Guide to the Cimeroran Traitors Faction

After messing around a bit in Cimerora, I decided to throw this guide together on the new and very well-designed Cimerora Traitors faction. Note that Issue 12 has not gone live at the time of writing this, and things may change in between here and then.

GENERAL

Traitors showcase the hopefully upcoming Shield set. The shields are probably the most annoying and dangerous thing about the Traitors. These add Magnitude 3 mez protection to hold, immobilize, stun, sleep, and all of the usual crowd, but not to confusion (which makes powers that cause this handy when fighting them). (I am not sure at this time if they resist Fear, could someone clarify this?) However, the shields seem to be a toggle, and will drop if Traitors are held/stunned/whatever though them. This makes getting alpha on Traitors very handy to ending encounters with minimal trouble, as if you land a hold on them before they draw their shields, they are just as mez-susceptible as every other faction.

These shields provide repel and knockback resist as well, enough for bosses to stand right in front of a Tornado without flying away. This is both a blessing and a curse, as knockback won't throw them around as much, but Air Superiority is ineffective on them.

MINIONS

[u]Legionarii[u]: The run-of-the-mill minion of the Traitors, they are armed with a shield (above) and a gladius, AKA broadsword. They possess the slash attack, a highly damaging Shield Bash attack, and a ranged Pilum attack. Not much else to say about these.

[u]Immunes Surgeon[u]: These things are a PAIN. They are essentially attackless empaths, packing heal aura, heal other, ressurect, and clear mind. They should be the first things you take out when fighting Traitors. Important to note is that they do not have shields, unlike all other Traitors, and are susceptible to mezzing.

[u]Immunes Engineer[u]: These are identical to Legionarii, but have an additional firebomb attack that leaves a burn patch for a few seconds. Not really much to say about these either.

LIEUTENANTS

[u]Centurion[u]
The Centurions are similar to the Legionarii. They have gained the Hack attack, and have a variant of Clarity renamed "Shout of Command".

BOSSES

[u]Praefectus Cantorum[u]
Another upgraded Legionarii, these seem to be packing some sort of maneuvers variant. I'm not positive on whether this is actually maneuvers, how big the benefit is, or whether they have other "leadership" type powers. Info here would be great.

ELITE BOSSES

[u]Minotaur[u]: One of the two Mythical Beast enemies, Minotaurs use Battleaxes in addition to unstoppable near death and a "Fetid Howl" cone attack which does 50/50 smashing and toxic damage.

[u]Cyclops[u]: Cyclops use Super Strength attacks, including Knockout blow and Hurl, and also use Unstoppable when near death.

[u]Romulus' Generals[u]: These are essentially Praefectus scaled to elite boss strength.

ARCHVILLAINS

WARNING: Possible spoiler

[u]Romulus(Human)[u]: Romulus is essentially an archvillain Praefectus when you fight him the first time. Nothing special.

[u]Romulus(Nictus)[u]: Romulus is a much tougher customer this time. He possesses many warshade attacks, the normal sword and shield attacks, and hits *extremely* hard. He is assisted by three Nictus Essences that each perform a specific function (see below). As dangerous as Romulus is, he is also the hardest to kill, and thus should be your last target.

[u]Nictus Essence(Left)[u]: The 'healer' essence, this spams a multitarget version of Twilight Grasp and MUST be your first target if you want to beat this encounter in any reasonable amount of time. All Essences use a stunning, damaging attack called Death Throes when killed. This affects every player on the map (it has hit me from clear across the map before), is a high-magnitude stun, and lasts for a considerable amount of time.

[u]Nictus Essence(Middle)[u]: The "blaster" essence, this should be your third target, before Romulus. It does hurt quite a bit and has a lot of area of effect attacks, but arguably less dangerous than the other two essences. All Essences use a stunning, damaging attack called Death Throes when killed. This affects every player on the map (it has hit me from clear across the map before), is a high-magnitude stun, and lasts for a considerable amount of time.

