It was the DE monster but I didn't see it listed.
The DE monsters are unlockable via tickets. If you haven't unlocked them, you won't see them in the DE list.
I'll check again but I thought I unlocked everything already.
Edit: Ok I verified I have everything unlocked.
I think two DE monsters are in plus Kraken.

Try adding a Boss objective, and check the DE group for the Monsters. A lot of options are only available when set as a Boss.
Im fairly sure, incidently, that monsters placed into instnaced missions are scaled back to archvillain level danger, but I could be mistaken.

The DE critter was set as a hostage and it was a monster rank.

I don't think so.
For kicks I made a mission filled with Lord Recluse clones that ended up being Red AV level. I then put in a Quarry Ally. Upon setting him free he proceeded to take on 5 of the clones, spanking them all into the ground before they figured out where I was and killed me.
They were Red, so the AV level may have been messed up but that GM crushed the AVs.
Wasn't the "monster' rank created to replace the AV rank for enemies that don't merit the AV title? Example: the big, non GM, DE Monsters and the in mission Adamaster. Those kinds of enemies.
If anything it should revert down to an EB(I can confirm Adamaster does when soloing anything but invince in the MA) not an AV.
I put both of the available DE Giant Monsters in one of my arcs. They spawn as Giant Monsters on the lowest setting... they are way stronger than an AV.

Monsters are supposed to be pretty equivalent to AVs. The really big DE are labeled Monsters and do not use the purple scaling code in battle, however, they have the HP of a Giant Monster.

I played an arc earlier today and it had a monster class critter in it. Where are these in the critter list?
