Guide: Invention Salvage and You! (Version 2)

I'd love to see something like that and while I could make one up, I don't have the time. Surely someone will come up with one shortly.
I've been spending a bit of time going over the recipes and processing the salvage different ways, and I'm waiting on the recipes mentioned in this thread to be resolved before I can complete one set of lists. The reverse usage list is the last thing I would work on, but my Excel macro-fu is weak, so I'd likely have to resort to a chart/text-based list. Considering that there are 108 different pieces of salvage and recipe usage ranges from 10-80+ for each piece, that's a *huge* list without using some kind of auto-lookup table. I would gladly defer to someone else's l33t programming skillz for help on that.

Well, if you KO a vegetarian you'd get their pets, and they're MADE of meat...nah, I'm sure the devs have a reason.
Your list has been extremely helpful. Since I'm on a laptop playing CoH, I keep most of the info I need in textfiles in the background so as to use less memory. I like the list a lot, but have reordered it somewhat to my liking, for faster lookup for me.
Perhaps someone else might find it useful as well?
Thanks again for this.

Again, excellent guide. I've been using it and referencing it heavily since Issue 9 hit. One question though:

This is great. Does anyone have the following information?
- Exactly what levels each enemy group appears in?
- Which zones does each mob group appear in?
[/ QUOTE ]
Does this information exist anywhere? I'm trying to "map out" where to hunt for certain things whilst playing my wide array of alts.
Main Character: Ice/Storm/Ice Controller (Justice, 1340 badges)
On the villain side, not that I've seen. For the hero side, there is a spreadsheet of enemies and where they're found on VidiotMaps.com somewhere.
I haven't read the whole thread, so I don't know if this has already been submitted, but you can add this to your list.

You have a chance to get invention salvage whenever you defeat any NPC that cons green or above ...
[/ QUOTE ]
You sure about that green part? I thought it was any enemy that gave you XP, which would include a level of grey-con just below green-con.
It'd probably be useful if you mentioned how those tiers of salvage get used.
<ul type="square">[*]Level 1-25 Recipes require Tier 1 salvage.[*]Level 26-40 Recipes require Tier 2 salvage.[*]Level 41-50 Recipes require Tier 3 salvage.[/list]I've found it's convenient sometimes to build a recipe a few levels lower, or wait a little while for one a few levels higher, if it uses salvage that's easier to find.

No recipes or *invention* salvage from greys. Ever. At least, not on Live. If someone wants to dispute this, then hunt sub-greens and provide a screenie of the invention salvage that drops from them.

So if a Boss cons green and the other mobs in the group con grey, I can get salvage from the boss, but not from the Lts or Minions?

By the way, i keep running into people who seem to think that teaming up lowers their chance of salvage drops...I haven't noticed this happening...does it appear to be the case that, say, if you get a salvage drop off of a mob, the percentages are lower or higher based on team size, per mob?
What I mean is, one guy says that if there is an 8% chance of a mob dropping invention salvage, then on an 8 person team, that chance drops to 1% (8% chance of an actual drop, divided among 8 people)

Oh, it does, period.
Let's take the simplest case, going from solo/heroic (or solo/villainous) to a 2 person team, same difficulty. Before: 3 minions = 3 * 0.08 = 0.24 salvage per spawn. 1 lt + 1 minion = 0.08 + 0.1064 = 0.1864 salvage per spawn. Assume equal numbers of each sized grouping, you get 0.2132 salvage per spawned group in the mission.
Now add a second person. 1 lieutenant + 4 minions = 0.1064 + 4 * 0.08 = 0.4264 salvage per spawned group. 2 lts + 1 minion = 0.08 + 2 * 0.1064 = 0.2928 salvage per spawned group. Average that, you get 0.3596 salvage per spawned group. That gets divided evenly between the two of you, so the net result is 0.1798 salvage per person per spawn point. (Yes, the end boss will add its own 0.25 salvage per mission. For most missions, there are enough spawn points that this disappears into the noise. And I've left out the less frequent cases, like single lieutenant spawn or 2 minion spawns. I think it averages out.)
Adding that one additional teammate resulted in a 16% drop, per mission, in how much salvage you get. There are those who claim that that 2 person team will complete missions at least 16% faster than a soloist will. Maybe on the hero side, for non-scrappers, that's true. For my mastermind, except on very rare perfect teams, it's emphatically not true. That's why I argued, while issue 9 was still on the Training Room only, that the per-lieutenant and per-boss numbers needed to be increased.

I took your information and made a spreadsheet from it to make it easier to quickly find what drops a particular piece of salavge. I'll try to keep it updated with the information you have here.

Ah ha! I finally found this, do you know how long I was looking for this spread sheet?
Thank you Colonel /em slaute
Just leaving a reminder to myself for a version 3 update: additional faction. Werewolves (Werewolf World), Arcane.
Is there a reverse guide to inventions that lists the salvage and what recipes it is part of?
I know about recipe spreadsheets that tell me what salvage to use but I am looking for salvage and to what recipes it relates. What I am trying to see is what gets me the bigger bang for the buck for a piece of salvage. Something that goes Boresight - To Hit Buffs 10 to 25, Accuracy 10 - 25, Run 10 -25, Fly, etc. That way you can determine the optimum use of the salvage you get.
It seems in the lower tier that Boresights and Brass are used in a lot of recipes. That of course leads to shortages in the market.