[u]Nictus Essence(Right)[u]: The "summoner" essence, this should be your second target, after the left essence. It acts as a mobile, difficult-to-kill Shadow Cyst, and quickly floods the battle with Unbound Nictus. All Essences use a stunning, damaging attack called Death Throes when killed. This affects every player on the map (it has hit me from clear across the map before), is a high-magnitude stun, and lasts for a considerable amount of time.

THINGS I WANT TO ADD TO THIS GUIDE

<ul type="square"> [*] More in-depth tactics to fighting Traitors[*] More information on the EBs and the Romulus encounter at the end of Time's Arrow[*] More information on the powers used by Traitors
If any of the info here is wrong or missing, please let me know and I'll change it. Thanks!

Whats funny is that this new zone tells me something about the Ouroborus Menders and Temporal Scaling (aka Malfactoring down).

They lied to us.

The Ouro Crystal in the midnight club sends you farther down the timestream then the menders say is possible, you retain your full power and are even "mystically prepped" by the Midnighters to be able to understand the language, etc.

If you kill the final boss without getting the support AVs first he'll rez, just wanted to add that. Also what triggers the healing one's heal? Sometimes it spammed it over and over and other times it'd go for a long time without using it once.

Never knew that, thanks Kailure. And I haven't been able to see any pattern there, so I'm going with 'luck'.

Not much else to say about these.

ELITE BOSSES

[u]Minotaur[u]: One of the two Mythical Beast enemies, Minotaurs use Battleaxes in addition to unstoppable near death and a "Fetid Howl" cone attack which does 50/50 smashing and toxic damage which has a chance (around 20% from what I've seen, I'll test this a little more) to give you an autopower called Disease which is similar to the Vahzilok Wasting Disease. It lops 20 off of your max endurance, something like 25% off of your max health, 0.06% off of your regeneration, and 0.25% off of your recovery. This one is very temporary however (I counted it at ~5 minute duration).

[u]Romulus' Generals[u]: These are essentially Praefectus scaled to elite boss strength.

The Pilgrim's story arc, Part 2

[ QUOTE ]
Carbon Law is the law of Time Travel that restricts how far forward or backward you can actually travel. In Earth years, this comes out to around 5,730 years, give or take 40 or so.

[/ QUOTE ]

So we can go back 57 centuries. Starting at the 21st century, we can go back to the 36th century BC.

Ancient Rome existed from the 9th century BC to the 5th century AD. Regardless of when in that timespan Cimmerora existed, even if it was earlier than "recognized" Ancient Rome, we're well within Carbon Law.

Also, Temporal Scaling only applies when sent back (or forward, like in the Shivan mission of the Pilgrim's arc) to a time that you already existed in.

FYI, I have never seen a Surgeon use Clear Mind. There is a very similar buff visual for Shout of Command, which you might have mistaken for the Surgeon using CM.

The Clarity-like effect of SoC is an AoE. It lasts something like 15-30 seconds.

Cimerorans do not have protection from Fear unless Shout of Command is used (see below).

Immunes Engineers seem to have an AI preference for "squishies". This is hard to quantify, but I repeatedly find them going after Doms, Controllers and the like, even when everything else is focused on something like a Brute. Their description mentions them going after weaknesses in their enemy's armor. This could be purely a matter of perception, but I found it interesting.

I don't notice any Leadership like effect from Praefectus bosses. I do notice that Cimerorans with their shields out seem to have good +defense. This defense seems to be damage typed and not positional, because they appear comparatively easy to hit with Psi damage attacks. Prafectii also use Shout of Command when low on health.

Praefectus bosses seem to lack immobilize protection in their shields, as they can be immobilized with two applications even after their shield is out. It also takes two immobilizes to affect minions and LTs if their shield is out, showing that their version does add immob protection.

Shout of Command is notable for being a PBAoE buff that does not affect its caster. Cimeroran mobs can cross buff one another with it, but they do not affect themselves.

I disagree with your use of "Must."

In fact, I suggest killing Romulus 4 times and running out of Line of Sight when he rezzes.

