Which Expansion Should I Buy?
You will have access to villains with your old account. They are one and the same now.
Buy the latest, architect edition, you get access to all the aspects of the CoX world plus you get to choose between the Cyborg Pack or the Magic Pack and all the cool stuff that entails. By choosing the latest one out there you ensure yourself of having the latest build on disk so you have a software backup that doesnt entails hours of patching to get it up to date.
Buy Architect Edition. I got it for 19.99 at best buy and it came with a free month.

City of Heroes and City of Villains were merged about a year ago. Just sign in and viola you're just like the guy who bought the Good and Evil Edition.
Just so you know:
Expansions: There's only one, with one more coming.
COV was an "expansion" to COH - and access is now given to both sides with any active account. Just reactivating will let you in.
Going Rogue is the upcoming one.
Now, as far as add ons? We have "editions" and "packs."
Edition: Includes a month of gametime.
-Good vs Evil - The original way to get "both sides in one." Jump jet, Pocket D VIP pass, Pocket D teleporter, two costumes.
-Mac edition - usable with a PC, yes. Valkyrie sets are the big draw here, with the Mission Teleporter.
-COH Collectors Edition - out of print, but if you can find one... adds a month if you don't have one. Prestige Power Slide, Cape of the Four Winds, VIP badge.
-COV Collectors Edition - out of print, as well. Arachnos cape and emblem.
And of course, the "plain old" COH/COV boxes.
"Packs" don't include game time. If there's a choice between a pack and an edition, go with the edition - they're typically a better value ($10 for the pack, $20 for the edition... which gives you a free month, or $15 of play, so you're paying $20 for what would otherwise cost $25.)
Wedding pack - Mostly female costumes, one male tux, a few emotes and... I think I'm forgetting something.
Cyborg pack - Cyborg options, Combat Auras, Self destruct power, robot dance.
GVE pack - Same goodies as Good vs Evil without the month.
I forget what the other's called, might be a mac "pack" - again, Mac edition stuff without the month, usable on a PC.
Magic pack - many costume options, costume change emotes, tarot card power that can buff teammates.
Any edition can get you access to CoV.
Are you a costume buff or are you looking for 'useful' minor powers? Each 'box edition' comes with it's own set of costume pieces, emotes and minor power. Every character will get these bonuses.
The 'Good Vs Evil' edition, which you may still be able to find in stores comes with, in my mind at least, with the best minor powers in the game, the Jump Pack and the Pocket D Teleporter. The PDT does just that, bamfs you from wherever to the Tiki Lounge in Pocket D which now has a Tailor for costume changes. Since Pocket D has 4 exits on the hero side and three on the villain side, it can be a useful shortcut for getting around. The Jump Pack when activated gives you an extended vertical jump for 30 seconds. Great in some zones when you don't want to find the nearest pedestrian stairs when confronted with a 60 ft wall. It'll also boost your flight speed for those 30 seconds and it has a relatively quick recharge.
The 'Mac' edition comes with a Mission Teleporter that will get you to your selected mission but it has a long recharge, an hour I think. You don't need a Mac to use this, this was simply the edition that first had Mac support.
The 'Architect' edition comes with a way to get either the Cyborg or Magic Super Booster Pack. The Cyborg pack comes with Self Destruct which blows you up to do damage to critters around you. But it forces you to rez at a hospital or self rez powers (I think), teammates can't target you once you go BOOM. The Magic pack comes with a 20 minute duration, 'Deck of Many Things' style buff you can cast on others once a minute. The effect is random and one does do minor damage so the target is given a choice to reject receiving the buff before they know what it is.
Lastly there is the 'Game Card' (not time card). It comes with a jet pack that lasts 30 days of real time of the account. Every character will have it but if you make a new character on day 29, they will only have it for a day. This didn't come with any unique costume pieces.
For costumes, simply follow the above links to ParagonWiki, they will either have examples of the costumes or links to pages with pictures of them. That said the 'Mac' edition does come with two different bird wings that you can use right away on your costume.

Tempus unum hominem manet
The various packs and stuff are fun.
Each edition comes with a month of play, and all are (as I recall) $20 bucks so youpay five dollars for the ten dollar goodie pack that edition comes with.
If you are going to just get one, however, I would go with the Good Vs. Evil pack - it's powers are both the most useful and frequently up in my experience. The Jump Jet power has a 2-to-2.5 minute recharge, is up for 30 seconds and lets you continually jump up without going down while it's one. Great for pairing with superspeed and low-levels when you don't have or don't want to use a temp travel power for getting over a high wall or such. The Pocket D porter is nice because it takes you to Pocket D (successor to the old dance club Paragon Dance Party if you remember that) which connects to three zones red-side and four blue-side, plus now has a tailor in the room you appear in when you teleport there.
Second choice would be magic pack, because the fortune telling power does some very nice buffs.
Third would be the cyborg pack, because going "BOOM" is fun.

Negaduck: I see you found the crumb. I knew you'd never notice the huge flag.
I played COH a long time ago, just COH with no expansions. I started a new trial account and decided I want to play again on my original account. I also want to get an expansion pack, but just one. Which expansion pack should I buy? I definitely want access to villians, but beyond that I'm not sure what the differences are.
