So... anyone else not get their comic in on time?

Let me first start off by saying:

AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

/charliebrownoff

Worked on my comic pretty much every free moment I had over the past week, including getting up early and staying up late, not to mention working on it a lot last week. Being the perfectionist I am, I decide to make sure everything is just right before I submit it, which I try... only to get an error - PDF Writer and GhostScript need to be installed. Ok, I think, it's a minor set back. Maybe I need to reinstall the program. Nope, no luck. Try again. Nada. Maybe I can download the programs independently of Comic Book Creator? Tried and failed. Maybe I can try a different PDF writer? I saw someone suggest CutePDF. Still nothing. By that point, I'd spent at least 3-4 hours trying to get the program to work, and with two hours left until the deadline, I decide my best bet is to just move to the other computer we have and try it from there.

I download it again, and with the way the product is set up, I have to put every picture I used and then pretty much recompile my entire comic. Not a huge issue, I know where everything goes, but the clock is ticking. I get everything in place and am happy with it... hit publish. Yay, no error stating I need to install these programs.

What do I get instead!? An error stating that the program cannot connect to the Hypercomics website.

I turn off my firewall and try again. Nothing! Ran out of options, and at the deadline, pretty much watched all my hard work go down the drain. If I didn't know better, I'd say Micah from Heroes has an entry in the contest and just did everything in his power to make sure I couldn't enter. Since I do know better, I'll just rank it up with it being a shoddy product. If this was supposed to promote the Comic Book Creator, it did the exact opposite for me, especially seeing that I was barely the only person to have issues with it (although a lot of people were more fortunate and able to resolve their issues).

I will say, I had a lot of fun doing the contest, and it was well put together. Kudos to Lighthouse for that, and especially for getting such an incredibly prize line-up together. Hopefully the next contest won't be linked to a product like this, because I really wish I could've entered, and now I'm just frustrated that I can't even show it to my great friend who helped me so much with it.

Oh well, nothing I can do at this point except vent and glower at my computer. Good luck to those that were able to enter.

This is why I always lie to myself that the due dates are 5 days in advance to what they really are...

I'm wondering how many other people encountered this problem and nothing was done about it before the deadline.

The devs/staff need to consider that this problem *did* occur more than once (I've seen posts) and clearly the choice to use this software should have tipped em off that if something was wrong... they need to fix it to be FAIR to everyone...

I saw the Marvel version for sale in Walmart, but decided against it... not sure I'll be drawing panels any time soon.

Not that I'm knocking anyone, but (thankfully) I got hyper/nervous/anxious on monday, and tried uploading some 'test' stuff.

Yeah, my stuff was broked.

Then, I worked a bunch.

Then it was coming up on thursday, and I honestly thought it was due midnight that night. So, I just barely got it done at like 10 that night.

That all being said (and I'm not rubbing it in or anything, honestly), there were still a few minor errors/issues (my comic cover is the 'original' non-backed up one without the UPC, fer instance, and I was afraid to update it for fear I'd break it) actually making sure it ended up on the site. I just hope it works.

I don't know if they'll give us some leeway due to issues (they might balk and say 'We gave you a whole month, tough!) but I'd at least like to know if they could actually see it. Again, I was nervous, and I didn't save a copy of my email... so don't know right now if I sent Cryptic the link as 'my comic book 4295' (or whatever) or as notahero.

It's enough to give one an ulcer/stroke/mental breakdown, I tell ya!

Perhaps we get some redname action to yea/nay the bonus time?

meh, I WAS gonna spend 2 weeks making the comic the best I could....but the problems I had with my copy of that comic creator thing-

A. No text, thats right, I wasnt able to write anything, spent a good 3 hours trying to fix it, I finnaly did, and began work.

B. Saving work is pretty much useless, allow me to elaborate, whenever I save my work, and load it again, it only loads the template for the page, and maybe the text if Im lucky, all the pictures I put in dissapear.

C. The most disruptive problem I would say would be the fact that I could only make my comic one page long, as errors would ensue whenever I tried to add another page. So even if I did spend 2 weeks doing a comic, It would only be a cover page long

The program borked for me too, apparently it wouldn't publish anything on a Windows x64 system...I managed to submit the comic after having to reinstall the program on another OS, albeit a couple hours late. Hopefully it'll still be accepted.

Oh yeah... I totally forgot about that. RANDOM CRASHES.

If I had either GiMP or CoX open while CBC was open (you know, to make sure my shots/edits fit the panels right), it would just randomly crash. And twice I had problems with the saved versions (one came up with no text, the second glitch gave me 23 pages with random repeats of my pages, with totally WRONG pics)

I blamed my PC for that (you know... stupid me for having a bunch of resource-hungry apps open simultaneously) , but after hearing some of this, I wonder if it's not somehow CBC's fault. =/

Like many things in my life, I approached the Comic Contest with fevered enthusiasm followed very shortly by malaise. I got quite a bit of work done that first week then I just lost my drive. I only pushed through it because a friend was bugging me about it. I got mine uploaded and the email sent out with about 15 minutes to spare.

And a few of the text boxes didn't display properly but it was really my fault. I mean, I didn't have any of the comp problems people are describing here and if I had just kept up sopme momentium, I could have uploaded test pages a couple weeks back and fixed the display problems. I'm probably going to finish mine properly at some point and take down the old one once the contest is over. I doubt I have a shot with the text box funkiness but maybe they'll be forgiving. Who knows?

I gave up after the program couldn't find any of the images I set into all of the panels the second time I loaded it up. The font selection in the program is pretty poor as well. I think the only real thing I liked about the program is setting up the chat bubbles was relatively easy. In the end I decided that working with the program wasn't worth the frustration. I wasn't likely to win the contest anyway, so why bother?

I haven't even been playing the game all that much anymore and have been spending my time instead watching anime. So if anyone in the Envisionaries is wondering where Personamorphess has gone off to, now you know. I haven't been able to enjoy the game for a while. It's probably from all the stress I've been under lately. It seems like it will never end.

Anyway, hopefully I can get back into the swing of things. Maybe with Issue 9s release things might get interesting again. If not then I'll have to start taking demorecords and screenshots of all my characters before I leave the game. I'm hoping that things get intereseting again. I want to stay. In the meantime I'm just trying to hang in there.

Ah well, it's too bad about this contest. I'm a no show yet again. I feel so unproductive.

Don't worry Attache... I dug your comic. With all the GLARING font bugs (legibility, clipping, etc) I'm thinking they might not even worry too much about it.

Good luck! You have a great story!

[conspiracytheory] I think that the dev's purposely gave us a messed up version of the comic book creator so that they wouldnt have to give anybody the prize! [/conspiracytheory]

Whoops, I meant to say "All the glaring font bugs showing up in EVERY comic in their flash reader"

Sorry if anyone took offense... ^^;;

I finished my comic four days after the contest was announced.

I couldn't get it uploaded in time due to bugs and problems every day I tried.

I've given up and don't care anymore. If I can't even submit the [censored] thing, it must not be any good anyway.

Ouch, that sucks. Guess it's a little comforting to know I wasn't the only one who got screwed by the program, heh.

I got screwed too. I still can't figure out how to upload my comic. I've tried a lot of things. But I have run out of ideas.

Bah... figures... I'm running low on new comics to read (however brief) and I find out half the contestants got borked over by the software.

*shakes fist at crappy software*

Ya know... contest or not... You could still try to post it for us comic-starved types....
