The Official CH/VC Wrasslin' Thread!

Ok, I suggested this in the Masters thread, it seems like a good idea from the amount of wrestling discussion we have on these boards. Plus it should keep the "you know wrestling is fake, right?" trolling down.

So, use this thread to discuss the wonderful world of Professional Wrestling. WWE, TNA, RoH, Dragon Gate, any and all discussion is fair game.

Let's start with thoughts on Impact tonight! I haven't seen it, so someone fill us in. Was Scott Hall's return cool? Did the Machine Guns kick as much [censored] as they always do?

Starts in one hour, forty-five minutes!

I am predicting good matches by awesome wrestlers, interrupted frequently by commercial breaks and Kurt Angle segments.

Sometimes, watching TNA these days, with all the retreads, makes me think I'm watching WCW from about 12 yrs ago. Hall and Nash....the Steiners....a Macho Man wannabe....Jeff Jarrett....Raven.... Sting

The small-time-production reminds me of when WCW was struggling in its infancy too. You kind of felt dirty watching wrestling that wasn't WWF. (Of course, I also watched NWA and UWA wrestling, and got to see the Von Erichs, the Freebirds, and other great wrestlers in matches that were just as good as anything they have now.)

A question for y'all: When you see guys like Flair, or Sting, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, et al. still wrestling way past when they were at their peak, do you still root for them, or do you secretly wish they'd go away before they embarass themselves? How many mid-to-late 40's wrestlers do we need? And does having all the oldtimers around speak to the dearth of quality talent in the younger generation of wrestlers? Do we need Sgt Slaughter putting on the old tights and getting his [censored] beat by some punk? I'd rather remember the legends the way they were than what they've sunk to.

Loose --> not tight.
Lose --> Did not win, misplace, cannot find, subtract.
One extra 'o' makes a big difference.

Depends on who it is. I still cheer for Hogan and Flair. But I wanted Duggan to go away when he was in his prime. Time hasn't helped him any in that regard.

ok soooooooo always good to see scott hall and nash together

scott hall says hes never been or is he...stings partner

also liked when he said the boys still own wrestling...hes right about that

well does that only leave booker?

Flair can still put on entertaining matches, and I think he deserves to wear a major belt one more time before he retires if only as a way of saying thank you for all you've done for the business.

The Steiners haven't done anything for me in like 15 years.

Sting is OK and probably can pull off another year or three in the spotlight.

Duggan and Slaughter need to stay in the back. I don't mind them coming out every once in a while and putting on a match for their hometown fans, but Duggan definately needs to stop making regular appearances.

Yeah, that leaves Booker and Jericho, and Jericho's 100% coming back to the E, so it's going to be Booker. Which is fine with me, I love the guy.

You can't badmouth Hacksaw! He's awesome!

I could do without the Steiners and Ric Flair. And much as I like Sting and as well as he can still do matches, I'd really rather see TNA's original guys put in the spotlight more. The way they set things up it's like "hey, look at these great TNA guys we have! Look at'em go! Now moving right along to the important matches, we have former WCW and WWE wrestlers!"

The only exception to that is Christian, who is several times better in TNA than he was in WWE.

Edit: Oh yeah, I forget about them whenever they're not on TV to annoy me, but VKM needs to go away somewhere.

Tomko always has the best responses ever to AJ and Christian.

I recommend an "exploding cage match" against Shawn Waltman and Vince Russo. Except with no way to escape the cage.

Huh, I forgot evil Goldust still exists too.

Although on the plus side, the announcers have been spending about 70% of the matches actually calling it, 10% about the people in the ring's PPV match, and the other 20% talking about what the Angles are doing backstage. That's a huge improvement.

Edit: Kurt Angle's still a little schizophrenic though.. o.o

Edit edit: Scott Steiner still does hilarious promos though.

And I love Crystal.

Generally, I wish they'd go away, or move into roles as mangers, though WWE doesn't seem to actually have managers any more (Khali's translator with the bad hair cut doesn't count!), which is a shame, as a manager with decent mic skills can add a lot to a wrestler who can't cut a promo to save his life.

Sting is a bit younger than the other guys you mention isn't he? Though I've never been a huge fan of his.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, or if he's hit the circuit in the States yet, but Brett Hart has been doing a lot of interviews to promote his new book up here. I've heard him on CBC radio twice, and once on the prime-time show on the local all-sports radio station. I could try to chase down podcasts if people are interested.

They still have James Mitchell as a manager in TNA. Who is awesome.

Sting is 49.

Edit: Too much Angle stuff as usual, but all in all a very solid Impact. Also, make sure to watch the Road to Genesis show this weekend, as they'll be showing the Ultimate X match from Bound For Glory, which was crazy awesome.

I call him "Mutadust" because his mannerisms and such sometimes remind me of Muta.

I missed the last half hour of TNA - what was the big thing between Hall and Nash? I figured it was going to be something silly and stupid.

They had some small talk, Hall said he wasn't Sting's partner, they hugged, Kurt Angle demanded to know why Hall was there if he wasn't Sting's partner, Sting stood at the top of the ramp and stared at the ring, the three guys in the ring stared at Sting, show ended.

What surprised me about the main event was how Roode, Storm, Joe, and Young were showed as being equals in the ring with Sting and Angle. If I didn't know better, I'd say TNA was letting us know they'll be giving those four more of a build soon. Or in Samoa Joe's case, again.

while not probable but it could also be Paul Wright aka Big Show. Hes a free agent now and been past champion in both WCW and WWE.
