Looking for an artist
I've seen many post to ask for stuff in the past. One of the main things that people tend to respond with, is directing people to other areas to find artists (if noone is interested here).
This all comes from that one thread awhile ago with that guy who was like the hero Question but dressed in red. That detective guy.
I remember when noone was interested, they directed him to other artist commitioning sites. So if noone is interested here, perhaps directing Torroes to those same or similair sites would help?
Know any?
Unless there is someone here who's actually interested, in which case, nevermind my post. Just tryin to help my bud Torroes.

Introductions, Obey,
I'm unaware of any artists who swap art for in-game items as a practice, though some may do/have done it at times.
I know I'll draw you a stick figure for a purple recipe.
Here's a link to a stickied topic at the top of this forum with links to various artists sites. Some may be reasonable enough in cost to consider.

Introductions, Obey,
If I were in a situation to simply pay hard cash for the work, don't you think I would have said so? If I had the resources I would gladly have offered $300 for this project, but I don't. With my current budget the most I could offer would be $25. So, for design and development (because as I said in my original post, all I really have is a general description) how far would I get for $25? From what I've read in the commision listing it would get a laugh in the face.
I went through that listing Dark. I looked at a lot of artists. None of them appeared to be machinist artists, (if i missed one who is I appologize and would you point them out to me please?)
Now, since no one has posted a response indicatiing they are interested in working with me under the terms I previously posted I can pretty well guess that no one is interested. So what do I do? well, I'm gonna try and get $300, so I can actually offer it.
I'm not a fool or a cheap skate. I am truely willing to pay for effort relative to results, if the ability is availible to me. But since it is not, the only thing I can do is ask "Anyone interested in doing this (for free)?" I have done that, no one responded. So I move on to plan B, aquiring the financial resources to say (And not be lieing or bluffing) "I am in need of an artist for the following job [see detail] I am offering $300 for the compleation of this project to my satisifaction"
Thanks for the help Dark.
And Sin, learn to [censored]!
You should probably not say dollars here. Just mention it would be conisderd a low amount.
I think you also might be able to find someone who could do it for cheap. Maybe even 25 dollars since its not just a regular commission but something that'll be in a fan made comic book and that helps a coh bro or sis.
Also, if you can only afford 25 dollars, what about paying 25 dollars per thing, since you mentioned 2. or 25 dollars in 3 installations. Anythings possible but I'd say avoid actually saying the dollars out loud.
And I was just tryin to help ya Torroes since noone at all responded and this was going to the next page.

Torroes, I don't think anyone's jumping on you for doing anything wrong. Heck I think you handled it in the best way possible. I definately understand your circumstance and you've simply offered up options.
Nothin' wrong with that.
I agree, I don't see a ton of people jumping up on this one, but also don't limit your choices more than you need to. Just because someone doesn't have a vehicle/ship design in their portfolio doesn't necessarily mean they can't draw one. I'm not known for drawing vehicles, but I'm currently working on several ship designs for a game.
Give them a shout and let them say 'no'.
Just a thought.

I get what you're saying 8, I just figure if I'm going to directly approach an artist and inquire about a speccific commision piece I should have all my options availible to me. I don't particularly like the "Hey can you do this for me now, and I'll pay in a week" game. Sounds too much like Wimpy from Popeye. "I shall gladly pay you teusday for a hamburger today". Plus the other thing is that this would something different a standard "Draw this" commision. Since I don't aldready have a visual reference to hand the artist, there would be some development involved. Beleive me, if I had something I could hand them and say "I need two images of this from this angle and this angle" it would be different. But I'm a slave to my reality. Hey why are there wombats singing show toons around my bathtub?
As I mentioned in pm, there are a lot of options out there for reasonably cheap rates...$30 or so. The artist list should have a good range of artists if they've been submitted.
Edit: PMed you a link to a very reasonable artist I've gotten a few things from.

