Reference Shot Archive Thread

I'm relatively new to this area of the forums, so forgive me this this has been brought up before and shot down like the potentially horrible idea it is.

That being said....

We all like free art, right? As an artist, I like doing pictures for people as surprises (like my defunct Turkey Scratches for example), but often I can't find reference shots for them due to my extremely weak search fu. And I can't just come out and ask for screenies, because that would spoil the surprise.

So I always thought that having a thread where people could just list reference shots for their characters would be a good resource for both artists and art collectors. Any art that would result from it can be their own threads.

The Artists have a ready supply of available models all in one place. If the artist has something in particular in mind or an open request thread (IE. imagesbyalex's Sketch a Day Thread or Xertul's "I need two villains"), they can still post them as threads, but if they just want a random character or search for someone in particular they could come here.

The Collectors have a place to show their characters off and maybe get free art. Obviously, if you post your screenies, you would also post any caveats to drawing of your characters. IE: Just serious pieces (to keep jokers like me away), No NSFW pieces, etc.

Sounds interesting, but unless it gets stickied it will likely fall down to the bottom of the forums pretty quickly.

This is a bloody brilliant idea, man! Sounds great... You should update your original post with all the characters we get, so artists can just look on the front page.

That's a great idea, but isn't there a time limit to editing the OP? Can't do it after too much time has past?

No, it's a post-limit.
Once you get past 10 replies, I think it is, you can no longer edit that post.

We may be able to get a Mod to change it... I know the 'Guide to Guides' is updated even though it has over 20+ posts

Well, that's something I'd be willing to take on if we're able to do so.

The Heroes ans Villains Rosters have our characters stories and most of em have screenshots. there is also a reference thread in the Art, art, art! section of our forums at the top...

Well if you want to keep up a list, everything of mine is in my ref folder for now and constantly getting updated with characters, costumes, and wiki links

I approve of this thread.

My reference shots are linked off my Deviant Art page for easy access "Wanna Draw Rowr? Click here!" I hope that is easy enough to find!

Hmmm, sounds like a great idea. I agree this topic needs to be stickied, however, a topic on the CoX forums will most likely be getting quite cluttery with comments on ref-pics, off-topic stuff, etc in the same thread. Maybe there should be a special organized website, like that Hero Threat Database website, but then with good reference-shots (and a good tutorial on how to make them >.> ). I would make one, but my php-knowledge is still low and college is starting again, so I don't have as much time as I would like to solely maintain such a website x.x

Guess I'll include my own reference shots(compiled for me by Turbo_Ski) here if someone wants to draw stuff...AHEM....
