Legend of hornthraw castle (open rp)
"I really don't know too much about dragons. Although the ones around here are well, more dragon like." Adam tried to explain his way of thinking, while he continued to have his eyes locked onto the woman who'd fallen from the tree, hopping to get another peek at her legs.
The robed woman sat up from her place on the ground and pulled her hood closer over her face, and her robe skirts back over her lower torso.
"You know I wouldn't have gotten stuck if you hadn't been so rude to me. So really it is all your fault. It's also your fault that my cover has been blown. Had you not been so ready to try and pump me for information I would have been able to stay hidden with graceful easy. No you had to be barbaric and play upon my temper!
It's not exactly proper to greet someone by placing a blade to their neck, and you wonder why humans get such a bad reputation! What ever happened to being polite, and giving introduction to one another? I am a lady and I will have nothing more but to be treated like one.
For another thing, I'm not a coward just because I don't feel like telling you every little thing you want to hear. I'm not your fairy god mother and I'm certainly not your little helper!" By the time She'd finished she was standing up a few inches away from the man's face, but still far enough away to stay hidden. Her fist were clutched, and she was quivering slightly. One could only assume by the way she was yelling that her face must have been red with anger. Either way now that she was out in the opened she didn't seem to feel the need to hold anything back.
"You go girl!" Adam splirted out. They could only tell that the woman's head had turned to face him by the change in the positioning in the hood on her head. Even though he couldn't see her eyes he could feel the heated glare she was giving him from under that hood.

He shrugged unconcernedly in the face of her tirade.
"Whatever, girl," he said, leaning on his axe. "I've been to enough crazy dimensions to know that bein' careful is more important than bein' polite. I see some weird chick spyin' on another group o' weirdos; I know there's somethin' goin' on. Just makes sense to get a drop on the solo weirdo rather than walkin' inta the group."
He kept the slightly amused smirk on his face the entire time, wholly nonplussed by her scorn. And as for humanity's "reputation".... well, he really couldn't care LESS about that.
"Oh don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. Just what are the odds that two beings from other worlds happen to appear in the middle of nowhere at the same time and know each other. Then add the Professional Soldier."
He looks over as the figure fell out of the tree. "Another being falling out of the trees. All this and nothing is attracting us all to the same spot? Perhaps I should say this in story format."
"Alright one lovely woman whose is more then she appears and more powerful then one would expect" motions to Sarah. "A Warrior type with a very big gun... and some bird hover thingy. Pax I bet your the logical thinking type the "BRAINS" of what ever group your in."
Takes another breath "There the comic relief singing fellow that be me. Traditionally in stories this guy has a lot of tricks up his or her sleeve. Lets see that leaves the reluctant Hero and an Axe swinging Barbarian..."

"Correction we got the Axe swinging fellow that leaves... “Looks at Adam.
"My name well that does depend see I haven't said it yet. Would you believe my name is Fried Tomson? Oh wait how about Nazzral? Tarzel? Hmm Lazarus Silverleaf sounds good too. I have used many names but Laz what I go by for now."
[ QUOTE ]
"Pax, you know as well as I do there's only one superhero on the island - and that it's not me."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax didn't even skip a beat in replying, "We also remember seeing you take a fireball to the back without so much as a scratch. Most people would consider that fairly superpowered, at least on the Earth we came from."
[ QUOTE ]
Although the ones around here are well, more dragon like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax gave a quiet chuckle at that one. "In our experience, that puts you in the minority. Every single one of the ones we've met so far have been like her", Pax commented with a casual gesture at Sarah. "We've yet to meet one that fits the more traditional human idea of a dragon. Well, western dragon at least. We met one that was fairly close to a Chinese dragon once. Or is that Japanese, we can never remember which is which."
[ QUOTE ]
"You go girl!" Adam splirted out.
[/ QUOTE ]
"As we told the bard here, a moment's thought before you speak will save you a lot of trouble in the future", Pax told him in a slightly exasperated tone. Inwardly she wondered why he hadn't tried hitting on her yet - he seemed eager enough with all of the other females they'd run across so far.
[ QUOTE ]
"Just what are the odds that two beings from other worlds happen to appear in the middle of nowhere at the same time and know each other."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax just grinned at him, resisting the urge to wag a finger in a 'tut-tut' sort of fashion. "Actually, when we're involved? Surprisingly high. We seem to be drawn toward significant events or people we know, so when a place and time has both? We're practically gauranteed to pop up at some point. But don't let that stop you, it's a perfectly good theory for most other people."
[ QUOTE ]
"Pax I bet your the logical thinking type the "BRAINS" of what ever group your in."
[/ QUOTE ]
Pax gave him an almost dumbfounded look before bursting into wild laughter, such that she almost fell right over from it. "...not really, no...", she finally managed, after calming down a bit.