+1
Juggertha agreed with the quoted assessment.
alrighty, my project priorities have shifted and the project I originally posted needing an artist for is now a secondary consern.
Of course that means I am now working on another project. This one is large enough, I won't even bother to go for the "Art for trade" route. I'm just gonna straight out ask 2 things:
1) Are you interested in working on a comic?
2) How much would you charge per page, for uncolored Inked illustrations?
Also as a an asside, if you know anyone who might be interested in working on this project, please have them contact me with the above imformation and any other questions they have. I want to keep this off the forums as much I possible can so please contact me directly. I'm also gonna flips through the network listing and contact several of those artists as well and ask about their interest levels in this project.
Hey Torroes Prime,
I know you said you want be contacted personally, rather than on the forums, but I thought a few of these tips would be helpful for everyone too. This isn't so much aimed at Torroes, but at everyone that wants free art.
I would watch the timing of the requests. The art forums aren't as fast moving as some of the other forums. Don't fret if you don't get an interested reply within one or two days. A lot of that has to do with how often artists look at these forums. I don't know about other artists, but I don't look at the CoH forums everyday, frankly I'm lucky if I look at them once a week, and I don't even read all the posts. Sending notes is obviously the better way to go, because I got the one you sent me the day after you sent it, rather than seeing a post a week later. Although, posting on the forums is still a good idea, since another artist (that you may not of thought to contact) could see the post as well.
I know your budget it tight, but everyone's budget is tight, and that's part of the reason people don't want to do things for free. If it weren't for picking up extra hours at work, and a few commissions, I wouldn't be able to buy any x-mas presents. Keep in mind that if an artist does do free work for you, have a lot of patience with them. I don't know how you are to work with, but just in case, don't push deadlines. Real life work and commissions come first, then personal life, and personal art work may even go before free art.
I don't know how many people realize this, but I don't know any artist, through the web, people I went to college with, or real life friends, that are living solely on their art work. Sometimes I think people forget, that while I would love to just be an artist, in this economy, it doesn't pay the bills. We do have real life, mundane, jobs, and even commission art has to be worked around my 50+ hours at a warehouse. I'm not complaining. I've learned to live with this, and it doesn't really bother me. I just feel it needs to be said, but, to be fair, the CoH fandom has been the best and most favorable to artist that I've been a part of.
You already stated that you would like to actually pay for the work, but you don't have the resources. I would definitely let the artist know about your situation. Trades aren't a horrible thing either. I'm just not personally motivated by CoH trades. I have enough friends online, that if I really want something, I can just ask (although they usually get a little bit of fun art in trade, like how I got wings for Rizerax .) I would also try to offer other skills you may have. Do you know about web design? Even if you don't know about web design, do you have contacts for good deals on hosting? Are you a good writer and willing to write a story for them about one of their characters? If you happen to live close to the artist, would you be willing to rake leaves or something like that? You can always ask the artist if they need anything, and they just might need something you can provide, but never thought to offer.
In addition, it's the week of Thanksgiving, and people have a lot on their plate (pun totally intended) traveling, buying x-mas presents, working extra hours to buy x-mas presents, and this is a really busy time of year for nearly every business. If you don't hear anything back, don't worry. I would recommend waiting until after the holidays to ask again. People's schedules will mellow out, and they may be more receptive to doing things for free, since the holiday expenses are behind them.
Good luck!
hey all. I'm looking for an artist to do a small project for me, I've outlined what the project is, below:
I need an artist who is good at drawing mechanicals and ships. I am need of an illustration for a large scale Longbow "Air Cruiser". Since there is nothing in-game quite comparable to this, I can't really supply a screen shot of it though I am looking around the internet for comparable images. I will need 2 images as outlined below:
image 1: a stand-along three-view image of the air-cruiser. (I'm not sure if three-view is proper term so I will describe what I'm looking for). I need an image that shows the air-cruiser from the front right.left with it angled downward so you can see the top side of it.
Image 2: this image's requirements are somewhat more flexible, as I intend to intigrate it into a another image. CHances are that this will need to be a ground level image looking up at the air-cruiser as it passes overhead.
for an example of a finished product of something else that this is for, click here {be warned, this image is quite large.}
Basically replace the images of fergusson with images of the air-cruiser.
general descriptions of the Air-cruiser:
Take a medium sized cruiser, add in a launch deck for Longbow chasers and eagles, and make the entire thing airborn. the main body of the air-cruiser is a double hull design. The outer side of the hulls are lined with alternating howitzer turrets and missile turrets. The primary control deck is situation between the two hulls and is easilly seen due to a large panoramic observation window. Situated on either side of the control deck is a launch deck used for launching Longbow Chasers and eagles.
That about covers the description. If you have any questions please post them.
Payment: I have several options of payment availible to me including trades of infamy/influence and/or rare salvage/recipes in game.
I am also working on what I hope will become a fan-based comic for city of heroes. So I can offer in-comic advertising and/or character cameos as payment.
Well, I guess that about covers everything. So if you're interested, or have anyquestions about it, please post them or drop me a line.
