CoH Live Journal: Answers to Common Questions
I really need major help!!! But enough about me.
What I've been looking for is the enterence to the path that leads to the ruins in Faultline. You HAVE to go underground at some point to get to them and I can't find it. If Anyone knows the answer, please
There are two entrances, one on each side of the dam (north side/south side).
This map shows the underground tunnels in the southwest corner of the north side of the dam.
The one on the north side of the dam is easily overlooked. It's at ground level (before Faultline's collapse) near the corner of the retaining wall canyon leading to the dam. There is a dead tree trunk sticking out of the ground near it. You need to be facing west to see the tunnel entrance.
The one on the south side of the dam is in the Arachnos complex just ESE of the longbow base (where you exit after talking to Agent G). It is in the NE corner of the sunken part of the Arachnos base, you need to be facing north to see the tunnel entrance.

OK, here's my question, why dont' we get the rest of our enhancement slots for our characters once they reach lvl 50? I have space for most of my powers that I could put slots into, but I don't have any way of getting the slots for the powers. I think this is wrong, it took me 6 months to get my character to lvl 50 without power leveling and had to bust my butt to get here only to be limited.
What is the reason for capping our character lvl to 50 any way? I know there are other games that allow a character to go beyond that, so why does CoX not?
Another question I have is why can't we have more character slots on the server? If not for free than why can't we buy more character slots the way players can on Guild Wars?
As much as I love CoX these questions have been brought up by many people over and over again and I have not really seen any reply from the devs in regards to doing something about it. Unless I missed it in which case someone can point me in the right direction.
There is no "rest of the slots" you get them as you level, once you hit 50 you don't level anymore. Its part of the game, hard and fast rule for almost 4 years now, its not going to change. The whole point being, you have a limited amount, you have to budget where you are going to spend them.
Other games have different rules, if you want those rules, go play the other games. CoX encourages people to go through the game with many characters, not keep playing the same one forever. You said yourself the difficulties you faced getting to 50, now imagine the next six months it would take you to get from 50 to 60. You are not the first to suggest raising the level cap, take a search through the forums, you will see it again and again.
Same deal with the slots per server, brought up many times, again as you point out.
Edited for Emoticons, not content
Then if that is the case more enhancement slots should be given as a character is leveling up. It's not logical to give a listing of what enhancements work with which powers in which case power A can have up to 7 enhancements, but the game only gives you the maximum space for 6 slots per power etc.
As for your defensive attitude of the "rules" of other games verses CoX it's bull. Many of the players on the game that are 4 year vets that I know have shared similar opinions about this limitation and they too think it's a load of hooey. All players have a favorite character or characters they have created because they like the fact they can play those characters in the game. To be manipulated into creating other characters so they can see all the enhancements possible for a power for character A through a different toon is ludicrous. Otherwise, what is the point of trying to have a character get to level 50 in the first place if that character cannot be their most powerful? I would understand and agree with your statement if the character was only lvl 10, but that is not the case. Why make a character to play and enjoy playing only have them cut off. I did bust my butt to get to level 50, but I didn't say it wasn't worth it. I would love spending another 6 months continuing to enhance the powers of my lvl 50 toon because they kick butt. All players have a character that is a vet in their cast of toons that was their first creation. Why would anyone want to retire them?
Another line of crap is that additional character slots are not going to be added to a server for characters. Your arguement is that CoX wants us to use multiple characters to play the game and experience it, well then why limit the number of characters to 12?
It would appear that the only arguement here is the "if you don't like our rules then don't play" philosophy. Rules are meant to be changed and as for the limits placed on players in this manner if the game were free then yeah, I agree with the rules that you can only have so many enhancements slots per level and only so many characters on a server, but that is not the case.
However, I didn't expect an answer other then what I got on here, so I'm not surprised. It's just interesting that when someone asks questions they get responses like this. Kindly keep any brow beating to yourself.

This thread is technically supposed to be a mere announcement that a lot of common questions about the game have been answered in a post in the CoH Livejournal community, which we did not (at the time) expect to be publicized as much as it has been.
The devs are not likely to answer any questions in this thread. The community mods are not likely to answer any questions in this thread, apart from what you seem to think is the party line. Us players are operating on what we have been told by the devs and the mods, and we have conveyed this information to you.
What more do you want from us? If you're looking for revolution, this is not the right place for it.

Well as I stated in my orignal post if I had posted my questions to the wrong forum that I would like to be pointed to the correct one. As you said this forum pertains to player questions, but apparently the player questions I asked don't belong here, so woops, I made a mistake.
As for what more I want from the players, nothing, I'm just adding my voice to the many other players who have asked the same questions I have. Again, my mistake for doing so in the wrong place apparently.

