I picked up a Genius MousePen 8x6 tablet for about $60 on Amazon. Since it's my first tablet, I didn't want to spend much on it. It's a ton cheaper than the Wacom Intuous3, although the wireless pen does not have an eraser on it. There have been reportsof the cursor jumping a bit, and some of the reviews on Amazon indicate that some people had trouble installing it. I have had neither problem thus far with it. It's apparently not compatible with Macs, but it runs fine on my PC with Windows XP.
Hey Warface!
I was gonna surprise you with a drawing a while back, but was bogged down by my own workload, so got all the references but never had time to do a sketch. As of this very moment too, my pc is in the shop, typing on the wife's Mac... however over xmas, I bought her the new line of Wacom called Bamboo. It's got some nice extras for the price, programmable buttons a much wider surface area, and although not as sensitive as their Intuos line, a good bang for the buck... we got hers for under $70.
Comes in a nice black gun metal too so you may enjoy the aesthetic look of it... my best bud back in NYC is a Marine, I still remember the day we all camped out in his back yard the morning he left for boot. So in honor of him (also an artist), the Corps, and you, I will go off and do that sketch for ya.
Talk to you soon bruddah!

Okay.........After 20 stick figures lol I came up with these two ROUGH ROUGH poses. (unshaded and without armor of course) The skulls and hands need tons of work as you can tell.
The idea is eventually I will have him bursting through a wall attacking a hero. (He is an 8 ft tall 750 lb Cyborg villain after all)
Which pose do you like best and any pointers just from my initial body structure. (Im not that good with muscles either)
Pencil Poses 1 and 2

I personally like Pose 1 more. It looks much more natural to me.
Though Pose 2 could look pretty awesome and dynamic if you tweaked the left (our left) hand a bit.
Umm...I'd go with Pose 1. With pose 2, you're going to need to do foreshortening, which can get QUITE tricky.
So, anatomy-wise, first and foremost, you should enlarge his head a bit in Pose 1.
As for muscle mass, he needs bigger deltoids, I believe that's what they're called (the part right above the biceps). With arms, the structure gradually gets smaller. Even if you want some guy witth HUGE "guns", you're going to need a foundation that can support it. Moving outward a little bit, you're probably going to need to either enlarge his wrists or make his hands a little bit smaller (I'd go with enlarging his wrists so that it'd fit more with the overall massive structure of his body).
For his waists, you should straighten that line out a little bit due to him being a male character.
Hmmm. Pose 1 is not dynamic enough for "bursting through the wall". It looks like he's just flying around.
BTW, do you have action figures or dolls for posing reference? It helps a lot.
I like pose 2, the legs on pose 1 don't seem dramatic enough... btw, here's my quick 30 minute attempt, sorry for the roughness... I hate working on this Mac, it just doesn't feel comfy...

And Lady J shows up out of the stratusphere! WHERE YOU BEEN WE ALL WANT TO KNOW!!!
I love your pose too Lady J! LOL you crushed mine with just simple lines................sigh
The more I look at it I think Pose 2 would be best for wall bursting as some of you point out.
If thats the case......... Ill drum up a Rough Draft this weekend.........using some of Lady Js fast body parts and see what I can do....... taking some of your very on the spot comments Ill try to stay close to what you guys said.

So Daos what would you change..........by foreshortening are you talking about making his back right foot smaller? (Our right)

Well if you are going with pose 2, I think you should raise his left arm(right) and lower his right arm(left) and switch the leg positions around.

I's been sickie and computerless since December 26th. It's been a very fun holiday to say the least... this is being written on the wife's Mac, and since she uses it from 7am to 11pm, I only get to check my mail afterwards, and well lately this past week my back said no no no to sitting.
Anyway, don't be influenced by my pose, I love your approach, the costume is a bit of a hindrance, and you really should push your anatomy to get the best out of the figure, your pose 2 is much more dramatic than mine. Plus I have the added safety of working in Illustrator where each line is adjustable. I shudder to think what my actual pencil lines would look like without it... perhaps like a left handed junkie, will draw for food!
Stick to your approach, this is a growing process, and it's a really good beginning btw. Semper Fi!
LJ
2 it is and Ill take Cresents advice............Pose 2 with a bit more definition coming tomorrow night.

Thats a pretty nice base you got to work with. Can't wait to see the final product. I always loved your character btw, great look, great name.
even though i'm too late technically, you wanted to be critiqued and i'll throw in my opinion on both.
Pose 1: head's too small, leg on our right (really bent one) wouldn't bend that far. guys with big leg muscles like that aren't as flexible as a kitten. my legs are large and i can't get my foot anywhere near that close to my butt. i'd say the maximum bend would be to about 10 degrees, you have it at about 2. he has a GI JOE waist. i.e. his hips/stomach has an abrupt shift rather than a smooth transition in the turn.
pose 2: bring the upper arm down some. ribs seem a bit too wide. his left wrist looks a bit broken, i'd angle it a bit inwards so you can see the back of his hand slightly.
And you mentioned burstiing through a wall, most large things bursting through a wall curl up as they do it and explode outwards. watch the juggernaut chasing kitty in x3 for an example.
Posing can be rather difficult, for me I found some girl on deviantart that takes pictures of herself in outfits for stock photography. She has tons of poses and it really helps me get positioning and body shape right. Perhaps you can look for pictures for inspiration before you start randomly throwing a pose onto paper from your head.
And after all the negativity above, they both look quite good despite some small flaws, keep it up.

My 50s:
Hero: Armor Assassin (scrapper), Cross Dresser (scrapper), Surly Seaman (blaster), Defensive End (Tank), Rad Rhino (Cont)
Villain: Beast Infection (Corr), Sweet Zombie Jesus (MM), Milk Weasel (Stalker), Orgullo (MM), Agent Eris (Crab)
More sketches for ya, this time unaltered lines done on actual paper... I figure since I'm computerless, I can still doodle... hope they inspire you.

Rather than continuouly draining my money account I am going to work on my own for the first time.
Going to do a step by step drawing of my main character Warface (Brute EM/Inv) Lev 50. I will work on a pencil and post it here by end of this week of DRAFT 1.
Goal is to have the major coloring of him DRAFT 2 the next week.
Then have the background DRAFT 3 the third week.
Would love your extremely hard critiques as I move along if you have any time.
I am determined to get better and you guys continously impress me with your work.
My wifes jaw dropped when she saw the work on the last piece Thors Assassin had done.......... man I would love to be as good as that guy someday.
The skull will be the toughest to get right as will be the hands.
I will be working out the basic pose choices tonight and post them here.
Thanks ahead of time
Also I lost my pen for my WACOM (cant remember name) tablet during my last military move cross country. It was old technology anyway. Any recommendations for a new tablet?
