No one else has complained about this. Perhaps it was a brief stun effect hitting at just the wrong time. I'll remove it unless others have encountered it.

Ah, the inevitable balance issue amongst the STHs. Personally I would like to see more uniformity in these powers given that they are the true staple control power. The long activation times for Ice/, Plant/, and Grav/ make the difference preventing them from holding through the PToD, and almost certainly make a difference in PvP effectiveness.
How would people feel about an issue like this:
Activation times for the single target holds (Gravity Distortion, Char, Block of Ice, Dominate, Strangler) need to be more consistent, because this is a limiting factor when trying to hold tough enemies such as Players, Heroes and Arch Villains.
And for Strangler:
Strangler has 2 disadvantages when compared with the other single target holds, its targets need to be grounded, and its animation time is extremely long. This is inappropriate for a power that is so critical to the control sets.

[/ QUOTE ]Looking at the raw numbers, I'd say the first item seems acceptable, but I must add to that that subjectively I only ever have an issue with Strangler, and it only because there's an obvious pause in its animation.
As for Strangler not affecting flyers, I can accept that as a flavor issue, but it seems thematically inconsistent that Entangle works similarly but includes -Fly, which Strangler doesn't. If they'd simply add -Fly to Strangler, I think it would become much less of an issue.

I agree. Wormhole's stun duration is fine and consistent with that of other stuns. (Plus, looking at it just now I noticed it's mag 4/8 in PvP! )

My friend's Dom picked Scirocco for the end drain so can't help you there :/

I agree. Wormhole's stun duration is fine and consistent with that of other stuns. (Plus, looking at it just now I noticed it's mag 4/8 in PvP! )

Almost all of the Dominators and Controllers controls are Mag 4 in PvP, so that's not really a surprise.

I think its obvious if they are walking around. If immobed, its harder to tell.

From memory, this refers to the activation time being longer, and the damage being either less or more resisted. Take a look at the stats in City of Data, and check out if you think it's losing out.
[/ QUOTE ]Damage of GD is the same as Char. It has the third-longest animation of Dom holds (just barely shorter than Block of Ice). It is tied with Strangler for the most resisted/defended Hold, but it also has those slows which are awesome in PvP. IMO, if any of the single target holds come up short, it's Strangler, not GD.

The biggest difference between Gravity Distortion and Strangler is the hold of GD applies at the end of the animation while Strangler is applied at the start of the animation.
Its a rather noticeable difference and once a fight starts can mean the difference between stopping that boss from smacking you in the face in time or face planting.

I'm trying to remember my objection to the Disorient animations being so subtle..
I mean, they definitely are when everything is immob'd, but otherwise they're not too bad.

From the Control set yeah; I had been digging through the Assault sets for a while and Energy's mezzes, even TF, are down to mag 3 there. But, yes it makes sense.

Wormhole's duration is actually 25% longer than Flashfire. To balance that it has a considerably smaller AoE.

I just tried this out, and there is quite a big difference between Gravity Distortion and the other STH in when the hold takes effect. I'll put that specific issue in.

the only question is should domination boost Taser Dart's hold and Tranq Dart's sleep, and my opinion is that it shouldn't. Would require additional code in those powers, as well.

I'm not sure if it should or it shouldn't, but I think the issue is too small to be concerned with. I don't recall ever seeing someone using those powers in earnest. Probably due to the poor accuracy.

Stalkers use the Taser and Tranq Darts a lot just to setup a 1 sec hold/sleep for their next attack for the 20% chance to crit.
But otherwise, yah you're right. I usually don't even use them at lv 1 myself.

Mobs who are protected from control still react to control powers as a high threat. This is a problem for the Dominator who expected to be able to hold a mob, but just ends up with a face full of aggro. (Infamy September 9th)

This one merits some testing, I'm not sure the effect is dramatic as we've suspected in the past. Unless someone provides something more concrete, including specific mob types, powers etc. this won't make it onto the list.

I'm going to have to back-pedal on this statement. Dominate and Char get fast activations, Block of Ice and Gravity Distortion get nice slows. The balance against tough foes is there, so no need for an issue.

Plant/ already has too much of its effectiveness wrapped up in too few powers, I couldn't support adding -Fly to Strangler.
Slight change to my proposed wording:
Strangler has multiple disadvantages when compared to the other single target holds, its targets need to be grounded, it has the longest activation time, and unlike the other long-activating holds does not have a secondary effect This is inappropriate for a power that is so critical to the control sets, especially against the toughest enemies.
