Completely OOC... Odd things you notice here!

I noticed that the boards are very flavor of the week. That there are posters that prefer quantity over quality, in that threads become ignored due to the latest new thread, that people are posting to so fast that they no longer have time for or no longer bother with the existing threads that they already had joined.

I find it annoying as well when everyone jumps on some new thread and suddenly two others end up dieing as the pool of players rapidly dries up.

Of course, it's not as if we have a bit consistent group. My old forums had one large group of players who only did one RP thread at a time. If you didn't want to participate you just didn't post in the RP forum for a while until that story ended and the next one did. However, that was a consistent group where we took turns being GMs.

Here though we have a lot more people with more varied tastes, so it is not surprising to have more than one RP thread running at a time. The problem is the Big Ones drowning out the others, which is a shame. I know some people have all the free time in the world but I don't so I have to limit myself to one story at a time, especially when GMing. The only reason I have anything to do with Bright Star is because I can come and go as a I please (due to absence of plot) and there were no pre-existing character relationships to deal with.

Blightlord does a sort of 'hammerspace' but his pouches draw out from his own Pocket Dimension.

Burning and Pstorm do something similar, but their pockets are very small in comparison.

I dunno...Reikoff and the other Malta always have a shaithload of weapons on them, but you can really strap up with about 10 weapons.

2 knee holsters, one knife in each boot, two waist holders, an underarm holster for each arm, and two (admittedly, they'd have to be light) rifles around your back.

Hmmm....I don't think I've done that yet. The only thread I haven't posted in was GToA which stopped cause Essex got all snooty and said she needed time .

An interesting theory, with one major drawback... as a government insitution Longbow is compelled to contract the lowest bidder.. result: cardboard tablecloth factory churning out plastic padded cloths. The fibers of those things itch like crazy...

Just something I've noticed:

Okay, when a character has a confirmed love interest something happens with those characters that are envolved with the relationship. One constantly holds onto the other for dear life for, what seems like, the entirety of the thread. Yes, I can see a guy holding his girlfriend's hand alot or just staying around her all the time but when the circumstances of the situation changes it begins to seem less realistic.

The reason I bring notice to this is because usually it affects how those characters interact with others(i.e. interaction ceases completely or slows to a crawl). I can think of two examples but you know who you are...

I'm sure you aren't talking about me.

Yeah, Hal tends to follow Essex around like some sort of green smokey shadow. But. I have an idea about this. Perhaps I shall posit it to Essex when she gets back. It might help the two of them split up occasionally in some threads.

Huh? What could have ever given you that idea?

I mainly bring it up because it usually hinders interactions between the cast of characters. Either that or I'm just jealous, you be the judge.

So who are you talking about then? Go ahead, name some names.

Posted

Do you seriously want me to do that? People already hate my guts....I guess it really wouldn't matter if I name names then...

Well, you could have posted it in the RP critique thread instead if you think it may have been more appropriate there.

Leo,

People don't hate your guts as far as you know.

XP Oh come off it, it's okay. That's what the thread is for, right? Just something to keep in mind -

There could be other reasons why RP interactions have slowed to a crawl. I know I, personally, have been a lot busier at work, and have unfortunately spread myself a little too thin between too many friends. I haven't been nearly as attentive to my RPs as I'd like to be, as multiple people have noticed and commented. For that, I'm sorry. It's my own fault for taking on way more than I can possibly keep up with.

((Hence my terror and frustration at GToA being revived. I'm really, really not ready to go back to GMing that yet. But the show must go on, I suppose.))

As for the love interest issue, it may also be beneficial to consider the characters you're talking about. I'm going to take Hal and Essex, because if they're not the example, they're definitely an example.

Hallucinogen has shown himself to be insecure and protective. I have seen him care for very few things aside from his own life, and even then not much for that. The fact that he actually cares for Essex makes it no wonder, to me, that he clings to her so badly. ((That's not to say he's not a great character. XP That's just what I see.))

As for Essex, well...Essex loves everybody. XD; She has quite a bit of knowledge, but essentially her lack of experiences in the outside world and with the complicated emotional processes she's trying to figure out gives her the mentality of a timid child. Children frighten easily and gravitate toward what they know will protect them - in Essex's case, it may be Hal, it may be Toy, it may be Acid, it may be Reikoff, it may be Pstorm. In fact, she really doesn't know where she stands with Hal - She knows she feels very strongly towards him, but is unable to identify and isolate the feeling.

Yet another thing to consider is the timelines. We have so many RPs going with the same timelines that it's really difficult to gague what we should know in which thread. Who we should be friends or enemies with, who we should be meeting for the first time, etc, etc.

I'anno. Just my ranty two cents. :P

If you got too much going on then let lie. When it died many of us joined other threads and dont have time for another even if it was once a great thread.

Less threads, or use different characters in different threads.

Great going HAL!

Seriously, Essex just copied... She simply went into the future, read the boards, and made her post before Hal made his... It was all Hal's idea!

Do I get a gold star?

What? Whadya mean 'only for babies'?! WAAAAAH!!!

I just returned to College after a two year hiatus. Monday through Friday I have Engineering Physics at 8am, Chemistry at 10am, and Calculus 2 at 1pm. Then I go to work for 3-4 hours (so my income has been reduced as I used to work 6-7 hours a day) and come home all tired and I'm lucky if someone other than me has to prepare dinner. That leaves me very little time to post during work breaks and in the college computer labs between classes, not fun when you're GMing a thread.

Which is why I only do one RP at a time. Bright Star is an exception as it's basically a 'What If?' thing and exists outside of the overall metaverse in which the other threads appear to be set in.
