The Screenshot Trace Project

Inspired by LadyJudgement (I think), I decided to try my hand at screenshot tracing (and try to use a few of the funky Photoshop tools -- I'm still afraid of it. So many buttons!) so I chose this to start, featuring Ragnarockette.

I found it an amazingly good exercise for a fast training of shadowing and colouring (and also because you have an original image to trace from which makes it helpful to know where to place the shadows) so I decided I wanted to do a few more of this.

Also, if some other gallant artists wanting to give a try to their colouring, I'd here by suggest to start a Screenshot Tracing Project.

Post your best screenshot here -- and hopefully someone will pick it up. I think that high res and high quality ones would be best (and personaly I'd prefer tracing over characters rather than landscapes).

Me? I had a lot of fun doing this -- since Ragnarockette is a valkyrie, I figure her Energy melee is actually rune magic -- those funky letters around her hands were supposed to be runes but seems I'm lacking in a rune font.

Also... I'll gift art (of the person's choice) the first person to identify where do those words come from.

Wow I think that's great, even a trace has to be well done, I can see your style in the face... nice going!

Another thing to add and try Anyweth, is to start with the character trace, and finish with your own ideas for costume pieces and etc... don't be tied down to the COH clothing, color, hair styles. I'd love to see more of these.

Hey, feel free to add your own to be traced!

Ooo, I that really nice! I really really like the runes around her hands. That is some neato stuff. =^_^=b

Hmmm, I wonder if I could do something like this even with my pathetic drawn arts skillz. =O_o= Tracing has got to be easier than free-hand drawing, right?

<--- Is so ignorant in the ways of drawn artz. >_<

Trust me, tracing LOOKS so much easier... and then, it turns into being just as, if not more, complicated. ;_;

Heh...all my shots currently online are very static character images, not much good for this sort of thing. I'll see what I can dig up at home.

For runes, I think I just clicked a buncha good looking stuff in the character map in Windows and added some spiffy glow effects for the dice (see here if you want)

EDIT - Also...I can't find the digital trace of Roxy I was given earlier :/ This will annoy me til I find it...

The words are HP Lovecraft in nature, IIRC.

Afraid not. They might have been used by him, but they preceed him by about... a few centuries.

Also, here is the original screenshot.

Oh... Abdul Alharzed, amirite?

EDIT: More specifically, Necromonicon.

Nope. If it helps, the text is the same on each hand -- and it was not written for any fantasy literature\game\means.

almost looks like greek to me

and awesome job

Quod - and

Het, Pet, Qet - ???

Sorrem, Sortem - rumex, genus

Steniit, Stenmt - ???, ???

Fortem - by chance, by luck, accidentally, perchance

And ??? [rumex, genus] ??? by chance.

Upon closer look and from the characters name. It appears to be Norse or Greek.

I must say, as suprisng as this might sound, I'm determined to find the meaning and it has made my day... less dull and boring.

If you choose the "download" option, you can see the picture on a bigger scale. Making the letters easy to read.

Hm. Let me do this.

quod per sortem sternit fortem:
"and very sortem to throw to the ground by chance"

That's all I got.

getting the larger version only helps so much as the power effects behinds the letters still make some of the words hard to read.

I don't think it's greek though. at least not classic greek/new testament greek.

*ding* We have a winner!

Indeed. A fine quote from an old manuscript that then got adapted to an Opera by Carl Orff..

guh.. i should have recognized that....the lyrics for One Winged Angel (Sephiroth's Theme) is based off the same poetry..