"Okay, I guess you got a point." Sarah retorted a bit sheepishly to the peacebringer, one hand reaching out the help her back up, the other in her neck below the long hair. Its palm was soon back out and upturned though, "But on the island, nearly everyone but the griffins and water dragons can do that. So..."
"Okay, okay, I get it." she stopped when Pax just gave her 'the look', telling the group, "And what do you mean 'something' is attracting people to this spot? I'd say it's called noise. Besides, I was already here with Suze."
She motioned to Zuzana with a finger, the Tsaiv raising a pair of metal fingers in return; a gesture of 'I got this covered', still not taking her eyes off the new arrivals, "I was just scared to go into that town was all. And this here's Ralf."
The hovering drone she'd indicated with a hand spread its flaps and slats a moment, then set them back down, as if to wave hello or something.
"He's my term project." the Tornado elaborated with a proud smile. A moment later, her expression grew thoughtful, however, "...though it looks like two of him are missing. Ralf, where's the rest of you...?"

The robed woman turned her attention back to the axe holding brute.
"G-girl? I'm old enough to be the grandma of the first woman born in your family. You better be glad I don't keep grudges. Other wise you might not have the pleasure of insulting me in such a way." she snapped at the man.
"As we told the bard here, a moment's thought before you speak will save you a lot of trouble in the future", Pax told him in a slightly exasperated tone.
"Wait, are you feeling left out Pax? I'm not picky if that's what you think." Adam had already reconized the tone in her voice meant as soon as he heard it.
Then he turned to the bard. "You said your name is Laz? I guess that's better than no name. You know there are others who manage to keep a single name over the years. I'm curious as to why elves never manage to do the same?" Adam attempted to start some friendly conversation.
"That's because most of them think their name too good for your ears. Elves can be real pricks most of their lives. This one here is one of the most laid back I've seen, a real work of art to say the least. Even he might feel his name is too good to be spoken by you or any one else here." The robed woman growled over at Adam. She didn't seem very fond of elves.

"Yeah, yeah," he said, waving the threat off. "Fine, don't get yer knickers in a twist, grandma. Geez, you'd think I'd just spit on yer dog or somethin'. Are all yer type such delicate little flowers that 'girl' is the height of insults?"
He chuckled as he stowed the axe on his back.

"Looks like a fairly standard hovering drone to us", Pax said, obviously unimpressed. "Though we do have to wonder, why did you name it Ralf? And what do you mean about it being your term project?"
[ QUOTE ]
"Wait, are you feeling left out Pax? I'm not picky if that's what you think."

Pax didn't reply, but the small energy bolt she sent in his direction likely spoke for itself. It wasn't aimed directly at him and nor was it big enough to hurt even if it did, but it'd get her point across.

"Obviously you hang around the wrong kind of elves, then", Pax commented, chuckling a little. "Remind us to introduce you to Anlaar at some point." The fact that the elf in question and here/now were lightyears and possibly eons apart didn't seem to occur to her, nor would it likely bother her much if it did.

