Protector Art and Fiction
'Ties That Bind' has been started... the latest in my more recent, and somewhat darker stories.
The end of one story always marks the beginning of another...
I don't know why I haven't mentioned this, but a part of what's cut back on my writing is that I'm pushing myself to add another concise chapter to a story I'm running in the City Scoop ever week. I call it "The Redeemers," a group I've touched on briefly in Grey's Army, and it's composed of former criminal "mooks," each with their own quirks that makes them stand apart from their fellows. For instance, the group is led by a "Dark Wizard Free Agent" who prides himself on once being able to go toe-to-toe with the Midnight Squad, but has languished in mediocrity because he's not nearly as ambitious as the papers would want. His counterpart is a former Troll Caliban named Garm, who has gotten his crew to shrug off Superadine and brought two of his heavy-hitters (Doug the Ogre and Briggs McBain) along with him.
They operate in crews, as there are a lot of former criminals who want in on this Freedom Corps publicity stunt (as it helps burn off community service), and the story mostly focuses on Garm's crew as they deal with fighting criminals and dealing with the prejudices of the public and other heroes.
I'm starting an arc that I'm hoping will be interesting, and it starts with Synapse bowling a new type of Paragon Protector over and breaking open the visor of the man's helmet. Something else broke, too, but that'll be featured next week.
I'll try to work out something else for Grey's Army today.

I'm going to start my Robot rebellion arc rather soon. After I take a bit of a break, I'll summon inspiration and we can get to work.

Next chapter of S:ACT is up.
I threw up the next chapter for Grey's Army.
Power Breaker is summoned to Scirocco to accomplish a specific mission: Retrieve Luminary.
However, this isn't a kidnapping. For once, the big man is being sent in to do Blue Steel's job.

Finally forced my brain to write again.
I figured it's time I addressed Kip's relationship with his roommate somewhat and how he's doing emotionally. So, he and Fire-Shield go to a sub shop near their apartment and discuss their relationship and Kip asks the mystically "stained" controller why she's in Paragon City to begin with.
Now, there are somewhat racy themes in this, but they're played for humor, mostly. I just figure I should throw up some fair warning before anybody goes reading it.
At least, it's racier than the stuff I normally write.

I added another chapter to Grey's Army. Kip and Roland visit Nester and his girlfriend, Mindy, at Icon in Steel Canyon. Serge's gearing up for a show, unfortunately, there are problems.
And I'm not talking about Nester's "ExoRoman Enforcer" outfit.

Chapter Five of S:ACT is up.
Another chapter in Requiem for a Rogue is up. This chapter spotlights the newest addition to the cast, Alexander Gray, Silas' younger brother.
A little background on Alex:
Alexander Gray is the second son of the Gray family. He grew up in Chicago during the "90's" and witnessed firsthand the horror wrought by the Rikti during the invasion in 2004. Unlike so many of his fellows, he avoided being killed by the marauding invaders. Only to have his career tank shortly afterward. Taking the Gray case killed his career and earned him an office in the basement. His story begins during a sad chapter in the life of a man who constantly struggled for approval wherever he could find it. Being the middle child, Alex was constantly overlooked by everyone in favor of his over-achieving older brother, and his rabidly handsome younger brother. Joining the Warriors during high school, Alex was swept up in the neo-anarchist movement that appealed to so many young men and women at the time. The Warriors consolidating their power in Paragon City was the only thing that saved Alex from a life of crime. Suddenly bereft of purpose, Alex did the only thing that made sense to him. He channeled the rage into something positive. Alexander Gray enrolled in the police academy and graduated with honors in the year 2000.
I hope you enjoyed my little spiel on Alex. I plan on keeping him as a regular character unless plot devices require otherwise.
On a different note, if you enjoyed my little cliff note on Alex and would like me to do the same about my other characters, please let me know. I put lots of work into all of my main characters and each one represents an aspect of my personality. Unless, of course, they are based on other people, or are other people, then they represent the other people.
You pay to play. Having fun is ok. Kill Skuls or kill Crey. Hunt at night or in the day. Black or white or shades of grey. Play it your way. We have no say.

I finally added another chapter to the Air Guard.
Yay!
*kazoo!*
Anyway, I figured it's about damn time the Air Guard started utilizing something a little less UNSTOPPABLE than the Thunder Nimbus and am using this chapter to introduce their version of the dropship. It's essentially the size of a Rikti Dropship or an Arachnos Flier. I call it, simply, a Hover Ship. I'll probably have their lingo refer to it as a Destroyer (the Nimbus would be a "Cruiser") in the future.
In this chapter, the first Hover Ship, the Cyclone, does battle with a lone Rikti Dropship after a Peregrine Island bombing run. In the distance, Statesman and Citadel watch and wait to see if the U.N.-backed defenders will need support.

Moar S:ACT is up.
OH NOES!
I'm building up to something in Grey's Army that I-13's Dual Builds surprisingly inspired. Since I'm going to be only really exploiting the feature with, that character happened to be Nester.
Now, this chapter... This is the first time I've ever written something like this. I have no idea how it came out, because I don't exactly know what I was thinking as I wrote it. Emotional moments that don't involve massively repressed grief, beer-swilling good times, or out-of-place stoic professionalism are foreign to me.
It's strange to write something about two people who genuinely love each other and have them express it.
Especially since I've got no clue how that sort of thing works.
I suppose, the best I can do is work on what I feel is the ideal, and go from there.
In any case, this chapter of Grey's Army is a bit of a personal emotional moment between Nester Durj, Kip's older brother (and my recently quite-heavily used Empathy/Radiation Blast Defender) and his girlfriend/soulmate Mindy Jakobsen.
If I didn't think I needed it, I wouldn't have included it. I usually try to leave moments like this between the characters. Writing something like this feels... Well, not exactly wrong to me, but it certainly doesn't feel normal.

I took a break to write something apart from Grey's Army (even though it's going to come around to it, eventually).
Ransack Rick is the guy I used in Badge's Prison Riot, and this is the story of what he did to wind up in the Zig.
Simply put, he's a twisted, evil monster... WAAAAAAAY beyond anything Phipps has you do. Even with Phipps' arcs, there's some sort of odd cartoon-like undertone. Ransack Rick, however, would kill somebody by folding them into a box just to see if he could.
What's worse, he doesn't really care. It's not evil for evil's sake, it's complete immorality and stark ambivalence.
He's simply wrong.
Just a warning... This story has some explicit and implied monstrosity in it.
Heck, I doubt it will be on the forums much longer.

That's a hell of a story for a dark Halloween night, Grey.
The Abrams is one of the most effective war machines on the planet. - R. Lee Ermy.
Q: How do you wreck an Abrams?
A: You crash into another one.
After all the nastiness of that last thing I wrote, I decided to turn back to Grey's Army and add a chapter detailing the endeavors of some of my characters during the zombie outbreaks.

Chapter seven of S:ACT is up.
Yay for obligatory conversations revealing the plots of villains!
I really posted the next TOTHI !
Long story short, this is a bridge to what I've wanted to write all along, which is Hunter's life in Paragon City. Some of the major characters needed some background to do what I wanted them to do here, but I hope Hunter's saga to this point hasn't bored anyone !
Anyway, no more trips home, no more back and forth. Hunter's in Paragon, and things are changing for him...
Enjoy !
