The Watcher twitched at the sudden shock of the explosion. That had been a varible, alright. However, it may not have been a bad one...

--------------------

The Sword duo gave Klaus a short once-over with a look, then went right back to what they were doing. In short order, they...

--------------------

Schwarzherz reacted immediately, a dome of murk and mire rising up around the soldiers and Clockwork, rendering the senses of the attacker blind. The thing seemed to be a combination of several sorts of gloom, centered around both the dark General and the attackers, preventing even one of them from finding a target.

Well, actually that wasn't entirely true - even the shadows couldn't deflect or absorb every strike. Luckily, there was an 'endless sea' of Clockwork, resulting in a nearly infinitely large case of StoSyn.

Then the first gaggle of Clockwork exploded. A second later, another followed. Then another. And another. And another.

Dual rakes of shell trails accompanied the M102 detonations, the Bushmasters of Schwarzherz's Spectre high above blazing trails of destruction through the Clockwork that surrounded the troop while its main artillery cannon took potshots at the largest collections. Out of sight and out of range, counterattacking the C130 wasn't an option for the mechanoids.

CAS established, the troop didn't hesitate to move. If the Clockwork could come up through solid pavement, there was little doubt they could do so with a concrete foundation. Down the stairs they went, dragging their bubble of murk along, bolting off Liberty Road and onto the plaza of its main structure...

((Hah... E-X was perfectly well aware of the effect his words were going to have. They're a more effective pep talk than 'Hooray, boys, let's all get our throats cut!', after all... That, and he's a Blaster. He ain't wrapped too tight to start with ))

The Blaster ignored Klaus, for the most part. He wasn't radiating any dangerous energy fields (although his bags were), and they had more immediate problems. "We've got about two minutes before option two becomes option one and makes this whole thing moot. And if the Clocks drop the Goosesteppers, this whole operation is moot, because that means they'll get the city rep as well. And I mean 'get' as in 'rip to distinctly non-interrogatable shreds'."

Energon X gave a cynical shrug. "We don't have the luxury of time for debate, or even much in the way of thinking. I don't like it, but we're about due for some heavy action." He shrugged again and lifted off. "I'm taking point, stealthed." he said, fading from view. "Whatever gets decided, I'm going to need a moment to get into position anyways... I may have a trick or two that can help tilt the odds. It's the Blaster credo, after all... any problem can be solved with a big enough explosion."

The comm went silent for a moment, then E-X added "And creepy and creepier there could probably send for some reinforcements... I'm two blocks away, and already the Clocks are thick enough on the ground that I could walk the rest of the way there without touching ground."

If Dax had a mouth he would be grinning so broad it would look like his face would break. As soon as they are out of sight I can go Bishop without harming anyone. From what Hobo Ned just said I can get to work and start enjoying myself in another few seconds

Dax turned and began to run across the ground toward the explosions. . . . .laughing like a loon the entire time

"Targetting... team dispersal noted... should anyone care what I think, I would strongly advise against entering the Northwestern portion of the melee." the Blaster commented. "I can't see the City Rep- I suspect she's underground still. I certainly hope she is." E-X continued. There was a whistling roar, and an explosion the size of a house engulfed the brawling Clockwork and Council in the aforementioned Northwestern portion of the melee.

Energon X nodded in unseen satisfaction and shifted position before the return fire had a chance to shred him, tucking away his frankengun and lighting up.

Twin columns of energy nearly three feet across apiece lanced out, chewing up the pavement in twin furrows. They also chewed up any enemy troops unfortunate enough to be in their path as the airborne blaster started playing "Close Air Support". It was a role he played well.

"Speaking for myself, I'd call the Council 'acceptable collateral'. They're not going to let us take the Rep just because we ask nicely. So I don't feel a lot of guilt about blowing them up along with the tinkertoys." he finished, flying in a wild, evasive pattern as (mostly) careful fire ripped into 'his' portion of the battlefield.

"hehehe...I'll take that reccomendation of acceptable collateral!"

Bladewing swung his No-Dachi in a test cut, and nodded as the 8 foot thick concrete block parted down the middle.

Sprinting in the direction of the Council base, Bladewing noticed that all the clockwork he could see were being strangely complacent, compared to the ones that had attacked the soulhound.

Karl was already gone, having rushed away once he was declared free to go.

-----

It was futile.

For every Clockwork that fell...

An entire batallion of them would swarm in from any given direction.

This was not Atlas Park or Kings Row. This was BOOMTOWN. Here, the Clockwork had an infinite amount of backup. They could recycle their own bodies endlessly up to the point where they were ground to fine powder. They had limitless amounts of scrap to construct themselves from. And now they were backed by the villain of the week.