Ah and now the great debator wishes to throw down the gauntlet of semantics. Heaven forfend that someone would have a character they created and were playing on another game outside of CoX that they would want to be able to play in the game. I had no idea the vast multitude of player minds were just blank slates with no idea what they want when it comes to creating their characters. What I tried to say is that some people would like to continue playing their favorite Heroes or Villains. As for no one saying this game has great endgame at 50, well perhaps that is an area the developers will consider working on, or maybe not, who knows.

If you thought this was a post with questions that brought up tired points then why did you choose to respond to it? You are entitled to your opinion and I to mine in which case we obviously disagree. As I said in the original message if my questions were posted to the wrong location to point me in the right direction. The point of asking the question is so the subject continues to be discussed. Otherwise how does change occur? You call what I have asked brow beating? I don't see the questions asked as brow beating at all. However, when you chose to respond as you did I only felt inclined to retort in likewise fashion. My point in saying what I said of not being surprised by the response is because of the response I got. There was no point in going into the repromand you threw up when all that should have been said is, "Sorry you asked this in the wrong place." At any rate, thank you for your passionate defense of the status quo.

I was going to treat you to the Bloody Vikings choir rendition of "Troll, Troll, Troll, Troll" but let me answer you question.
CoH/CoV is a game that provides a great deal of customization of your character. Not only we are treated to a wide variety of costume options and body adjustments we are also presented with a choice of multiple archetypes, each with multiple powersets, each with more powers available than we are allowed to take. Then add in the total number of slots we can add to our selected powers, which is less than half than we could use. This is to provide us, the players, a chance to truly create a unique looking character with unique powers. Decisions, decisions.
The available choices are simply mind boggling. Now if we simply allow a level 50 to be able to put six slots into every one of their powers, that will end up reducing their uniqueness. Heroes and villains in comic books do not rise to that level of uberness, at least not for long. Why should our characters be any different?
As for the level 50 cap. The line needs to be drawn somewhere. Right now, after level 38, you need to "arrest" or "off" about 3000 even level minions per level, soloing. That's a lot of missions. Missions that will have to be written by someone. 10 levels worth of missions assuming you bump the cap to 60. Then there are all the enhancements that may have to be replaced as you level beyond 50. These were meant to the the best that one could get, large amounts of influence was spent outfitting these or time spent fighting Hamidon. All for nothing once the cap is bumped up. In WoW when they bumped up the cap, equipment that people spent weeks and months raiding to get were suddenly outclassed by the first drops in the new areas. What was the point then?
You made a point later about having more than 6 different types of enhancements that could be fitted into a single power. Again this is part of the customize uniqueness of your character over the next. You could equip all six slots with the same enhancement or mix a few. You may want to improve your attack's secondary effect or you may just want damage. You could improve your accuracy or increase your attack rate. You decide but you can't have everything. If you could then everyone would as well and the uniqueness once again vanishes.
As for the 8 or 12 character slots per server. WoW only has 10 per server. Everquest 2 has 4 or 8 character in total across all servers depending how much you are willing to pay every month. Lord of the Rings Online has only 5 per server, fewer slots than classes. Eve Online has only 3 all together. I think we're pretty well off in this compared to most. Our character transfer/rename costs are a lot less as well.
It sounds as if you either don't want to be forced into making decisions or fear making the wrong ones. If you are looking for a good PvP build or team build or solo build, check out the PvP and Player/AT guides for build ideas. By the time you are level 20, you have defeated less than 1/10th of the enemies you need to defeat to get to 50. If a concept isn't working then create a new one. If you need to adjust it a bit, do a respec trial at level 24 and rechoose the powers and slotting.
The strength of this game is the shear number of variations players can come up with. However if you rather be railroaded into a limited number of choices, then this game may not be for you.