That sounds like fun. Death Throes is used when he rezzes though? Wasn't aware of that.

Not entirely clear on why you kill him four times though. Are one of the essences used up whenever he drops?

That is a lie,Romulo is the faster to kill.I have run this SF over 10 time.I have see the great different of romulo vs his nictus.True romulos is the hard hitting AV,but he the easies to kill of all 4.The healer nictus don't heal if it don't get dmg, just leave him alone and it won't heal unless he got hit with a AoE.You don't need great amount of debuff or hold to kill Romu.He can be easy to hold and debuff,I have see how a team with 2 rads,2 Dom fail trying to kill/debuff/hold healer first. But when I try in a team with 2 blaster,2 scrapper and just attack Romulo; I was very impress when we kill him 4 time under 5 mint.

KILLING THE 3 NICTUS FIRST IS THE WORST WAY TO DO IT !!

Here is how it all works:

One essence spams a clone of Sunless Mire that buffs Romulus's dmg and tohit based on the number of players hit.

One essence spawns unbound nictus pets like a normal Shadow Cyst Crystal does

One essence spams unique version of Twilight Grasp that has about 70 ft PbAoE range to hit players and about 10 to 15 ft heal radius. It heals itself and allies once and then heals itself a second time for the same value as before. This is a variable heal that heals allies for 278 per player hit with the debuff portion and heals itself for exactly double that amount. The debuff will -11% dmg players for each instance and stacks up to two times. Recharge on this ability is 5 seconds.

Each essence resists all debuffs and controls HEAVILY almost to the point of being immune. Their damage resistance is also much higher than Romulus's. They have the same HP count as Romulus.

Romulus has normal AV resistance and has almost no protection to control effects outside of Purple Triangles. When Romulus dies he will attempt to kill one of his Nictus Essence companions if they are in range. If he hits one the Nictus will die and automatically cast Howling Twilight on the team for a high mag stun and rez Romulus if he is in range.

Separating the Nictus from Romulus is not a good idea since this will hamper his rezzing. However it is a good idea to set Romulus next to a corner of the geometry so that the team can break Line of Sight with the healing nictus and still damage Romulus. Pulling Romulus to the top of the left tower (right in front of the door on the roof) will allow the team to easily do this.

Killing any of the Nictus Essences is not worth the team's time and effort at all when Romulus goes down literally 10 times faster.

He will ressurect himself by killing an essence and using Howling Twilight (Called Death Throes) if one of his essences is in line of sight of him while he is killed. The difficulty of killing the essences means that you do not want to prevent him from rezzing off of them. Essences do not provide experience when killed, making Romulus the preferrable target.

[u]Nictus Essence(Left)[u]: The 'healer' essence, this spams a multitarget version of Twilight Grasp in response to damage. Avoid hitting this one.

I haven't tried this tactic yet, but it is much easier to just kill Romulus repeatedly instead of attacking the essences (that's just been the way I've done it, sorry.) Thanks to Turbo_Ski, Yorukira, and Smurphy.

Also here is the biggest clear sign that this is the way it was intended.

Nictus Essences don't give XP or any kind of reward upon defeat

Romulus will give rewards everytime you kill him.

A few notes:

First, they don't have a "Maneuvers" power. That's called Phalanx Fighting. Each and every Roman Soldier with a shield will contribute 3% defence to this effect, which grants an AoE defence bonus to all nearby Roman soldiers. I'm not positive, but I believe the thing actually stacks outside its "typical" radius of 8' - meaning the guy on the far left of the line is affecting the guy on the far right, but only if the five guys in the middle are also contributing. Again, I'm not certain.

Romans are not resistant to fear; however, Shout of Command does grant fear protection equal to a Tank's mez shield.

The Damage Nictus only has one attack, an autohit AoE damage.

Please note that their Shout of Command is only activated at 50% health.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Very nice, never knew that. And that is what I had it down as originally, though someone mentioned that it had a Sunless Mire clone, and I changed it.
