Along those lines, we had agreed to at least try to set up times to finish anything that was partially completed before our next regular session.

Liberty-Flame (who is logged in the TF even though she wasn't there Tuesday) and I would be available later Friday evening and most of the morning-early afternoon Saturday. Let's see if we can finish Mary off before next Tuesday. Am I correctly assuming we still only have to beat her one more time?

Also, I finally bit the bullet and used Lightson to create a SG called Avengers-of-Justice. I created a few alts for me and my wife (which I was going to do anyway to take advantage of leveling pacts) and invited them to get some prestige going. I don't really envision doing much with the SG for our current toons, however, I would like to have a base with a few teleporters created in time to benefit the "second generation" of toons we roll.

Nope, I believe it reset the whole mish as the mission was never truly completed. I'm actually hoping I'm wrong here. As for time, Friday is good for me, after 5pm EST atleast.

I will be there Friday night at 6:00 CST? Is that correct?

As for a SG base, I am the leader if a SG and My base is tricked out.

Let me know if you guys want to use it.

Heh, turns out I can't follow my own suggestion. If we could push it back to 8pm that would be great if no one is opposed. Also, Liberty is 50/50 at best. Sorry, we are just starting to get pretty busy with Christmas stuff.

So does 8pm work for everyone?

Lets shoot for 8pm eastern time unless that would exclude anyone.

Also, MX we are just finishing the KHTF tonight and if I remember correctly you didn't start that with us--so I don't think you are missing anything

Hey guys, great job finishing the KHTF Friday night. It was great catching up with you again Doc!

For our next several runs, I was thinking we could run a few story arcs. First, we could run the story arc given by Gordon Stacy in Brickstown:

http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat....art=22&vc=1

Its a nice Crey-centric arc, and will eventually allow us to do this story arc:

http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Janet_Kellum

I figure we should just do story arcs for the next few weeks, since things might get busy during the holidays, and plus we need to get a few levels under our belt before we tackle Numina.

Lightson already has the first Gordon Stacy mish queued up and ready to roll.

Let me know if that sounds good or if you have other suggestions.

It was a blast Light, the TF was fun and a bit more challenging in the beginning than I thought it would be but that made it more interesting. If you need an extra hand anytime, give me a shout my scrapper is in the level range of the team.

Been awhile since I advanced the story--here goes nothing:

Issue VIII: Rebuilding, Part I

The story so far: After helping the police isolate a mysterious outbreak, several of Paragon's newest heroes banded together to form the Avengers of Justice. After establishing themselves with a series of impressive victories, the Avengers of Justice are now reeling after one of their own sacrificed himself to save the rest of the team from a deathtrap sprung by their arch-nemesis: Countess Crey.

“ . . . all right Liz, I’ll see you then. Bye.” Bryson Walker had barely finished his phone call when the courier approached him.

“Need you to sign for this, sir.”

“Er, sure, okay. Any idea what it is? I’m not really expecting a package.”

“Sorry, sir, I just make the deliveries. Have a nice day,” the courier paused slightly to read the signature, “Mr. Walker.”

“You too,” Bryson mumbled, more to himself than the courier, as he ripped open the thin package. Inside was a small handwritten note, which simply said: “Bryson we need to meet, you know where. Tonight at midnight–Chad”

Bryson immediately flipped open his cell phone, “Liz? Its Bryson again. I need to cancel our date tonight–something’s come up. I’ll explain later . . .”

At midnight, Lightson found himself standing alone just inside the sewer entrance underneath Atlas Park. “I hate this place,” he said to himself–or so he thought.

“Yeah, but it’s the last place they’ll look for us now, especially after . . .” Doc Midnight trailed off as he recalled the painful memory.

“After what happened to Blind,” Lightson finished. “Good point.” After an awkward silence, Lightson continued, “So where have you been? We’ve been trying to reach you for weeks.”