If one could declare what the most common color in Boomtown was, it would most likely be grey. Either that or black, or some very dark shade of brown. In truth, the most common color here in Boomtown was green.

And that color glared from every shadow, every nook and cranny, the sky was filled with them, the ground crumbled as they tore it away and came up from below, the ground was completely obscured by the tide of them.

The green glow from the eyes of the Clockwork.

Well. At least around Liberty Road, anyway.

Not three blocks away it was as silent as the grave. There were obviously still Clockwork there, but they wern't active. It seemed they were determined to wage World War eleven on only Schwarzherz and his troops. But if any of the others cared to fight, that was fine by the Clockwork.

-----

Grenadier Village

The Council Soldier walked out of the cargo container that was really the disguised secondary entrance, and surveyed his surroundings.

Nothing. Not a single Clockwork in sight.

He breathed a heavy sigh of relief, and pulled out a walkie talkie. He muttered a few words into it before putting it back and quickly taking in the perimeter.

((I could also use some clarification as well. Boomtown is LARGE people, it was never built to be traversed FAST. It's the largest zone in-game in terms of land-mass, you'd think there would be SOME from point-a-to-point-b stuff going on between fights. Or at least some indication of which direction you are all blazing off in so others arn't confused about who is attacking what when and how. ))

((Uhm... given that as far as I remember, the only position Karl gave to us was the Council Base, that's where I was headed. And how the heck did Schwawhatever get so far away with the Clocks this stir-crazy?))

"Right..." Dennis sighed, rubbing the back of his head, then added, "This day just keeps getting better..." He rose into the air and, before flying off to the battle, gave Dusan an order.

"Dusan, these are Clockwork. You can't hurt them in any way, so try to find the City Rep. instead. I'm sure you can distinguish her soul from the ones of the Council there." He flew off, not waiting for an answer, confirmation, complaints, or much of anything, really.

Dusan, not waiting to give an answer, confirmation, or complaint, boosted his soul and those around him, giving them incredible feats of speed. He sped off to the east as well, planning on 'convincing' a few Council to defend him when he got there.

OOC: East, Krazy? The Council base is in the west.

BIC: "And off we go again," Ghoul muttered as he rolled his shoulders and did a couple of squats to warm up his legs. "Lead the way, blaster bot."

Running forward a few steps, Ghoul hopped once, landed, then tensed up his legs and sprang about two hundred feet in the air, describing a nearly perfect arc before he hit pavement and bounded into the air again.

"Try to make some landmarks or somethin'!" Ghoul shouted over the rushing of the wind. "I don't know my way around this scrap heap!"

((Mmkay, I'm just going to go with the old version of Darkvapor being there observing and Bladewing and Energon going after the base then. Oh, and someone get me a stick to poke Diov with. ))

It seemed the entity would leave it at that. Schwarzherz couldn't say he didn't appreciate this gesture. As the Syndrome grew larger and larger, it gave him and the soldiers more playing room to use to their advantage.

In short order, they had reached the building's doors. The heavy steel chains may have stopped the average intruder, but they couldn't quite resist a demo charge. Steel and glass rained every which way, accompanied by a flash of light and sound of thunder. The doors held not.

Sadly, the advanced armor plating behind them did.

"Should've known." the dark General grumbled, babbling more military jargon into his radio. Shortly thereafter, the C130 redirected its M102 at the main plates, pounding away at them until they gave way, tearing apart with the satisfying scream of overstressed metal.

And while the Specre returned to CAS, Schwarzherz and the soldiers stepped inside the run-down structure. It was truly a moment to behold. Not only did they stand in the former heart of Paragon's finest, but it was a fact that they were the very first ones to enter this building in more than five years...

Even though Karl had left in a hurry, the Vaguard had gotten more than plenty of time to scan both.

Karl was perfectly normal to them. (For a mortificator anyway.) There were no magical residues about his personna, and no unusual anomalies about him either. As far as he was concerned, nothing was wrong with him.

His coffin, on the other hand...

The entire thing appeared have a transport apparatus installed in it, either that or it had an interior teleport option. There was nothing else too special about it, aside from various automated surgical tools grafted into the sides, tubes, and so forth. The box was a morgue slab. It was easy to imagine Karl could have a fresh cadaver ready from the thing in mere seconds, either by transporting a ready one there or by having the coffin make alterations to deceased bodies. Other than its rather disturbing features, there was nothing too abnormal about it.

If they wanted to catch him, he was still in plain view, hurrying off.
