City of Heroes: The Fist and the Light

I'd like to present my first piece of video work.

This was filmed over the last 3 weeks over on Pinnacle. I have some ideas for another video but wanted to see how this one would turn out. Enjoy and please stop by and leave any comments for me on vimeo!

Wow! A huge undertaking for your first one...it turned out very well!

I think some of the early scene cuts were a bit too fast, and some of the credits were tough to read. The worst thing was that I missed all these TF runs!

Very impressive!! Just about impossible to read the red word credits but that's a minor quibble.

I also have reason to believe the notice is hooey. Yeah, they're not dead, they're just... pining for the fjords. PETAA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Alienized Animals) has been notified.

First, thanks for the positive comments. I was a bit nervous about releasing this because I didnt let anyone see anything I was doing until after it was completed. After watching it at least 100 times, I was sure I had seen it too many times to really tell how it looked.

I am thinking about re-rendering the credits. I noticed several errors that I cant believe I missed.

I had an absolute blast making this one and I have alreday gotten a few ideas for my next video.

That was Great! I love the fact that you are moving the camera, that it is always in motion. That to me makes all the differance.

A little Nightwish sure does not hurt either....

That was VERY cool. I loved all the Eden TF footage, I think that's about the best artwork in the game as far as atmosphere.

I will say I'm impressed that you got footage from so many unique maps. It takes a good bit of time and effort to get them, and it turned out looking good in this video.

Outstanding for a first effort! (And kudos for using the new Nightwish stuff... have you heard the orchestral version of "Poet and the Pendulum"?) And cool that you show several locations in the game. There are a few in there that I didn't quite recognize so I'll have to go back and look at them again...

I agree about the credits but if you're using WMM, you tend to be a bit limited in how well you can do them.

Re: wanting to go back and fix it - that's a trait we all share. I go back to my earlier stuff (heck even my LATER stuff) and think, "Could fix that... could fix that... could fix that..."

Niiiice vid, especially for it being your first!Great soundtrack, too! Better than what I hear in a lot of music vids (not just CoH, but any A/VGMV)

The music was beautiful and the whole thing felt like watching a kind of lucid, daydream about CoX. Very, very well done

@Gata_ : No, sadly I was not on summer vacation. I had to work the normal 40 just like any other Joe. All work was mainly done on the weekends, but I would stay up until 2-3am editing.

@Neutra: That is exactly what I was going after. My main goal was to showcase the game in such a way that someone watching it would want to see and experience more themselves. Secondly, I did not, at any cost, want this to be your 'typical' music video. I wanted the footage to work with the music and the music to work with the footage. With a band like Nightwish and a game such as City of heroes, the work was nearly done for me.

While working at starting my next 'film', I am first trying to select the music. I am tempted to go with another Nightwish song but I think I will keep them on the back burner so as not to become repetitious. In the meanwhile, I am also taking a step forward and attempting to teach my self Adobe After Effects CS3. This may delay the next project a bit, but I can assure you I have learned much from this first project and I have set the bar much higher for my next attempt.

Variety in music is always good... I tend to vary between well-known stuff (the SPIDERMAN main theme) and the obscure (how many people here know the computer game CHAOS OVERLORDS?). It helps keep me on my creative toes.

Spent all afternoon with my headphones on listening to tracks and trying to visualize scenes.

The title of the song is The Poet and the Pendulum by Nightwish.

Just wanted to say, my friend finally decided download a trial after I sent him a link to this video. He's since purchased the game and we're currently playing a stalker duo together (he likes being sneaky, and exploring). He looks forard to seeing the many locations you showcased in your movie!

I will say that I have been pulled away on other endeavors but I really want to start looking at my 2nd video. My main problem right now is deciding on a song and a theme.

I am getting some great ideas recently. Just time to put them to use...

So I've now had this video removed from Facebook. I attempted an upload to MySpace, but was denied due to 'copyrighted material'. Facebook is now claiming the same thing but is giving be a chance to counter it.

My question is, even though I used a copyrighted song (technically 2) and changed it is it still deemed copyrighted. Also, is there any chance in hell of getting permission to use the song?

If this is how it is going to be, I'm not sure I want to make a 2nd video since there appears to be nowhere I can post it....

Great music, what is that? Sounds like nightwish.

Some great shots in there, but I think it dragged on too long in order to fit the song. It could have also been improved by giving more connection between the various shots and battle scenes instead of making it a random assortment.

It is Nightwish - the song is "The Poet and the Pendulum" off their newest CD, if memory serves.
