What would you say are the Phalanx's theme songs?

Point of order - BaB is one of the "Surviving Eight" (a bit of a misnomer considering that Ms. Liberty and several other heroes also survived the War) but is he really a card carrying member of the Phalanx? I've always assumed he was an independent since the Regulators more or less dissolved and he retired.

Positron - _She Blinded Me With Science!_, Thomas Dolby

Justin Sinclair - _South City Midnight Lady_, The Doobie Brothers

He does currently work with the Phalanx.

The thing about the Surviving Eight I've always found funny is that there are in fact, at least 9. Vanessa DeVore was a member of Alpha Team, and did survive the assault.

She gets glossed over though, cause she's a villain.

[/ QUOTE ]

That was when she discovered that she could consume the souls of her followers to increase her power, correct?

One of the biggest tragedies in the game, IMO. And yes, there is a theme song for Vanessa, and it's NOT based on circuses.

And yet another theme for Synapse, especially when he's being a bit emo.

"City of Heroes. April 27, 2004 - August 31, 2012. Obliterated not with a weapon of mass destruction, not by an all-powerful supervillain... but by a cold-hearted and cowardly corporate suck-up."

I don't think anyone knew that Vanessa had helped fight against the Rikti at the time. You discover that in the 45-50 Carnie Arc ... and I don't believe the Alpha Team knew she was "helping" them ... though I'm not sure that you could really call it "help" given that she was devouring the souls of her "soldiers" to give herself energy for the battle ... she seemed to basically help them coordinate more effectively and be fearless... which isn't necessarily a good thing for an individual's survival.

You can't go wrong with Alan Parsons instrumental tracks.

In the Lap of the Gods (Statesman)

Return to Tunguska (Positron)

Hyper-Gamma-Spaces (Citadel)

Where's the Walrus? (Manticore)

Fall of the House of Usher Part V - Pavane (Sister Psyche)

Sirius (Back Alley Brawler)

Apollo (Luminary)

Ace of Swords (Valkyrie)

I knew I liked you for a reason... I was actually toying with "Apollo" for Positron. Either that, "One Day to Fly", or "I Robot".

PS - *totally snarky grin* Of course, what with all the flak flying around these days, would making "Eye in the Sky" the Phalanx theme song go over well?

... I'm SO not going there. No no no.

I went with the Tunguska track for Posi because of all the speculation on an "atomic" explosion causing the damage (and Posi is radiation-powered), as well as Luminary being more space-oriented for the Apollo track.

The other tracks tend to conform to the character 'themes', although it was a tossup as to who would get the Sirius track, BaB or Manticore.

To each his own, C_L. It was also sorely tempting to do a Phalanx video to Devo's "We're Through Being Cool." I may, however, make that the official Longbow video.

For the Phalanx.

If you prefer instrumentals you might check into Tangerine Dream, they did some good music for the Legend and The Keep soundtracks. Trans-Siberian Orchestra also has some good music that isn't just Christmas music.

TanDream is GREAT for instrumental themes, huge catalog (if a bit new-age-y during the last few years).

For example... this is how I would score Manticore and Sister Psyche's "downtime". The track is the "beach" credits scene from the Micheal Mann film "Thief" which starred James Caan, also scored by Tangerine Dream.

I dunno. I look at Synapse and I think of Man O War's cover of "Flight of the Bumblebee"

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

For BABs, if he started fighting crime in the late 70s/early 80s, that means he spent his childhood growing up in the age of soul funk and motown. Which means he was definitely listening to some Temptations as he was cracking skulls. And I think Ball of Confusion was plenty relevant during his heyday.

I totally forgot about that performance. Damn it, I almost wish I didn't already have Synapse's video partly done.

This is totally showing my age, I know, but the moment I read your post, I remembered watching "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" on TV. I might have to go back and see if I can track that down, give it a listen, and see what strikes for BAB.

Soul Train, baby. Don't settle for anything less than the original. I'll bet you can watch it on the web someplace. *heh*

Accept no substitutes!

*Edit*

In fact, I'm going to nominate Aretha Franklin _Rock Steady_ for BABs.
