Artist Challenge :: Enter At Own Risk
Shameless bump, but if you are thinking of doing a piece, let us know!
We all love anticipation!
Or, if you think this is a waste of time... let me know as well and I will return to my hole in the wall.
Just saw this post, sounds cool!
You might know, but I have an out of game character named Derek, would he work?
He's not *really* a superhero in tights or anything...
He's for a fantasy comic. Trying to get as good as I can at drawing him, and I have a scene I think might work.
I think so... The one I did is based loosley on the costume creator in CoH, I dont actually have a character who looks like him, he just fits the bill so to speak.
Plus, any style, any medium, do it up!
I am just intrigued with the balance of the whole thing... the mighter than mighty / holier than thou hero faced off with the seemingly endless pit of failure... two strong opposites that just have conflict written all over them. Strong facial expression, saddness, posture... but all wrapped up in your super glam hero... I hope others jump on, I'd love to see what some of the regulars here could whip up.
And maybe some of the not-so-regulars can explore themselves in this topic as well.
Who knows
I'll start on this soon
Hmm....tempted...but my art-fu is weak...VERY weak.
I think I'll contribute to this thread... but tomorrow... now... sleep!!!
Hrmm... intrigueing... Maybe...
This was done by Wooglebug who unfortunatly doesn't seem to post here anymore. This shows my main character going through a flash back of the time his powers manifested themselves and because he couldn't control them his parents were killed.
Farwielder Flashback
I'd like to give this a shot... I think most great stories of success are built around moments of weakness, and this a great chance to show that for some of our favorite creations!
Very interesting idea.
WOW! Awesome job Crimson!
I ant wait to see it completed... although, the unfinished look does add some charisma to the whole thing.
So very nice. Exactly was I was hoping to see from a talented crew like those in this forum!
Man. That makes mine look so sad, even though I haven't started it yet.
EDIT: Not sad, I mean badly done.
As promised...
Heres the rough sketch of my first attempt...
Sketch
And my VERY WIP with some digital coloring...
Hero Color WIP
I know its far from done. Just getting basic colors down, no fine tuning has been done yet. Then again, I dont plan on going gung-ho on the touch ups... I already have a another piece sketched out that I want to get scanned and put up.
Sooo, what do you think?

Oooh, I like it
That is kinda what I am gonna be doing for farwielder, which I STILL need to work on. I Haven't forgotten about you !
WIP...
That's Derek, if anyone hadn't guessed.
I had a bit of trouble with the position, he's lying on the ground with his arm reached out. I especially had trouble with the chest area, it doesn't look right.
Well, welcome to posting in the art forums Omen, and bit of intriguing idea there too. I decided to take a small break from painting to let my eyes readjust again and whipped out a piece for your lill' challenge here. Since I chose to draw my main, Absinthium, I really couldn't capitalize on the whole utter despair aspect (her hideously short attention span kinda prevents despair from really grabbing a hold of her...) I did get something down more in the "downtrodden, bested, but not destroyed" category.
In m'brain, I'm a hero!
And Jimson, man, Crimson's face is EXCELLENT! It really plows us over with his frustration and despair... great job 9as usual). That and the rigid looking headgear really help to add to the feel. Excellent!
And Omen, your's is coming along quite well. The figures shoulders and posture are great. Nice! I would suggest that, in the background, you make the moon a bit more hazy. There seems to be a lot of clouds in the sky yet the moon has a very crisp outline, it makes it appear to be in front of the clouds as opposed to miles and miles behind them
And Derek, the issues you might be having with the chest is that not enough is shown. It a persons head is held that far up, the chest will have to bend up more to allow the head to do that. As the chest it's self can not bend, that vend is going to come from the abdomen. All in all, this will allow a bit more of the chest to be seen... maybe about 2x what you have there.
Any time your having problems with position, try to mimic the position your self and, if at all possible, get your self a mirror to look in. Really pay attention to what your body is doing as well as what points have the most weight. Remember that when you sit back down to draw and really focus in on those areas where the weight was (those are the most important parts of the pose, all else will revolve around those areas. Get those places right and the rest of the figure should fall into place a bit easer.
I already did this a while ago, but for kicks, I'll repost it since it matches with the theme prefectly.

The Guide to BURN
I'll throw this up, drawn by Suichiro, colored by Ishy.

I really do love this piece, shows so much emotion <3 lots
Hrmm... I see what you're saying, Graver. Thanks, helps a lot!
So, so excellent folks!
I am so impressed at what everyon has put up so far, be it new or reposts, its worth it to see it again, or for the very first time.
So, I'm done with mine.
Graver, you are 100% correct with the moon, always was planning to address that issue, and now I have!
So, without further adue, I submitt my first finshed piece(s) to this forum. This is also a first for me as it was all done with a tablet, and it has alot of me getting used to it in the process.
I did 2 takes on it, one darker than the other, just a simple effect to tone it down a bit. but by looking at it for so long without, I decided I needed to post both, and let yo uall decide what looks best. Here we go!
Fallen (Lighter/Brighter)
Fallen (Darker/More Hazy)
I think the darker more hazy looks best it gives it more of a depressed look of sadness. I like the work so far guys if I was a decent artist id try myslef but I cant even draw my character lol.
As you see to the left, this is my first post here ever. However, like many, I have been reading this forum for as long as I can remember, and seeing some truely amazing artwork posted. I've been reading these boards for the last 2 years, and I finally had such a good idea that not only did I start it myself, but I truely wanted to see the range of those who post on a consistent basis here in the Art Forum.
My Challenge, if you choose to accept it...
Create a pic of your favorite character, or character from the game, or one that suits your needs, in utter despair. In every hero's life he/she faces challenges, and although we all like to think of ourselves as invinvible, there is always that crossroads, that darker side that cuts through the grandure, the light, and the triumph only to bring us back to Earth.
That moment that makes us a little more human, and a little less God-like. I know, I know, some of us are Gods, some of us arent from earth, but what I am looking to see is that weakness, that emotion, that bigger than life drama that can come from your art.
We have seen the rip roaring, faster than a speeding bullet, stronger than a locomotive, right from the make up chair to in front of the camera good looking hero (or villian) so many times. I would love to see the time where your hero doesnt save the day, or gets caught up in life, or has to take a moment to pause to reflect. Even Batman has his weaknesses, Superman and his Kryptonite. I am not trying to have your hero look less than heroic, but just batteling the odds and the odds ... won.
Beaten, downtrodden, bested, but not destroyed. Or that looming guilt of not saving everyone in the burning building, or that "one who got away" that plaugues them to this very day.
The possiblities are endless!
I am working on mine as we speak. Its about time I actually posted something in this forum, it seems to take up most of thoughts during the day anyway. Post as you may, as many as you'd like, in any form. I'll even toss in my WIP on Monday, its on my work comp at the moment.
Just a challenge, nothing more. Show us your range. Thrill us yet again.