“Chad Wyric’s cover with Crey has been blown–so Chad Wyric doesn’t exist anymore. I had to go underground. Literally and figuratively. Its best if I stay away from the team for now. Even if I change my costume, they’ve seen how my powers work. If they saw us all together in public, Crey might start to put together some of the common thread’s in our origins. Besides, I’ve got some leads to follow that are best pursued solo.”

“I understand. I’m disappointed, but I understand.”

“So,” Doc Midnight asked in almost a whisper, “is the team going to make it?”

Lightson weighed his answer for what seemed like an eternity. “Well, first we lost Blind. Then you disappeared. Around the same time, we also lost contact with Burnt Sacrifice. I can only assume . . .”

“That Crey got him too,” Doc Midnight added.

Lightson sighed, “Correct. So, yes, morale is low. But we’ve still managed to do some good work. Sister Psyche and Manticore had some missions for us. I think we did well. We earned their respect, at least. I thought Manticore’s information was going to give us a shot at taking down the Countess, but we only got as far as her right hand man, Hopkins, before the trail got cold. Anyway, the core is still strong: me, Liberty, Solar, D, MX . . .”

Doc Midnight interrupted, “That all sounds good, although I feel a ‘but’ coming . . .”

Lightson nodded, “But, the foes we are facing keep getting stronger and stronger. I worry about the firepower we’ve lost, with you and Blind and Burnt. I don’t want to face another situation where we end up losing someone–again–because we are simply outmanned.”

Doc Midnight pulled a dossier out of a satchel on his costume. “Well, that’s where we might be able to help each other. Here, take a look at this,” he said as he handed Lightson the dossier. “Crey is holding two mutants: adventurers known as IC Touch and Ghost Wrath. They were fairly established young heroes that did some good work. Crey eventually became interested in them and captured them. Now they are being held in a research facility very similar to the one that held Mutant X-7 before he escaped; same experimental program. Crey plans on holding these two in a more or less comatose state until they can figure out how their powers work. You know the drill, Crey wants to be able to replicate these powers to create their own super-powered army . . .”

Lightson “knew the drill” all too well indeed. Before he underwent a rather dramatic change of heart, he had assisted Crey in their devious plans. “So IC is a cryokinetic and Ghost . . .”

“Taps into the same netherworld energies that I do. Different applications, but still very potent. Anyway, like I said, I need to fly solo and under the radar for the time being. The research facility has too much security for me to break them out myself. But the Avengers of Justice could pull it off . . .”

“And maybe conclude the rescue with a recruiting pitch?” Lightson concluded.

“Something like that. Anyway, I need to go. Even though they wouldn’t expect us meeting here, Crey is never too far off my trail these days. Keep the dossier . . .”

“It was good seeing you again Doc. Stay safe.”

“You too. And keep an eye out. You never know when you might be seeing me again.” Almost instantly thereafter, Doc Midnight disappeared into the shadows and out of Lightson’s sight.

Lightson immediately issued an emergency alert through his Global Comm.

In moments Solar Tech responded, “Saw the alert, what’s up Lightson?”

“Sorry if I woke you Solar, but we need to assemble the team for something urgent.”

Solar Tech laughed, “Me? Asleep? I was just tinkering around trying to figure out how to squeeze a few more BTU’s out of my battle suit.”

“Is that why you look so old, my friend? Because you never sleep?” Lightson chuckled, “Actually, I’ve got great news–Doc is alive and well. He passed on some info on Crey that we need to put to use immediately.”

TO BE CONTINUED . . .

IX. Issue Nine: Rebuilding, Part II

The story so far: After experiencing a series of tragic setbacks at the hands of Crey, the Avengers of Justice must rebuild their numbers. The first step in the rebuilding effort: a daring rescue operation based on information provided by an old friend.

“ . . . so that’s the plan team,” Lightson concluded, “Questions? Comments?”

“So basically,” Solar Tech quipped, “you want us to illegally break into a laboratory controlled by our arch-nemesis?”

