At this point, you're pretty much going to have a hard time getting pre-built systems that don't have Vista. You can upgrade back to XP, but drivers are going to be a pain. On the up side, I've heard that Vista has mostly stopped eating the host machine now, so it shouldn't be too painful.

Good luck.

Talek and I will be building the new machines and simply installing XP on them. We're avoiding Vista as long as possible.

Here is a minimilist base using the control room as a meeting room, and the storage room as a bedroom. I like using the blue blocks as room dividers.

The other night an online friend invited me to come visit a server different from the one he and I play on. He wanted me to see the base that his daughter had made.

(Note that I don't know his daughter's actual age or anything about her... I believe she's a young kid, preteen most likely).

Anyway this is a base built on very limited resources -- the VG has only about a dozen members and only a few of those have earned any prestige. The top levels in the VG are 24, 19, and 16, and the top prestige earner has earned less than 70,000 total, so she doesn't have a lot to work with. I also noted that her base was built strictly for looks -- there doesn't appear to be any storage, teleport pads, or med bay. In fact I suspect she bought several oversight centers just because they were big rooms that weren't too expensive.

That said, I thought her base looked great:

here a few quick pics of my base. im a single guy SG on guardian . thanks to alot of work by myself, i have everything i need or want. including autodoc, combat logs, and 8 tp'ers. heres to maybe getting some new stuff for bases in the next issue

Man. So much inspiration and talent.

So here's my meagre contribution. The Gnosis Institute is the headquarters of Praxis, my VG on Justice. It's more of a lair than a base, I guess. In fact, the sole reason I started a VG was so I could play with the editor. I loves me a good map editor, I do.

You really did a wonderful job with that base.

I would have given up after just doing the magic desks needed for the entrance. They really take alot of time, and you seem to have the patience for them.

Owing to the fact that I can't post preview pics in this forum, while I can on Hero Dawn's forums, I'm simply going to link to the post of the screencaps (with thumbnails) I made this morning of my 8x8 Decorative Base for Spring Knights.

Apologies to anyone who "gets lost" looking at the screencaps, even though they're only showing (a mere) four 2x2 rooms. Owing to the 3D nature of the construction of my base, when looking at screencap stills, it can be hard to "keep in mind" the rest of the geography of the room when you aren't *in* it and moving around, looking at whatever you want to and thus controlling the camera angles to see what interests you next.

On the plus side, I have had base tourists ask me "how big is this place?!?" while exploring. This tends to be most pronounced in the Control Room, due to its triple story construction, where I've essentially got a 6x2 room crammed into a 2x2 footprint ... and due to the "treehouse effect" that causes, it makes the room (and by extension the rest of the base) feel absolutely gigantic rather than cramped and pokey (as is more typical on 8x8 plots).

Oh and btw ... my base is still under construction, so I'm not quite done yet.



Anyone who would like a Base Tour to see, and walk around in, the base I've built can ask me for one when I'm online in the evenings. If I'm not on a TF or a raid, I'll be happy to let you come in and explore around. Or send me a PM here in the forums and we can set a time to meet up for a tour.

The most important thing I'd like everyone to take away from looking at what I've done is that this sort of thing is already possible and can be done by anyone (with the prestige and the patience) to really delve into 3D Base Design.

I would just like say nice work to everyone who's been posting pics lately. I haven't gotten much chance to look through much but I did just now and I have to say everyone is being very creative.

Extra kudos to everyone who took the time to float things to make their bases that much more.