Sarah had been about to answer Pax, but when the Kheldian's attention directed itself toward the newcomers as well, she thought better of it. Still, as the humanoid spoke, the Tornado worked her head and right wing out form under her bag, setting the monstrosity on the ground with a crouch in order to unzip one of the larger side pockets.
Her intent to search became moot the next moment, however, something invisible bumping into her from behind, the start causing her eyes to snap open and wings to the like tight. It didn't last long though, Sarah putting two and two together almost right away.
"Aha." she remarked quietly, reaching out a hand to confirm the unseen drone was there, which contact indeed did tell. The sixth decloaked beside it at about that point, then faded away once more demonstratively before reappearing and remaining visible. The Tornado nodded to it, her voice still hushed as to not disturb the others with a sidebar monologue while she watched what was happening with the unidentified two, "Yeah, I got it. Hold on."
Zuzana meanwhile had had enough, and was getting rather bored with the man and woman imposing their 'I am so mysterious and obviously want something from you, but I'm not going to just ask you because I'm so mysterious' presence upon them and one another...despite the conversation (if it could be called that) obviously not getting anywhere.
"Enough with the obnoxious prattle." she thus declared, though more with cold neutrality than any sort of real annoyance, "If this goes on, nothing will go anywhere. You two: what are your identities and why have you sought us out...?"

"You two: what are your identities and why have you sought us out...?"
[/ QUOTE ]
"Name's Slagg," the man said, looking over at Zuzana. "Eddie Slagg. And I didn't 'seek out' anybody. S'my job to kill things that need killin'. Demons, monsters.... whatever. Bosses tell me there's somethin' here that needs put down, so they drop me off. Not the first time."
He leaned back against a tree, taking out a cigarette and lighting it.
"Heard you guys talkin', headed over this way and saw the frail spyin' from a tree. In my experience, people spyin' generally have more information than people who aren't. So, figured I'd find out what she knew and get some basic info on what kinda place this is. The bosses are a little lax on that kinda thing."
The robed figure was obviously trying to keep from going into a mindless rage at this point. Now it seemed that she was getting it from two directions now. Her pride was being hurt a bit more than she could take. "You people really do like working on my nerves don't you? I might be old but I don't care for the title grandmother." The woman huffed and allowed her hood to fall back on her shoulders. Her magniffacent blue eyes were flaring with an angry passion, as they darted from the axe whielder to Nadda. Her pale silver white skin glimmered in the sun light. Beautiful silver hair flowed gracefully from her brow to her waist. Two bright red stripes of hair curled over either side of her face, and traveled down her round checks until they curled under right above her bust line.
Her majestic almost child like features could leave any man in awe, and any woman even couldn't help but take a second glance. One of those features where her ears, a set of red tipped fox ears on the top of her head, that poked though her glossy hair.

"Now, that is a woman!" As soon as Adam said it he quickly placed a hand over his hand. The woman didn't seem too bothered by the comment though. Instead she grinned slightly.
"Now as for you, I don't recall having your title, so there really is no reason for me to give you mine." She continued on to Nadda almost as if she'd never heard a think come from Adam's mouth. Which was both releaving and strangely hurtful.
Slagg's words were more than enough to put Sarah on edge, the elfin bard having given her a god idea of just how dragons were seen on this world. She was sure he'd come for her - as was Ralf, the collective intelligence within the aerodrones quickly commanding a protective perimeter about the worried-looking Tornado, cycloptics fixed upon the smoker.
Even the fox-tailed woman's magnificence couldn't take the unease from Sarah's mind, but though it enamored the Tornado, it left the Tsaiv cold, Zuzana stoically interplacing herself between Slagg and the dragon. Her words, however, quickly dispersed the effect on Sarah as well.
"Yeah there is." she insisted grumpily, "You were spying on us, which is..."
"Fair." the Esertosian interrupted, metal fingers held back toward the dragon in a gesture to stay her words, "She is correct, Miss Jovi."
"But..." the Tornado found herself confused, "Her spying isn't...?"
"It would were she good at it." Zuzana answered matter-of-factly, "Now, I think it best if we departed from this potentially hazardous location."
Sarah only nodded quietly, a concerned eye giving Slagg a momentary glance as the Tornado picked her bag back up...

"Of course, they wouldn't tell you who exactly, we suppose", Pax said in an exasperated sort of tone. "No, that would be too logical. And for the record, we've been accused of being demons more than once. Monsters too, come to think of it. Doesn't mean we're either."
[ QUOTE ]
I might be old but I don't care for the title grandmother.
[/ QUOTE ]
"Hmm. Well, you can't have it both ways. You're either old or you're not", Pax commented, seemingly amused by the woman's apparently short temper. "...still, at least you're not a catgirl. Foxgirls are slightly less prolific, last we checked. And less annoying, usually." she placed particular emphasis on 'usually', as though she wasn't entirely sure she was right about that one anymore. "And you might want to just tell her, before she gets mad and pulls out that oversized gun of hers", she added almost as an afterthought.
[ QUOTE ]
"But..." the Tornado found herself confused, "Her spying isn't...?"