“You forgot,” Mutant X-7 added, “that the lab will likely be crawling with security, and that Crey has a history of being a step ahead of us.”

“Right,” Solar Tech responded, “In that case–I’m in.”

“Yeah, me too,” Mutant X-7 continued, “I know how it feels to be locked in a cage like a lab rat. No one deserves that. Let’s get those guys out of there.”

“D? Liberty?” Lightson asked.

“Officially,” The Directrix answered, “Crey is a legitimate corporation and we have no concrete evidence of their wrongdoing. Accordingly, as an official representative of the Paragon Police Department, I cannot sanction this sort of vigilantism. Unofficially, why else did we don the capes if we can’t right wrongs like this. Let’s bust them out and untangle the red tape later.”

“Well, at least this time the trap we are walking into is in a sterile lab instead of a rancid sewer,” Liberty-Flame said as she exchanged a glance with Lightson, “you know I’m with you Bry . . . Lightson.”

“All right then, its unanimous. Make your preparations, we’ll depart within the hour,” Lightson said.

Later, at the Crey Research Facility:

“Alright, is everyone ready?” Lightson asked. “Remember, we have two objectives. First and foremost we want to rescue those hostages. The secondary objective is to obtain as much evidence and information as possible about this project. We want to keep engagement with Crey at a minimum–technically we’re the lawbreakers here. Best case scenario we get in and out with the two mutants without Crey even knowing . . .”

“Given our track record with ‘being stealthy’ why do I have feeling that the final outcome might be a notch or two below ‘best case scenario’,” Solar Tech added, mostly to himself.

“Well, we’ve still got to give a shot,” The Directrix added, “Much as I hate to admit it, Lightson’s right. We’ve got nothing solid on Crey. As far as the law is concerned the Avengers of Justice are breaking and entering into a legitimate research facility. If any publicity gets out on this, I could lose my job–if I’m not thrown in jail first.”

“I know its true, but if I have to hear one more time that ‘Crey is a legitimate business in the eyes of the law’, I think I’m gonna be sick,” Mutant X-7 interjected, “let’s just get on with it.”

“So be it,” Lightson replied, “Solar . . . work your magic”

“You got it boss,” Solar Tech said with a nod. “Okay, I’m in their system. My battle suit is analyzing Crey’s files . . . . Nothing yet . . . just a sec . . . wait . . . something on ‘Revenant Hero Project’ . . . Got it! This has to be it: I found a file in the Revenant Hero Project folder talking about where Mr. Black and Mr. Blue are receiving their ‘voluntary treatment’. The files make it all sound legitimate–signed waivers and everything–but that’s got to be them. On the top floor . . . right . . . THERE! I found a access point from the roof. Now, let me just shut door Crey’s security system. Done!”

“Great work Solar Tech” The Directrix stated.

“Indeed, now download all the information on this ‘Revenant Hero Project’ to your battle suit and then we’ll head for the roof.” Lightson added.

“On it,” Solar Tech answered, “wait, what’s this? The files are being deleted . . . huh? Aw crap, Crey’s encryption is not quite as archaic as I thought. They know I’m in the system, and they are trying to lock me out. Don’t know how much data I’m going to get . . . give me a moment . . . Blast, no good! And it gets worse–they’ve triangulated our position. They are going to be on us in seconds . . .”

“D, MX, Solar–hold the position here, distract them as long as possible. Liberty, you’re with me on the roof,” Lightson belted out.

Just after Lightson and Liberty-Flame flew off a squad of Crey agents came streaming out of the research facility.

“Remember guys,” The Directrix said, “we want to keep a low profile here. Follow my lead and don’t engage them until its absolutely necessary.”

When the Crey operatives were in earshot, The Directrix continued, “Agents of Crey, I don’t know why you serve this corrupt corporation. Maybe it’s the money, or the prestige, or perhaps they have blackmailed you. Your reasons are your own. But how many of you know what they do in that building, what they REALLY do? How many of you know just how evil your employer truly is . . .”