Thank you for your input on the subject and I think I'm asking the question about power slots incorrectly. My question is why is it not possible for a power to have all it's slots in other words 6 total by the time a toon reaches lvl 50? Most of the powers I have have all 6 six slots filled, except for a couple of epic and power pool powers. I'm basically saying it would be nice to be able to get the remaining slots for those powers perhaps as a veteran reward or just an additional end game feature for reaching lvl 50. If that would not be possible then could it be possible to allow more enhancement slots to be given out as the toon increases in lvls, in other words in stead of 2 in lvls 1-10 do 4 and then increase the increments as the character advances in levels so that in the end each power has the maximum amount of slots available for the player to stack or put which ever enhancments they choose?
I do appreciate the lvl cap otherwise and understand your explanation, however, would it be a horrible thing to hope for in the future?
As for the number of characters on a server I'm sorry for sounding greedy, I understand that there has to be a line drawn where this is concerned too. The matter for me is that I currently have 36 characters spread across 3 different servers and I was looking for options. It can't be done I understand it and will let it be.
Please don't misinterpret what I am asking and saying as me being anti CoX because nothing could be farther from the truth. A friend of mine got me into CoX and the truth is I deeply considered buying it when it was just CoH 4 years ago, but was turned off by the idea of paying a monthly fee to play a video game. Now that I am playing it I'm cool with it and truly love it. Suffice to say this is one of a few games out there with real potential and being someone that keeps moving forward and see the potential in something I'm chomping at the bit for what the future holds for CoX. Personally I'm not even remotely interested in MUO game coming out and think it won't fly. CoX is the original and it rocks!
Well first of all Kellis is right, this should be reposted in the Suggestion board further down, where it will be ripped apart quicker than the public feeding of live animals to lions at Chinese zoos. So wear a thicker skin than you've shown here with AnotherDeadHero, they are less polite down there.
So is your problem is that from the time you have access to ancillary/patron powers at level 40, that with your last four power choices, you only get 18 extra slots to spread across them? Or is it that you get only 3 extra slots with each of your last two power choices giving you 8 slots to spread across two powers, maxing out your last power with only 4 slots?
Well lets look at the leveling chart shall we.
Once you got to level 32 the progression becomes power, 3 slots, 3 slots. Which works out well when the cap was level 40 (they always intended to go to 50 but as I pointed out in my last post, that's a lot of mission content to write so both CoH and CoV was first shipped with level a 40 cap with level 50 content promised in the next issue). If you kept this progression then your last power choice would be at level 50 with no chance to add additional slots so they swapped what you got at level 49 and 50 so you now you did get the option. Imperfect? Yes, but a better choice than last power at 50 with no additional slots possible.

At this point what would be the point of re-posting it there to be "ripped apart" as you have pointed out. A thicker skin, perhaps, but what's the point of having a forum if a person can't ask a question. Well it would have a better shot at getting noticed by Devs than here. This is Player Questions in the Player Help section of the forum. The description for this board reads "Got a Question? Get an answer! Players helping players find information related to CoH/CoV." Devs rarely if ever show up here since this section is player helping player.
You weren't looking for help from a fellow player. You were either looking for an explanation to why you can't six slot your last power selection or suggesting that you get more than 3 slots when you level to 50 so you can six slot your last power. Then you asked why there's a level cap at 50. Then why can't you get more server slots. All of these are questions directed more to the developers than players. When long time players who cruise these boards looking to help fellow players with legitimate questions and problems responded, your response was less of a "thank you" and more of a "you are an idiot, I'm right, your wrong, my friends agree, the customer is always right, etc." You came off like someone who posts on WoW boards.
Now I've tried to explain why your last two powers only have 6 additional slots to spread between them, a necessary evil due to they way they structured leveling for the last 10 levels. Now a similar leveling chart to the one I linked to is in the manuals of both CoH and CoV so it's not a surprise when you get there. I intentionally planned and took powers at level 47 and 49 that I knew I didn't need to fully slot, either one or both, on my 50. And now with level 50 IOs you can get close to the ED softcap with 2 slots and not 3. Also set IOs with their multi aspect enhancements, you can usually get the benefits of one additional slot for "free" (4/5/6 slots worth of normal enhancements in only 3/4/5 actual slots). It was a lot less friendly in the "old" pre IO days.
I've also touched on the number of character slots per server is as good or better than many other MMOs as well as the problems with bumping the level cap.
I think part of the initial problem was expressing what your complaint/problem was and it made you sound like someone complaining they can't make their character awesome and UBER. And those of us who read every post in this forum everyday, because we want to help those who want to play the game we enjoy so much, hate seeing rhetorical questions that are really complaints seeking support cluttering up this board. If you had started your post in a separate thread, we could have had it simply moved to a better location.
Good luck. See you around.

In re-reading what I said I do apologize for coming off the way others took what I was trying to ask. My intent was not to start a fight or insult. As you can see I have only made a few posts on here and I don't deny I'm new to the forum. Technically yes, this is the wrong thread to post on this issue.

New to the game, but so far love it with a passion that burns like a thousand orphanages, and fills my witherd heart with glee like the screams of recently homeless orphans. But enough of the platitudes- I have 2 simple questions.
1) Is there a CoH/V wiki? Where is it?
2) How do I start a supergroup? I keep getting asked to join one and I'm over it. I want a slice of the evil superteam pie, and with my minions...I mean Honored brothers and sisters of evil, I'll show them...Show them ALL!!!!

The 3 items that come with the purchase of the combo game or can be purchased seperately .. does the jetpack prestige power have to be used as a power you select or is it something you get as an extra for purchasing it?? Thanks for your help!! Any info would be great ... Just to clarify I am asking if you have to use a power slot as a power you get to use this jump jet prestige power or if you get it on top of your normal range of powers you get ... Thanks!!!

Blasters do not get a combat pet as part of their set. Fire Controllers do, as their level 32 power.

I have an Electric Blaster with a combat pet (Voltaic Sentinel), so there are exceptions. But Voltaic Sentinel is a bonus. It in no way compares to Fire Imps or Jack Frost.
