Option to manually set travel speed cap

Short form: add a slider to the options that allows players to set their own maximum travel speed cap.

Long form: the other day I was invited onto a full team that included one kinetic hero. As we progressed through our missions he was speed boosting everyone diligently until someone complained that they couldn't handle the extra travel speed. So that member received none of the power bonus for the rest of the missions.

I can't imagine it would be too hard to add a slider option to the options menu to allow players to individually set their own travel speed caps (not greater than the game's global cap value). That way anyone uncomfortable with super high speed gameplay can slow themselves down to a comfortable level, without having to give up any other simultaneous effects from the boosting power.

To support this option it might also be useful for the game to tell the player when they're at their chosen travel cap. Perhaps by using the words 'Travel Cap' like it were a status effect like 'Held' or 'Immobilized'.

With this kind of an option, kinetic players would be free to speed boost without (or with less) fear of causing grief.

/unsigned. I don't see a problem, therefore I don't think anything needs to be fixed.

I think it has been suggested a few times. It would be nice to have a slider.

I've suggested this before. I've supported this before. I'll always support this. It may not be considered a "problem" by some, but adding the extra option hurts those people no more than the current situation does, so their lack of support falls on deaf ears.

Please, do this SOON TM!

The magnitude of Speed Boost's speed enhancement is not only a benefit, it's also a balancing factor for the other benefits of Speed Boost.

So they're not likely to add something that would allow you to reduce the 'downside' while still getting the full Recharge and Recovery boosts.

Can you show any proof of this, or are you just pulling tidbits from your um...hammer space? Citations for broad, sweeping comments claiming insights into the devs' balance decisions are sometimes helpful.

Thanks.

Sooo... The downside of having increased attack rate and endurance recovery is having your computer freeze and crash because you're moving too fast?

That's not how it works, Tripp.

I would support this, because I have to refrain from using Siphon speed in a lot of caves, especially on large teams, and that really hurts my recharge.

?Buy it for me.

Though now that I've upgraded my RAM I don't really get speed crash anymore. In fact I've started making superspeeders, recently! =-3

Doesn't change the fact that many people have computer issues with it. So which would be cheaper? Each and every person buying a new computer or upgrading the one they have to a minimum standard ABOVE The System Requirements of the game, OR The Devs spending a week or two on the Speed Scale for players who don't want to crash?

Unless you've got -deeeeeeeeeeeeep- pockets, Munki, your argument is rather pointless. =-3

How many people do you think have this issue? (also, I ran CoV on a minimum specs PC for a long time and I never had problems with speed crashing) I think most people that dislike SB really only dislike it due to the running into walls and such. I think the people who crash out do to SB and Superspeed is very very small.

I think enough people complain about it that I don't really see the profit in continuing to argue with them over it.

And anyway, come on. How realistic is not being able to walk slower?

When the game was made it was made binary. You move forward at X speed or you don't move. You can adjust your speed by turning on/off powers or getting buffs, but you can't have your cake and eat it too with the current system.

Not saying I agree with it - its just the way that it is.

I think there is a group of people out there that would want a "Walk" toggle 10x more than a speed cap slider.

Welcome to the Suggestions and Ideas forum. Here, we talk about how the game is now, and ways we'd like to change it. Seriously, we know how it was when it was made. That's why there's a suggestion here to change it.

Your post doesn't address the merits (or drawbacks) of the suggestion. It just sort of wallows in its own air of assumed helplessness.

A walk toggle, to be quite frank, would fall under a different suggestion.

A speed cap just sounds like a pain, if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, the idea has merit, but there are some people who only want Speed Boost at certain times, like during outdoor maps, and don't want it while indoors. These people will be needing to go back and forth, changing their settings time and time again... Which almost seems like an exploit, doesn't it? Adjusting how much of a buff you want when, and all that? I know it's certainly not, it just has that kind of vibe.

I stand by just wanting an option to disable buffs with a click.

Wow, this certainly does sound familiar

Who would have guessed - 4 months later, that they same two people - mogura and me - would have almost identical posts about this same topic?

You're very passionate about how much you want this change. Thats respectable - but the youtube video I linked last time we had this post still applies in all your responses in this post.

On topic
This problem should be easily resolved by just allowing an accept team only buff option. It should be togglable via the user interface options menu. This way, external team buffs during raids (Hamidon and Rikti) can be accepted, but if you are in AP in a costume contest, you can turn off external team buffs so you aren't disrupted.

The run speed boost is part of the power. If you don't want it, then ask whoever's using SB not to use it on you. Simple as that. I don't really think the devs need to spend time on adding a sliding run-speed cap. It's not necessarily a bad idea, it's just way, way down the list of important things the devs should spend time working on.
