I'm new to the game but the Cargo Ship actually looked cool to me. That said, while I didn't see the glowy while you were playing, I could hear it when you were mid-ship. I feel there's a chance might have spawned inside something since some maps have been pulled from MA due to that. If it weren't for the Defeat All (which should never be a required objective in an MA...) I'd say attempt it again. In fact, I may ty it out of curiousity later tonight.

Yeah, Zamuel's right, you went past the glowie, three times, in fact. However, I never actually saw it on screen, so it could very well have been behind one of those large containers.

That's sort of a problem we have with the MA, in that we have very little control over where anything is placed, other than "back", "front", "middle"... which doesn't tell us much, since it's hard to tell where the three sections are on some maps... and other maps ignore it altogether. >_<

Anyhow, looking forward to the next review! =^_^=b

Perhaps doing this in the form of a video diary is a bad idea because it's obvious you were tremendously distracted... or have vision and hearing problems.

5:36 Glowie becomes audible as you are on the other side of the wall from it.

5:43 You can see the glowie flashing in the background but partially hidden.

5:53 Glowie visible for several seconds right in the middle of the screen.

6:06 You jump straight at the glowie and the sound becomes audible again, then for some reason just as you are arcing down and would land right in front of it, you do a 180 and go chasing more Crey.

14:52 You are ten feet away from it. Right there! In front of those two big white looking containers. You jump directly over it and the sound becomes as loud as any glowie ever gets. But you just pass it by and head to the next room.

You think this mission made you frustrated? Imagine being the person who wrote it and being able to both see and hear the glowie multiple times while the person doing the review complains about how terrible the mission is and that they can't find anything to click.

If you want to run it again let me know and I'll have the glowie surrounded by mobs of crey waving their arms over their heads and yelling "Over Here!!!"

But I did expand on one piece of dialogue to let other people know they would be facing Crey and didn't have to defeat any of them if they didn't want to.

And now I'm off to rate your mission a 2 because I can't find the button that says "Yes I will accept the mission"

Please don't do any more of my arcs. Or anybody elses for that matter unless you have a seeing eye dog sitting by your side.

Don't count your weasels before they pop dink!

Ok now you are being petty. Sorry that I couldnt see the very tiny mission objective (I watched the vid and that thing is tiny!). Maybe if you made it a bit larger?

I spent a good amount of time trying to find that thing, and I never saw it.

Sorry if I offended you. *shrug* If anyone here is not happy with the way I did this just say so and I wont bother to review your arc. Simple as that eh?

I dont HAVE to review your stuff. And go ahead and rate mine a two out of spite. Go right ahead. I think its a really petty thing to do, but hey, its your dime.

The point is that you rated my arc a 2 because you couldn't find a glowie that was right in the middle of the screen. You could have tried looking harder or reset the mission (since it was the first) to see if it was a bug. Instead you judged it and lowered it's overall rating based on you not actually paying attention to the mission at all.

I wouldn't give your arc a bad review out of spite but I believe if you are going to do reviews you should actually pay attention to the arc instead of running it like it's a newspaper mission.

The object is a standard filing cabinet. It's obviously not that tiny since I was able to see it in your video which only took up perhaps a 3x5 inch section of my screen.

Saying that it's tiny and that you spent time trying to find it but couldn't is an obvious attempt to cover up for the fact that you gave an entire arc a bad rating just because you weren't paying attention in the first mission.

Sorry about the venom but I am quite pissed off right now. You seriously didn't even try. You seemed to just assume that it was a kill all then gave up when killing all didn't solve it. I wouldn't have cared about the 2 star rating if it was because you didn't like my sense of humor or choice of enemies. But instead it was because you weren't paying attention to what you were doing.

*sigh* Forget it. I wont bother to do the videos.

Sorry for offending you Mandu.'

Keep this in mind though: You KNEW what to look for. I didn't know it was a filing cabinet. I knew NOTHING. I just knew I had to find something.

Regardless, I wont bother doing this again. Have a nice day Mandu.

Yeah, don't review my arc please. I'm ok with criticism (it's part of my RL job) but if you aren't gonna pay attention to the arc itself, then please count me out. Thank you.

I'm only ladylike when compared to my sister.

OK, I'm sensing alot of frustration and anger on both sides here, but Stomphoof, alot of people like the idea of video reviews. Right now, you're offering something unique, something that no one else is offering right now. I'd hate to see that go just because of 1 bad experience

Now, Mandu, I also understand why you're upset. Any reviewer (including myself) doesn't like to see their Arc, which they've probably spent alot of time and effort into making, be quit on the first mission and given a low rating. It's happened to a couple of my Arc, and I know how that feels, but don't take it all out on Stomphoof. He could have looked over the last room, decided the glowie wasn't there, and quit the Arc right there. Instead, he went back through the entire ship to find your objective, so I can understand him quitting out of frustration

However, instead of killing this entire thing off, how about this: a new standard of reviewing.

