Here is my drawing of Aggelakis. Improved by suggestions and colored. She came out really well I think. The background... It's a learning experience.

Very cool! Love seeing you take a stab at backgrounds, really completes a picture.

Thanks guys. As for what is happening... All I know is she is drawing an arrow to silently kill... whatever her target is.

I was a lil lost on what was going on, primarily because I read it as if she was about to stab herself with a sword. D: I commend you for taking on a hard to draw angle, it's definitely a tough one. I think there's one very simple thing you could have done to really keep the focus on the character. Desaturate the background and foreground. You also want to watch the spacing inbetween your buildings in the back. It's really funny that the human subconscious wants to keep everything evenly spaced, for me, it's one of my biggest issues, I like symmetry a bit too much :P

good job!

i have a really hard time trying to draw faces at that angle.

what program are you using to color with?

My point is, that at first glance, it's not reading. Because the "bow" is in the foreground and at a an angle that you don't see the rest of it, and its coloration, it doesn't read as a bow. The pose reads as the whole sexy pinup vibe because you don't see the hand reaching for an arrow.

First impressions of artwork vary between a whole 4 to 7 seconds. If I have to look twice, then something isn't working on the piece. Because I work in animation, all you get is that first impression. Silhouettes are one of the most important things that artists, both in comics and animation, need to remember. Blood did a good job at trying to tackle a hard angle, and that's totally commendable in my book.

Those are all good points Sayterra, especially where you said I did commendable work. I will use your background and silhouette information in the future.

Blood... angles like that are difficult for even professionals to get right. The musculature of the neck is difficult to break down, so yeah, your attempt gets the thumbs up in my book, because I know a lot artists terrified to leave their comfort zones.

One thing that's been really... really hard for me is getting critiques from this community. But in most cases, the advice has been really helpful in the long run. One thing that I had (still have sometimes) a hard time with is choosing my position for the character. I got some drawing books that talk about picking the stronger pose over a potentially not as strong pose.

When I see this drawing, I see incredible talent, even more determination then I can muster (I almost never finish my work I'm so lazy someone shoot me now). But it also has some visual things (we can call them things) that are easily fixed over time and experience. For example, a side profile of her face leaning back with her fingers touching a quill from her back with her other arm out front silhouette the bow in moonlight would have shown more than the angle you chose. That's ok, don't lose heart but just keep in mind that you do have more control over the position of your art. And most of all never give up. Even when people talk down to you like this stupid jerk, troll londerwost that just won't freaken shut up...

...

ok i'm shutting up now.

Every artist has a 1000 bad drawings in them that they have to get out. Londer, even if you're not FINISHING a piece, you're still learning from it...

It's true. But I am a lazy artist. Ask scarf or anachro. They both kick my [censored] to try and get me to do more work.