"Incidentally, if we remember correctly we were spying on you too, the first time we met. Maybe you just attract creepy people or something."

"More than you know." the Tornado remarked to Pax with a sheepish grin, thinking just to the example of her 'husband'; the very person she'd mentioned to the Kheldian earlier.
Of course, he was probably the least of it, what with the mad scientists, littles, fairies, rockers, mutants, rulers of one-thing-or-another, and a whole lot of other generally 'weird people' in her life. Truth be told though, only one of them she was actually afraid of...the rest she was mostly afraid for for a variety of reasons, not the least of which was stirring up all sorts of trouble.
"You want to come with?" she added, securing the bag against her back once more. Zuzana shot a glare, but did not voice her opinion...

Slagg rolled his eyes in the manner of someone who's heard the same thing more times than he cares to remember.
"Well, obviously if yer behavin' yerselves, then we wouldn't have a problem, would we?"
He took a long drag on his cigarette.
"And I can't help it if the bosses ain't particularly helpful. Just how most powered freaks are. Seems the more power they got, the less they feel they owe to us 'mere mortals'."

"Well haven't you heard Names have powers so most of us use fake names. Then there the whole language thing not all the elfin sounds translate. It is just easier to have a fake name. As for keeping my life hidden well I haven't reveled any of it so I'm basically follow the standard just with a twist."
He looked to Sarah and put her in the Brains and Beauty and put Pax as the being that's more then meets the eye. A slight wonder at what Pax had up the sleeve.
Then he looked at the Fox tailed Robed woman and figures this is the part in the story where Fate falls on the reluctant hero.
"I need a drink" with that he headed into the tavern. He spent most of his life avoiding Fate and he be damned if he gets caught up on an adventure
Ooc: if i have to type this in one more time and have it erased I'm going to be very upset, and might possibly damage my computer in a fit of rage. So if I ever just stop posting you'll know what happened.
Ic: "Hmp, I would be one of those freaks, thank you. For the record I'm not watching from a little crystal ball in some secret lair. I was just waiting for the right time to revile myself. I do all my own work, and this is what I have to deal with, an over confident Military buff, a lazy entities lackey who seems to have a proublem with everything I do, and a bard that runs away at the slightest sign of a challange. It's no wonder the higher ups don't bother to come to these places.
ugh, again, I'm sorry. If you must know my name, I'm called Mirravin, or if you rather not deal with being formal, I'd like you to call me Miv." Mirravin huffed in annoyance.
The she looked from where Laz had gone over to Nadda and Sarah. It looked as if everyone was attempting to run away from the little group that had formed. She couldn't let that happen after waiting so long for the group to find one another.
*So you are just going to run away? What happened to a bard's love for the open road, and traveling with those he thinks he can get a good song from? You can't tell me you aren't itching to write a song that will be sung long past your own life? Has the elf lost his spunk?* Mirravin sent her thoughts to Laz hoping to at lest get him riled up enough against her to come back to spite her.
"Ok, little Miss Mirravin, while I'm flatter I've inherited a stalker, I would like to know why I am being stalked. That shouldn't be too much for you to answer." Adam walked up closer to Mirravin as he spoke.
"You are Adam Rayon, correct?" Mirravin answered with another question.
"Yeah, that's me. What are you getting at?" Adam wasn't quite sure where this was going, and not so sure he wanted to know anymore.
"Adam, you are aware of the war going on right now aren't you?" Mirravin gave yet another question.
"Yeah, everyone knows about the fight that's going on between us, and those demon things that keep popping out of hornthraw. Those things are winning, which is why most folks don't even bother with coming up to ground level. The only reason this place is safe is because it's surrounded by the forest, and not even the demons from hornthraw are crazy enough to try and go though it. Just tell me what that has to do with you spying on me." Adam's tone was more serious than anyone there had ever heard him be.
"You are, you are the true heir to hornthraw castle. I think you already knew that. So I really don't have to explain why I'm here. As you said, your people are losing the war, and that's why they need you more than ever. It's time for you to stop running away from this, before there's no where to run away to, Adam." Mirravin answered gruffly.
"I can't do that. I'm not going to be someone's show piece. Go find some one else to play war with." Adam told her in a hushed voice, while looking Mirravin dead in the eyes.
"That castle responds to you, Adam, you have an obligation to your people to at lest try and gain control of it." Mirravin looked as if she might be about to lose her temper again.
"They didn't want my help before, Don't see a reason to give it now. It's not really my problem anymore." Adam snapped and turned away from her.
"Oh, so you're just going to let millions of people die? You won't be able to run forever Adam. If this keeps up there won't be any more people to save, and there won't be any were left to run, because it will all be gone!" Mirravin had officially lost her temper, and was now charging after Adam. She looked as if she would wring his neck if she actually got a hold of him.