Meanwhile, on the roof:

“Looks clear so far,” Liberty-Flame stated as she and Lightson landed on the roof.

Just as she finished her statement, Lightson barely noticed two uniformed, helmet clad-figures dressed in blue and yellow streaking towards Liberty-Flame. Lightson had heard of them before, they were the heavy hitters of Countess Crey’s shock troops: Paragon Protectors.

“Liberty! Two o’clock! Head’s up!” Lightson generated a force field around Liberty-Flame just as one of the Protectors slashed at her with claws that extended from his knuckles. The other Paragon Protector flanked her and was blasting away with powerful energy beams. Unfortunately for the Protectors, Lightson’s force field held.

“Our turn,” Liberty-Flame said with a grin. As she spoke, the roof around her began to sizzle and melt. In the next instant, a wave of heat emanated out from her body setting both Protectors ablaze. She then quickly spun around, and pummeled the energy projector with a series of punches. Thinking her unprotected, the clawed Protector raised both hands–preparing to dig both sets of claws into Liberty-Flame’s back.

“Not so fast, my friend . . . ” Lightson said as he blasted the clawed Protector. The Protector flailed his limbs helplessly in the air as the force of the blast threw him from the roof. “Happy landings,” Lightson remarked as the Protector plummeted to the ground. He then assisted Liberty-Flame in defeating the other Protector. Although the battle was long, the energy projector eventually succumbed to the flurry of light-force blasts and super-strong, searing hot punches.

“Looks like you guys have things under control up here,” Solar Tech said as he emerged from the roof access point. The mutant known as IC Touch had one arm wrapped around Solar Tech’s shoulder and was leaning on him for support. IC Touch was obviously conscious, although not completely alert.

“We wrapped up down there, thought we would see if you needed a hand,” The Directrix added, “We’ve freed both hostages . . .”

“Good work–but how did you guys handle Crey’s security so quickly?” Lightson asked.

“D got most of them to surrender. Actually, some of them helped us set these guys free. The ones that weren’t so cooperative either got the char-broiled or bug-zapper treatment–depending on whether they were closer to me or Solar,” Mutant X-7 answered. The unconscious Ghost Wrath was draped over Mutant X-7's shoulders in a fireman’s carry.

“A few unfortunates in the middle got both treatments . . . poor things,” Solar Tech added with a chuckle.

“All the same, let’s get out of here. Reinforcements could be on the way any second, and those two don’t look like they will be up for a fight anytime soon,” Lightson replied . . .

Epilogue: Mission Debrief between Lightson and The Directrix

“So far, not a peep in the press about our rescue operation. Guess Crey has decided not to go public,” The Directrix said.

“Understandably so, considering what could come to light if the press started digging around,” Lightson replied.

“True. Unfortunately, Solar Tech wasn’t able to download any hard evidence against Crey, either. They deleted any incriminating files when they detected him in their system,” The Directrix noted, “and the employees I convinced to turn on Crey were all low to mid level–they don’t know any of Crey’s darker secrets.”

“Well, at least we made it out there with IC and Ghost. What’s the latest with them?” Lightson asked.

“Well, they are both still traumatized. And both are still experiencing some amnesia, so its hard to know how and why Crey targeted them. Under the circumstances, I didn’t want to hit them with the recruiting pitch right away. I think both of them will be fine, eventually,” The Directrix answered.

“That’s good. If they are up to it, I’ll invite them to assist on our next mission. Seeing them in action will give us an idea if they are a good fit for the team or not,” Lightson said, “Speaking of which, have you heard of anything in the PPD that might need looking into?”

“Actually, the mayor of Salamanca is reporting some odd goings on.” The Directrix stated.

“Well then, it looks like we’ve got our next mission,” Lightson responded.

To be continued . . .
