retribution happening there.