He mumbles a bit and then walks back out of the tavern. It was true the Bard nature wanted to follow the story. His fingers slid in his black hair he been playing this role to long it's becoming a part of him.
It was meant to be a means to survive moving from place to place a bard is always welcomed in an Inn. True Food and sleeping arrangements weren't the best but he always had food and shelter.
True he could live in the wild just fine. His eyes looked to the forest with a hint of fear. The animals he could handle it was the other elves that scare him. More to the point it was Fate that scares him. "Seems Fate has ensnared me at last" he said softly to himself.

He looked at Mirravin and nodded indeed the story was going as he feared. The Reluctant Hero is told his destiny.
The 'overconfident military buff' couldn't help but smile on the inside as things devolved, diverting just about all attention away from her oh-so-stereotypical self and her Tornado friend - exactly as she'd planned.
She took the opportunity to head for Sarah and make the two of them (and Ralf, of course) scarce, which the dragon of course didn't like one bit. The Tsaiv, however, quickly managed to convince her otherwise.
"I know you do not like it, but you have to." she whispered to the Tornado as they walked, "If this Slagg man was sent after you for what you committed, I don't have doubt he will try to execute you. We need to get you away."
Sarah nodded. She still didn't like it, but she saw the logic.
"Do not worry about them." Zuzana added when she caught the dragon looking back with concerned eyes, "I have seen such before. Many times, in the barracks. They will not seriously harm one another. Trust in me."
The Tornado nodded again as the two left the clearing, headed again into the woodwork proper. They hoped they'd managed to do so without anyone taking notice...

"Demons", Pax sighed quietly, mostly to herself. "Why is it we always seem to end up fighting demons. Really, would it be so hard to find something else to fight against?" Whoever that last question was directed at, it most likely wasn't anyone in the group. More likely she was asking the universe in general what she'd done to get stuck with demons all the time.

Then there the whole language thing not all the elfin sounds translate.

Pax spotted them leaving, but chose to remain silent on the matter. After all, if they wanted to leave then they were fully entitled to do so. Besides, she'd wager they wouldn't be too hard to find later if they turned out to be needed. The dragon after all did kinda stand out, even in her smaller more humanoid form. Thus nor did she at present choose to follow them, deciding that if there was a castle full of demons on the loose then it would probably pay to at least learn what the thing looked like and where it was so that she could avoid it. Or attack it, as necessary.

Mirravin smiled slightly when the bard came back into view. He tactics seem to have worked quite well. He smile faded however when she looked back at the look on Adam's face, and over at Nadda and the dragon who were still attempting to leave.
"I'll grant the two of you protection is you stay with us, and help us with our cause." she called over to them. At lest from what she'd gathered the only reason they were leaving was a fear of being hunted.
Then she looked over at Pax who seemed to be having a small conflict with herself. "They aren't exactly demons, the locals call the such because there isn't a real name for them. They are dark creatures who come in all shapes and sizes, and are all deadly and fearsome creatures. Thus they were all dubed demons." Mirravin tried to comfort her, but she didn't think this was very comforting news to anyone.
"At any rate when I get you all to gather properly I need to make a proposal." Mirravin continued.
Adam was scilent, he was too bussy thinking to notice anyone else. He'd spent all his life running away from the issue Mirravin brought to him, but he couldn't denigh that she was right.
((Mirravin, you do realize you're basically addressing Zuzana as 'Sarge' when speaking as the narrator there, right? I just wanna make sure that this is known: that's a rank, not a name. ))
'Gathering everyone properly' would probably be a greater challenge than the fox-tailed woman thought, for Zuzana and the Tornado did not heed her call. It seemed there was more to things than she believed, which may have made it a good idea to find out what - and since Pax seemed to know at least the dragon probably made her the best choice of who to do so...

