LiquidX's guide to exclusive stuff

Greetings boys, girls, and beings of indeterminate gender!

I'm LiquidX. Some of you may remember me from such educational films as "101 uses for 5th Column Mekmen: For when you really need a desk" and "Vahzilok Wasting Disease: The silent killer". Now, as anyone who may browse the forums with any amount of regularity may know, one of the more common questions is "How do I get <Insert exclusive item name here>?". In order to facilitate quicker answers, and help clear up some of the confusion that normally results in these posts, I have decided to create this handy guide to limited and exclusive stuff.

Following will list what packages provide exclusive content, as well as what things are included in the packages. Notes as to availability and how to purchase said packages will be included as necessary.

City of Heroes Pre-Order Box
One of four Prestige Powers, which is dependent on where the box was purchased from. Powers are:
Dash
Quick
Rush
Surge

(Note: All four powers are now available as the 12 month Vet Reward)

City of Heroes Collectors DVD Edition
Prestige Power: Slide
Cape of the Four Winds
V.I.P. (Hero side)/Destined One (Villain side) badge
Statesman (Without Cape) Heroclix figure
PvP Mini-Comic

(Note: The CoH CE is no longer in production. If you really want it, you can get it from E-Bay. However, it will most likely be expensive. Also, use caution... Make sure the box is unopened before you purchase it, otherwise the code may have been used.)

Heroes Gear Kit
It had all the goodies from the CoH CE, including the Heroclix figure.

(Note: Was only available for a limited time through the NCSoft online store. It's no longer available, and is unlikely to be brought back since it fulfilled it's original purpouse)

City of Villains Pre-order box
Includes one of four exclusive Arachnos Helms, which was dependant on where it was purchased:
Fortuna (Female Only)
Wolf Spider
Crab Spider
Mu Helmet

(Note: Only one code can be applied per account. Certain codes now give you access to more then one helm, due to complaints that were issued about the helms originally being gender specific. Namely, the Fortuna helm was for females only, and the other three were only for males. This was changed so that the Wolf, Crab, and Mu Helms would be for male and females, and the Fortuna helm was given access to a second helm to compensate for still being female only. Also, the helms are now going to be made available via the Villain Epic AT.)

City of Villains Collectors Edition
Arachnos Chest Symbol
Arachnos Cape
All Seven of the CoH/V Heroclix figures (Statesman W/ Cape, Positron, Manticore, Ghost Widow, Black Scorpion, Captain Mako, and Lord Recluse.)
Limited Edition Statesman CCG card
CoH CCG Demo Deck

(Note: While Non-CE editions of City of Villains only came with one of six, randomly packed CoH/V Heroclix figure, the CoV CE came with all six of them. It was also the only way you could get the seventh figure, Lord Recluse, who was available exclusively through the CE. Also of note is that the Arachnos Chest Symbol in the CoV CE is NOT the same Chest Symbol that's granted via the 30 Month Vet Reward. Finally, the CoV CE is no longer in production. You can probably find it via E-Bay, but previous warnings apply).

City of Villains Valentines Day 2006 buddy code
Hellenic Sandals
Victory Laurel

(Note: For a previous valentines day event, NCSoft gave out buddy codes that would allow friends to try out CoH/V. If the person subscribed using the code, then both the referal and the referee would both be awarded these items. This offer is obviously no longer good, and is only listed for the sake of completion. However, the items in question are now choosable awards for the Valentines Day missions)

City of Heroes/Villains "Good vs. Evil" box
Prestige Power: Jump Jets
Pocket D V.I.P. Badge (Grants access to the Tiki Room)
Pocket D Teleporter power (Allows you to teleport to the Tiki room. Requires you to be level 3 or up to use)
Justice Costume Set
Sinister Costume Set

(Note: Still in production, and can be found just about everywhere.)

City of Heroes/Villains "Good vs. Evil" in-game item pack
Includes the digital items from the Good vs. Evil pack.

(Note: If you already have CoH/V, you can purchase this to get just the digital items from the "Good vs. Evil" box set for $10 from the NCSoft store. However, unlike the box set, the digital items pack does NOT give you access to CoH or CoV.)

Wedding Pack
Tuxedo costume parts for men
Wedding Dress costume parts for females
Four emotes:
Throw Rose Petals
Throw Rice
Throw Confetti
Propose

(Note: Available from the NCSoft store for $10.)

And there you have it, kids. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to star in my next educational film: "How I met your Arch-nemesis".

One correction. the Crab Spider, Wolf Spider and Mu Helmet CAN be used on Females. I use the Crab Spider on my main and She is in fact female.

You are correct. What I was posting was how they were originally labeled as when they were being offered (Which led to the controversy that I stated). I knew some of them had been changed to be usable by both genders, but couldn't remember which one.

*edit*

Fixed with the helm clarification.

Wow! LiquidX is still postin' strong I see. I used to play, then un-subbed, now I am playing again.

Where did I get my Prestige Slide from? I don't think I bought the CE version of CoH, but I do have the PreOrder CoV and DVD CE CoV versions.

Thanks!

Nice post.

Hey LiquidX, still remember Crystal X or Fist of Flames from 2004/2005 ? Just returned recently to COH last year November. Glad to see a familar name again.

Yeah. I probably spend way to much time on the forums.

