Neck is sore, my knees are bruised, I have a mark on my chest/shoulder area from my seatbelt, and it hurts to blink, but otherwise...just depressed and mad at myself.

I almost injured our carpooler. He wasn't wearing a seat belt (idiot) and the reason for this he said was "Well, I thought I was riding with a safe driver".
He says this after the accident, when my aunt had come to ride to the rescue. My aunt who had never heard me swear, promptly heard me scream this at wayward carpooler:
"Don't you dare say a f**king word about driving! Not ONE F**KING WORD!"
"Well, I didn't mean it..."
"I don't f**king give a god damn rat's [censored] about what you f**king mean! DON'T SAY A DAMN WORD!"
You guys know I'm usually pretty happy and easygoing, but damn. Talk about hitting the exact wrong button at the exact wrong time.

And Viv, don't forget to replace the seat belts too. The belt fabric is designed to stretch in an accident so they are not as "hard" against you. They will be all stretched out and, God forbid, if you get in another crash, you will REALLY be bruised by the belt.

An accident is an accident, or it should be nothing more than that. From what you say, you did all the right things, except for that carpooler. If this isn't a warning to him, I'm not sure what is.
I remember an accident where a thunderbird hit the back of a minivan I was in. I did not wear my seatbelt, and I was 14 at the time.
I slid forward from the impact and became trapped in a kneeling position between the first bench seat and driver side front seat. My grandpa behind me suffered some facial bruising. Fortunately, after 10 minutes of feeling around, I found the release latch. I popped it and wiggled my legs free. We had to climb out the front passenger door because the crushing impact warped the body. No other doors would open. My grandpa had to be extracted from the car by cutting the top off the van. This happened years ago, and he's fine.
I never stopped wearing my seat belt since that day.