((Hello there, if it's not to late to join, I think I'll hop in))
They were following him. He knew they were. They were everywhere, teasing him by letting him get this far, waiting for him to feel safe before they struck.
A small boy, could be no more than the age of ten, ran through the forest, constantly checking behind him in fear. What could be seen of the tattered remains of his clothes were obviously worn down and in extremely poor condition. His black hair was long and ragged, looking like it hadn't been cut in years, and the twigs and leaves stuck inside it didn't help the look. If you caught a glance of his eyes from underneath his hair, they were a dull blue, and his face was streaked with tears. He was extremely skinny, but not in the healthy way. He looked starved, and his ribs were easily visible underneath his rags.
The boy looked behind him again and saw the trees rustle. He screamed loudly and doubled his efforts to run anywhere, anywhere away from where he was. He looked forward again in time to see a fallen log in his way. Too late to stop now, he tripped on it and went soaring forwards, smashing into the ground as his knee cut open. The blood started to trickle out as he lay on the ground crying.
His spirit finally lost, he sat up hugged his knees to his chest, burying his head in his chest. He sobbed and cried, not caring how loud he was. Whenever a branch broke or the leaves in a tree rustled, he looked up both fearfully and with hope. The tears continued to run as he sat there. If someone were to listen to him closely, they would hear snatches of mumblings, something about 'Come out, Mommy...'
(( Not at all, doodaa. Nice to have you back on the forums with us, try to give a little warning before disappearing this time hmm?

"Close enough as to make no difference, and still annoying", Pax answered, probably more irritated by the fact than frightened. After all, when one finds themselves combatting demons practically all the time, it does start to lose its shock value. "Anyway, if you want to 'get us all to gather properly' then we would suggest we follow them", she continued, gesturing at the departing dragon and Tsaiv. "Since we doubt they're going to turn around just because you ask-", she cut off, turning to look around at a noise she thought she heard - just in time to hear the thump of someone tripping over and collapsing.
"Is someone else out there?", she called, again lifting off the ground and flying off in that direction, energy trailing behind her as it always did with peacebringers. It didn't take long for her to come upon the source of the noise, a young and rather bedraggled child. "The hell happened to you, kid?", she asked as she landed at the edge of the small clearing created by the fallen tree he'd presumably tripped over, speaking in the concerned tone of someone who wants to help.

[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WAIT ONE SECOND!
[Admin] Emperor Marcus Cole: WHAT IS A SEAGULL DOING ON MY THRONE!?!?
Sarah only smirked at Adam's comment, telling him wryly, "Too bad. Because at least where I come from, this is what dragons look like."
With that she let him be, turning back to the others, "Pax, you know as well as I do there's only one superhero on the island - and that it's not me."
"And you..." she gave an inverse nod to the elfin bard as she dug through her jacket's inner pockets on a quest for something, "You wanna see something outrageous? I'll show you outrageous. Where'd that thing go? Ralf!"
Her shout may have seemed random, but only for the next few moments. On command, a quartet of machines emerged from the surrounding trees; the very same sort that the stranger had encountered. Assuming a staggered diamond formation, the four glided smoothly into the clearing, coming to a hover around the Tornado like some strange manner of pilot fish.
Of course, exactly as these things generally went, before the dragon could remark anything in regard to them, a certain woman yelped out in peril at the edge of the clearing, drawing her and the drones' attention. Now she finally got what Zuzana had been staring at...or at least she thought she did.
"Aha." the Nadpráporèík but commented disinterestedly, though her interest quickly returned when the supposed mugger released the damsel in distress. That certainly wasn't expected...