Well, if you bought the Heroes Gear kit when that was in the store, that'd be one way. (Do you have the V.I.P./Destined Ones badge?)

If not, then I'd say it's from a bug. Otherwise you bought the Heroes Gear Kit or CoH CE without realizing it.

Sounds familiar, yes.

It was also the only way you could get the seventh figure, Lord Recluse, who was available exclusively through the CE.

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you 100% sure about this?

I only ask because I've got 2 LR's and 2 Black Scorpions. I've got two accounts, bought the original non-CE edition of CoV for both, and then at a later point, bought the CE edition to upgrade my main account. So, if that's right, then I should only have 1 LR.

A few ylnotes:

1. Availability -

The way the devs have said things in the past, if you paid extra for something, it will never be given away. If you did not, it may be made available at some point to the playerbase at large.

So, pre-order sprints (as we've seen) and the preorder helmets, which you didn't pay *extra* for, might not be so exclusive later. Collectors edition type items will not.

2. The Hero Gear Kit, as I recall we were told, wasn't just "the exact same" as the COH CE DVD... it *was* actually boxed versions of that.

3. The helmets coming to the VEATs don't look exactly the same 9from what we've seen in the announcement screenshots) as the preorder, especially the Fortunata. (VEAT - flat top, Preorder - round.) Of course, they may not have shown us all the parts, too.

Just for the sake of completeness.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nope. It didn't come in logoized/retail boxes.

What it was, iirc, was that there were leftover goodies and they were packaging up as many full sets as they could and selling those.

I bought one way back when and I believe it was just basically a plain cardboard box with the goodies. I don't believe there was an actual DVD in it though. Not sure on that point.

I remember asking either Cricket or CuppaJo if they were ever planning on making a Villian Gear Kit...

Officially, Lord Recluse was exclusive to the CoV CE.

HOWEVER, (And I actually ment to include this, but forgot) there WERE some production problems that affected some of the CE and Non-CE boxes. For example, several CE Boxes were missing Ghost Widow figures, and there was the occasional report of a Lord Recluse figure turning up in a non-CE boxes.

However, for all intents and purpouses this is a "Bug" in the production, and was not actually intended.

The Heroes Gear Kit came about because of the unique circumstances that came with the CoH Collectors DVD edition. Namely, the CoH CE wasn't released until roughly a full year after the release of City of Heroes proper. So, being nice, they released the Heroes Gear Kit with all the stuff that came in the CoH CE (Clix, Mini Comic, In game items, yada yada) minus the DVD and box for the $20 dollars, so that those who had already bought CoH wouldn't have to pay another $50 dollars just to get the stuff.

Later on, after the initial stuff sold out, they discovered they still had stuff lying around, and did one more run of the Heroes Gear Kit just to get rid of the excess stuff.

That musta been what I got then. Iirc, it just came in a plain cardboard mailer with the stuffs.

I believe it originally came in a plain cardboard mailer, too. (I'm not 100% sure on that, mind you, as I had bought the retail box for the DVD so I didn't need the Heroes Gear Kit). But yeah, the Heroes Gear Kit was simply the "extra" stuff (Code, 30 day free play, ect) minus the Disk and the fancy box.

(QR)

I know it's too late to edit the original post (I've never understood that mechanic to these forums) but a little bit of information about Arachnos Helmets.

--Gamestop's helm wasn't Fortunata, it's Blood Widow. The male helmet that was added due to complaints is just a Wolf Spider helm painted red (which actually inspired me to put together a not-quite-a-Wolf Spider costume for my Dominator when he signed on with Scorpy.) All the preorder helmets are also unique in having set colors that can't be altered.

While the helm is called the Blood Widows, it is frequently seen on the Fortunatas as well as the Blood Widows. They are not exclusive to the BW though.

Some Wolf Spider helms were buggy and gave access to both the Wolf and Crab Spiders.

Ah, thanks. I didn't really pay enough attention to the in-game mobs, I guess; I just thought that the 'proper' name of the item should be mentioned.

Yeah. I'm already looking at stuff I can improve on for a rewrite. (For example, I completly forgot to mention the Art Book that came with the CoV CE.).

I've also discovered a new product that I didn't know existed, which I need to add to the list.

Correction.

There was no Fortunata Helmet given as a Pre-Order helmet. The Blood Widow Helmet (which sometimes appears on Fortunatas) was available for females only (the male version of which is the Mu Helmet). So, Fortuna on your CoV Pre-Order list should be changed to Blood Widow.

Also, the helmet you have listed as Mu Helmet is actually the Mystic Helmet.

Otherwise, well done. /e thumbsup

Edit: You might also want to note that the Buddy Code versions of the Laurel and Sandals (Valentine) have the advantage of being account wide, while the new versions must be earned for each particular character.

Yeah. I'll be honest, I couldn't remember the specific names of anything other then the Crab Spider Helm, so I went with what was listed on ParagonWiki.

*Nods* Noted. I'll try to get an updated version soon.

Might want to mention the Wolf Spider's cape is nearly identical to the CoV CE cape. You can't change it's colors, and the way it is attached is slightly different, however.

Also, do you have screen shots of the two Arachnos chest symbols (CoV CE and vet reward)? I'm curious to see what's different about them.
