Electricity Control

I'm hoping one day an Electricity control set will be available. Browsing through the powers available for each AT, I noticed there is already quite a few powers that could make up such a set.

Tesla Cage, Short Circuit, and Voltaic Sentinel are from Blaster/Defender Electric Blast Set. Electric Fence, Lightning Field, Lightning Clap, and Shocking Grasp are from the Blaster secondary. Electrifying Fences are from the Mu Ancillary Set available to Brutes.

I looked at Fire Control to model this set after. The order and choice selection I feel are very close. I took Shocking Grasp, a hold from Blasters Electricity Manipulation, and made into an AoE Hold, also changing it from High DoT to Minor DoT. The same thing was done with Tesla Cage, also creating an AoE Hold from that power.

To me, it seems like it would be a very functional set. But like I said, the powers here are already powers that exist in the game. If there ever was and Electricity Control set, I'm sure it would be a bit different.

1. Electric Fence (Moderate DoT(Energy), Foe Immobilize, -End)

2. Tesla Cage (Minor DMG(Energy), Foe Hold, -End)

3. Electrifying Fences (Targeted AOE, Minor DoT(Energy), Immobilize, -End)

4. Short Circuit (PBAoE, Moderate DoT(Energy), -End, -Recovery)

5. Lightning Field (Toggle: PBAoE, Minor DoT(Energy), Foe -End

6. Tesla Cages (Minor DMG(Energy), AoE Hold, -End)

7. Shocking Grasps (Minor DoT(Energy), AoE Hold, -End)

8. Lightning Clap (PBAoE, Foe Disorient, Knockback)

9. Voltaic Sentinel (summon sentinel: Ranged)

You... Did notice that you've got 2 AoE Hold powers in this set at tiers 6 and 7 where the standard AoE Hold power of controller sets is at 7...

So Elec gets access to their hold a lot earlier AND gains the ability to stack holds in an AoE making it possible to lockdown the whole area INCLUDING multiple bosses, while OTHER trollers have to drop their AoE hold and then use their Single Target power to choose ONE boss to lockdown fully...?

Just checking...

I know. I wasn't sure what else to put in the 6th power. Maybe some form of another pet, or some type of AoE stun.

I would suggest tesla cages to 7, drop shocking grasps, and add a supercharger (ando from heroes style) buff, that works similar to power sink (i think it is power sink) that increases secondary effects so SC can drain a group properly.

I really want to see electricity control too.

I love the idea for an electric control set, but there are some changes i'd personally like to see with your set.

2AoE holds - not cool/ I'd say change shocking grasps into some sought've slow or ranged end draining power.

Oh and this idea is very personal. How about a unique power for the set (yes a new animation would need to be made) where he drops a bolt of lightning to the ground. Everyone in the targeted area gets KD'd, drained of some endurance, and disoriented.

Now THAT would be cool!

I agree. Telsa Cages should be 7. A power such as Thunder Clap from the Storm Summoning set could go into the 6 slot.

I dunno, if Castle and his minions are going to put together a new set, wouldn't you rather they actually made a new set?

Nope. I want my electical control.

Well, shocking grasp (singular) is melee range... move tesla cages down. Create a... I don't want to call it "stun field," but it's as good a name as any - AOE Knockdown with end drain while anything's in the field.

As for the pet... Sparky's all right for the blasters, but how about a pair of Cap-style Gremlins instead? VS is a very, *very* limited pet.

Electric imps are so full of win.

I would actually wish earth and ice had imp type pets. Ice imps would be cool.

Took your original proposal, and changed it a bit based on my own ideas, and the suggestions of others.

1) Electric Fence - Single target immobilize

2) Tesla Cage - Single target hold

3) Electrifying Fences - AoE immobilize

4) Short Circuit - PBAoE Damage, -Endurance, -Recovery

5) Static Field - 20'Radius PBAoE toggle: -Endurance, -Tohit, -Speed, 30% chance for Sleep

6) Electrostatic Discharge - Location AoE Disorient, Knockdown, self Teleport (Uses Lightning Rod animation/effects)

7) Tesla Field - AoE hold

8) Energy Cascade - AoE Damage Special, End Drain special, Ally +End Special. Deals damage and drains endurance from each target within the radius, for each target within the radius, and restores endurance to any allies near your target. (Technical description; Spawns a pseudo-pet for each foe within the radius. Each pet fires off a pbaoe Damage/End drain/Ally +end power then despawns. Net result is that vs a single target you drain a little end and deal a little damage, but vs multiple targets you deal a fair share of damage and drain a significant amount of end.)

9) Voltaic Construct - Super Sparky/Voltaic Sentinel on steroids. An actual targetable pet akin to other controller tier 9s, can use the Cap Gremlin model people love. Has Charged Brawl, Havoc Punch, Lightning Strike and summons Voltaic Sentinel.

Got rid of the extra aoe hold, added a bit more distinction to the set, and buffed up VS to an actual pet.

I was about to say I didn't know if ESD would "fit," but honestly it looks like an Electric-flavored Stalagmites. Not sure about keeping the teleport part, but having it isn't what I'd call a dealbreaker.

Mostly I just wanted to use Lightning Rod's animation somewhere in the set.

The set's emphasis would be End Drain as a secondary control type, and the end drain of the set is all geared towards melee range so I figured it would make a useful tool for getting into melee range quickly, and negating a fatal alpha strike from it.

It's more of a reverse Wormhole though. Instead of bringing the mobs to you, you take yourself to the mobs.

7) Tesla Field - AoE hold

[/ QUOTE ]

Just for the sake of variety (since there is already a "Tesla" power in the proposed set), how about calling the AOE hold Faraday Cage?

It's not uncommon for single target and aoe variations of the Immobilizes/Holds to have extremely similar names.

e.g.
Crush -> Crushing Field
Gravity Distortion -> Gravity Distortion Field
Dominate -> Total Domination
Confuse -> Mass Confusion

Also, don't Faraday caged Protect you from electrical discharge/fields?

Not that I'm really opposed to using a different name, just that I rather like Nikola Tesla... I avoided adding a Tesla Coil power, because the set already had 2 powers with Tesla in their name.

(Note the name of my Grav/Elec Dominator in my Signature.)

I just thought Faraday Cage sounded cool was all. Plus, I wasn't quite sure what a Faraday cage actually did. Still, if it protects from electrical discharges/fields, then perhaps that would be a power that puts the target in a "only affecting self" status.

And for the record, I am a bit of a Tesla (the scientist, not the band...well I like their music) fan myself, especially since The Prestige.

That animation with a disorient component and we have a winner.

I believe this is perfect for an electric control set. My only issue is the teleporting part of ED. Chances are that it'll miss a few of them, and a controller in melee range of Fake Nemesis is not cool....Not cool at all.

I still think the benefit of getting into melee (Where your secondary control is most effective) quickly, and mitigating a significant portion of the Alpha at the same time (via both Disorient and Knockdown) is worth the risk.

Just like Wormhole it would take some getting used to and require some tactical forethought. (Such as opening with Tesla Field+Cage on boss, or using stealth/recall or summoning a new sparky within range, to take the alpha, like people sometimes do with Singularity.)

I suppose if it came right down to it though, it could lose the TP, I'd just personally be rather disappointed.

I do believe that Zeus' Lightning uses the same animation as Lightning Rod, just blue, so the set I proposed would have exactly that.