Now, Stomphoof, I know it's your Thread, your Reviews, and you have the final decision on this, but hear me out: Instead of quitting your Video Reviews, how about implementing a "2-Strike Rule"?

Let's say you have an Arc like the one you just did. You can't find a required mission objective. Rather than quit and rate it low because you couldn't complete it, put the "2 Strike Rule" into effect. Quit the Arc, then restart it. The AE System isn't perfect, and sometimes the required mission objectives are simply placed in difficult to find locations. Run through the first mission again, and if you still can't find the required objectives, THEN quit. But rather than give the Arc a low score, send a private message to the author and explain what happened. Move the author's Arc to the bottom of your current list, giving him/her time to run through their own Arc to see if there's anything they can do to fix the hard-to-find objective.

Now, the "2 Strike Rule" would only appy to the 1st or 2nd missions (again, up to Stomphoof). I can understand, if you're in the last mission of a 5-mission Arc, that this rule could be annoying, having to run through the entire Arc again. However, if you've gotten that far in a 5 mission Arc, you've also seen alot of what the author's created, and while you won't be as informed as, say, someone who's completed the Arc, you at least have enough information to make a reasonably competent score.

I know both Mandu and Stomphoof are angry, but can't we all just get along?

Well as long as people are bailing from the queue...I might as well slip my 3 part epic in here.

The Lost Choir. A 3 part epic tale of God and the Beyond, The Lost Choir explores religion both in the real world and in the world of City of Heroes. ID's 123675, 136959, and 141011.

While this is a good idea I am going to wait to see how other people feel.

So far Aisynia feels I will not pay attention to the arc, and Mirror doesn't want me to stop because its new and unique.

I am still leaning towards not bothering anymore because I dont want to offend people with my opinions.

I think you may want to watch the video before you slip your massive arc in here. You may find me "unattentive" as a few people do.

I did indeed watch the video, and I am not concerned. I don't use many maps that are hard to find glowies on, and if you due ragequit, so be it. All three have gotten enough plays already that a low rating really wont effect them that badly.

But mostly I really want to see my arcs reviewed video-style, even if it is a bad review.

One more thing: Not a single one of these arcs contains a defeat all.

But... that's ALWAYS going to happen

Look, when critiquing ANYTHING, there is going to be a frank exchange of viewpoints between the person doing the review and the person being reviewed. Part of being a good critic is highlighting the "good" aspects of a piece of work (in this instance, the parts you liked about a person's Arc), but being brave enough to point out the "bad" aspects of a piece of work (in this instance, the parts you DIDN'T like about a person's Arc). You shouldn't worry about offending people with your opinions; that's part of the critiquing process. It helps the reviewer become a better critic, and it helps the reviewee improve their work.

I think TV Tropes said it best when it comes to this issue.

It's up to you, like I said before, but at least try to give it a few more shots before quitting the whole thing. Your next review might go alot better

The nice thing about Video Reviews is, I can see exactly how you came to the final score you did

I know this was a bad experience but I think the 2 strike rule would work well and I'm gonna enjoy watching a video of someone playing my arc and seeing what they have to say, even if they don't like it. So please don't quit.

Posted

With the imperfections of the MA, I say that a 2 Strike rule is almost a requirement. The video review will really help the creator AND people watching. For instance, your difficulty in finding the glowy clues me in that future authors should try to give a heads up that the glowy "might be hidden in a file cabinet", "is probably in a box" or some other similar thing to help the player. You did a regular review of my arc but I got a review before yours that helped me make the final mission more engaging and thus you probably enjoyed it more than if you played the older version. These video reviews are very valid ways of helping people improve the arc experience. This one review is just a hiccup. Mandu might want to mention the file cabinet in editting his arc while you might possibly want to attempt it again but only do recorded videos for the later missions and just add a text disclaimer to the first video that you found the objective but it was rather small. It's up to you obviously.

Ok, I stopped reading when Stomphoof decided he was going to stop...

My request Stomp... Please don't. I watched your video, and I really would love to see my arc up in someone's video, and personally, while I have 1 Find quest, I don't use annoying maps, I don't have any defeat all missions. The most annoying part of my arc is a 30 minute timed mission... which isn't that hard because it has 3 rescues and a boss...

So please Stomp, if you review any others, please review mine, I'd be honored, even if you give it a bad review... It still got noticed, and through you, I might get more viewers who saw something they might like in it.

So yeah, don't give up, your idea is too unique to just disperse after 1 attempt and some anger over a little distraction, and a hard to find glowie... I did see it on the screen, just to give Mandu his due, but just because I saw it while YOU played, doesn't mean I would see it if say...I played through...

So yeah... Stick in there, and don't give up. Your opinion is your own, and you are going to offend at least someone with it. I know that for a fact
