For the artists...

Nothing really important or profound here.

In just one general and broad question, how or why or when did you start doing art (of any medium)?

I'd like to see how some artists got to where they are today.

Thanks for your time.

Did it since I was a baby. Never did it for practice, just did it for fun.

I've had the desire to draw and do art *things* my whole life. Unfortunately, my hands were pretty denied the talent. Digital art changed that somewhat, I found the computer can substitute *SOME* of what my hands lack.

I'm very good at putting pieces together which is why I like playing with micro-heroes.

Hehe..."What I am today"? Well, thats not much but...

I technically started drawing Poke'mon and Digimon, making up my own, with their own powers and such. I have a pretty expansive imagination. I also made up X-Men. This was all at a very young age.

Then, after a couple months of CoH and CoV, I got lost in a huge sandstorm, and I wandered into these forums. Genuinely captivated by the talent and submissions here, I, litterally, instantly started drawing Back Alley Scrapper. I got some feedback, changed it, and made it lots better. Now, I draw semi-regularly, when I'm bored, or my brother overthrows my "rule", and takes the computer.

Well, I kinda' rambled on, at least for me, didn't I? ::Shrug::

Anime, obviously. Believe it or not, when I really started trying to draw excluding stick figures, I drew stuff from Dragon Ball Z. ><
I drew Namekians, pretty much. The green, pointy eared people. >.> It was really..... INTERESTING to draw. I reeeally exxagerated the pointy ears, too. And then I started drawing random crappy people. With no foreheads. .....And eyes the size of Mt. Everest. Each. While the ears were messed up, the nose and mouth were incredibly small, and the hair was incredibly big, except vertically. ><

Aye, I guess I have gotten better. @.@

...been doodling for as long as I can remember. wasnt till I turned 13 when I got involved with Champions (the best table top Super Hero RPG EVAH!!!) that I really started working at it. just plain copy paper, a .5 pencil and lots of erasers. 20+ years later....I stopped for a good bit and have recently picked up the pencil again for a few renditions. kinda wish I had stayed focus'd on it like I was years ago...

...ah well...spilt milk an all that jazz~

I've drawn since I was old enough to hold a pencil, although my style's changed somewhat.

Originally, most of what I drew was horses, but in high school I moved to figures/portraits (still in a photorealistic style). Believe it or not (and don't laugh if you do) my AP General concentration was rock musicians. They made great subjects. *misses the 80s* In college I started attempting to learn how to use colored pencils effectively, while drawing my various characters from the RPGs my dormmates so lovingly sucked me in to. My GPA never recovered, but that's another story.

I pretty much quit drawing completely for several years, and just started again a month or so ago. It's true, it's like riding a bicycle....if only everything hadn't gone digital and out-paced me.

I still find photorealism easier than comic-style, and I still loathe any media beyond pencils, colored pencils, or pens. I might have award-winning acrylics on the walls, but I wouldn't touch a paintbrush again to save my life.

*stops rambling now*

KABLAM! >_<

This is a good half of the reason I draw. I have ideas *constantly* - be they for stories, characters, weaponry, random goofy technology, magic... all sorts of things.

The other half of it is because I'm a very visual person... I didn't learn that until much later, but I realize that's why I started. I've been drawing in some form or other since I was 5 <X_X> though I took a massive break at one point (about 4 years) because I was too depressed. Drawing however, got me through highschool - and without it, I may never have made it.

Its just good to be able to *see* what I'm thinking >_< Part of why I like writing too <,< I get to put my brain on paper.

Oh; and I have a huge ego. And when I can share my monumental briliance with the world, it gets fed alot more easily than when I run down the street screaming "I'M A FREAKING GENIUS!"

Seriously. >.>

Well when I was younger I used to watch those drawing shows. Most notably that one with the guy who would draw spaceships and such and teach about things like foreshortening. Y'all know the guy, I forgot his name. But a lot of what I learned I learned from that.
Then back in ... oh around March I guess of this year, I decided that I didn't want to spend all this money getting commissions and just draw Rowr myself. Well that plan backfired as I'm still spending money on commissions and have yet to actually draw Rowr.

But I am getting there! I am finishing up an intro to drawing class at a community college, because I figure I need a good foundation to learn from instead of trying to learn stuff on my own. It helps tremendously to have a teacher over your shoulder to point stuff out.

So yeah. Been drawing as much as I can for this year really. Still have some projects waiting on the wings I really need to get to, and I will get to them sooner or later!

I have been drawing ever since I have been able to hold a pencil (pen.. marker.. wax .... piece of charcoal anything that will actually leave a trace on another medium).

I have however never trully worked at it but always enjoyed it . When I was a teenager I painted oils for a time and then moved to acrylics. Then life took over for a while but If I have a pencil and a piece of paper in front of me I almost automatically doodle. Since I work on the phone that makes for a lot of doodle. Now with CoH I have again started to draw a bit more seriously.

Since I was young. Drawing was me and my dad time, writing was me and my mom time. My dad loved superhoroes when he was young, so I got hooked on comics. Pretty much been drawing just people forever.

Never taken any classes though, which I'm sure is why my figure drawing is mediocre, and I have no idea how to draw anything else.

Ive always tried to draw. Started to get really into it during high school. Had alot of friends in the art classes too. Just kind of went from there. But once I switched over to photography, and went to school for it, my drawings have kind of fallen by the road side. Would love to get back into drawing, but just dont have the time/patiance at the moment.
