Hi. I'm just looking for some opinions on my costumes. What you like, what you dislike, anything. I'd like to make these the best I can. I appreciate the help.

Costume 1

Costume 2

Costume 3

I actually like the 2nd one more than any of them. And then the 4th one.

Guess this thread goes to show everyone's tastes are different.

personally... I don't care for any of them. They're quite plain, and they strike me as the kind of hero/villian you see 2/3 times and you don't remember them 5 seconds after they leave.

They're just not STRIKING. I think the bold shoulders don't look well on the model.... and the color schemes are very bland. They just don't stand out in a crowd. There's no contrast there, no color, just nothing noticable or memorable.

Here's a suggestion... don't try to use EVERY costume peice. Most superheroes don't need shoulderpeices. Or eyepeices. Just as an example... sometimes less is more. Try livening up the color schemes a bit.

On the other hand, maybe bland was the look you were going for. Maybe this is just another feindish mercenary... not particularly unusual or extraordinary... maybe an average soldier from a hellish dimension or something.. if that's the case... then you did well. I suppose it IS hard to judge something when you don't know what the intent of the outfit is.

I've gotta say I don't like any of them either. My problem is that they're all kind of... messy. Except for the 4th one, which is just bland.

For example, the costume has: medieval boots, steampunk legs, buckled leather top, robotic arms, a simpler tech belt, very natural looking wrapped gloves, etc. And horns, a scarf, medieval shoulder pads, chest straps, It doesn't have much in the way of synergy at all. The third one has the same problem. The second one isn't as bad, but the colors are ugly.

You don't NEED to have EVERY costume piece, and I think it would behove you to pick a theme and stick to it. What exactly IS this character, anyway? I can't decypher it at all from the costume, and I think having that would help you immensely.

This character was part of the Paragon 40k SG back when it was still up. If you don't know what that was, it was some what of a Warhammer 40k theme, so the character needs to look some what rough and messy. I'd just like to make that rough and messy look good.

Ahhh... *now* I see what you were going for... you're on the right track I think... but you still need a more uniform look.

Might I ask; do you have a specific race in mind? (I'm *guessing* you were going for a Chaos or Space Marine-esque look?)

Well, the branch that I was in was called the Imperium of Chaos. I don't follow Warhammer at all, so I'm doing the best I can.

Hmm... I'm guessing Chaos Marine then... Aha <O_O> I have a solution for you.

That should take you to the gamesworkshop main page; then just hit WH40k; and click the Chaos army tab; there's a ton of stuff there - its not hard to make a WH costume once you get the source material ^^

I like 1 and 3. 4 is kind of generic (wish we had more accessories for the bottom half), and 3 looks like just another robot to me. The first could use different gloves and maybe one of the metal links belts. For the third, I'd pull some of the red from the top onto the bottom half (somehow...), and do something about the horns. They make it look like you're another generic demon character and I think take away from the rest of the costume (unless that's what you were going for).

Personally, I perfer a manga-esque look to the superhero chic. Most of the spandex outfits I see that people seem to like, seem very boring to me. I like the semi-frivilous accessories. It's hard to do well with the CoH character generator though. All your accessories are on the top half, so most of the time you just end up looking unbalanced.
