Consolidated Thread of RP Style Critiques

The only bad thing I can say Burning, and this applies to Essex as well, is that you still have a tendency to overextend yourself over too many story threads at a time.

In other words, did we really need another fight thread? --> points at Grand Finale

Momentarily swings cross-hairs at Laz.

Laz you have a mini-coalition with your characters in the AH. They are very close group with each other and it makes it difficult for outsiders to interact with them. Burning has this to a lesser degree with his coupled characters but that has improved and maybe fixed soon-ish. (Burning the fight scene with Pyra/Torcher was some of the best character development I’ve seen with those two).

The other thing is sometimes you update your characters one at a time. Now I am not saying monster post to update all, but you will update one without doing updates on the others. This is fine for some situations where you are waiting on a response from someone else but that isn't that case some of the time.

Arguably, if the 'missing' character is doing something boring does it make sense to update them? My view is yes because it keeps them from being forgotten or may give someone else an opportunity to create some interaction, and even if they are doing something boring a short and sweet update is all it takes to place them somewhere.

EDIT:: I was chatting with Laz via PM and he brought up some very valid points that I failed to consider. I also realized that some of my observations were based on my own bias, and that there is a different dynamic when controlling multiple characters versus when you are just writing for one.

It's more of a revived 'Blightlord's Revenge' thread, just Burning wanted to eliminate the 'must have met character X' thing.

And I think I'm going to regret this...

Characters

I'm using Grand Finale to flesh out a character I'm not really working on in the back of my head. Usually, I could just play the character in-game (I've been doing that with Matt McGinty lately, but I had to stop because I'm waiting for I-9 to hit... he and a bunch of others are at the brink of the late-teen arcs). However, since Simmy's based off one of my friends, it's somehow harder for me to imagine the character in-game. I guess it's because the guy is one of those down-to-earth types, so putting him in this fantastic stuff is too far a stretch for the practical part of me.

So, I figure if I throw him into a fantastic setting, and have to roleplay him, it'll help me develop his character in the back of my mind.

((I apologize if there's a lot of typos in this... The temperature is dropping here rapidly, and I really just want to get to bed and get to sleep. Fingers... so... cold...))

Devious you join too many threads.

You forget about threads and fail to post in them, and only skim through post often missing things and therefore never reply to items that pertain to you.

On the flipside, you were the only one with enough balls to official drop out of a thread, where others have stayed and halfassed it. Or even worse drop out but lack the courtesy to tell anyone.

So, any feedback on my first RP post in here? (see Shadow Manor thread)

I liked it a lot. :3 I like your writing style, it's very descriptive. You're very well-suited to storywriting. The only suggestion I would make, would be in RP posts to break up the paragraphs a little to make them easier to read.

I'm actually considering joining that RP...

Thanks for your input Essex I've always enjoyed writing, regardless of the game i'm playing. The fact that I've finally found a server with more rpers than anti rpers helps lol. I love the interaction with others because it gets my creative writing juices flowin'. I'd be thrilled if you joined in on the RP.

Thank you, HaloInc Much more to come from my side, and hopefully additions from others to furthery enhance the storyline

I agree with the others. Amazing writing style.

Only mistake I spotted was that you didn't really include rules.

Ok, lesse...

Halo, I really like your style, and all of your characters are fun to interact with. If I have to make a complaint, its that I haven't seen any of your 'villainy' villains yet.

And Laz, I also really enjoy reading some of your posts. The island exploration in AH was interesting, as were the Dominators. Now I just want to see how well you roleplay a male character for a change. No, Montressor doesn't count.

I starve my darkside on purpose. Back in the early years I played the evil thing, and as dark, twisted, morbid, and sick as things were then they dont hold a candle to Terminus's happy thoughts.

Okay, I may regret this- No, I WILL regret this- but I am putting the cross-hair on myself now.

I know I will take [censored] for the post in Sidekick Island about Experiment 5.0, but y'know, I deserve it.

However, I would appreciate a more focused view on my RP style than my OOC Emo-ness.

I really like a lot of your characters, Experiment, and you also have a really good talent for making me laugh. Doing that without resorting to dirty jokes isn't as easy as it used to be.

I have nothing but love for you, Prodiguy, and while I -did- see the post on Sidekick Island, hell...

...I'm an /artist./ <_< I get twitchy about people copying my characters, whether they mean to or not. Right or wrong, I certainly understood where you were coming from.

Besides, seeing your posts always makes me smile. XD

Okay... I am going to try this again.

: points cardboard crosshair sign at self: (Paragon University thread)

Sorry about removing my previous post; I was having a very bad day outside the boards and when I saw that I was supposedly being overlooked (in my eyes at that time) after posting my request I overreacted and pulled the post. I apologize for that. It's hard being the "new kid on the block" on these boards sometimes and that just hit me the wrong way that day.

Ashes to ashes,

Pheonyx, I'll be the "new kid" with ya. I've been an rper for years, but I'm new to CoH (been playing about a month) So even thought its still RP, it's a whole new community/environment to adjust to. So I'll see ya 'round :P

Okay!

I've been meaning to do this, so I took a look at the Paragon University thread.

Phoenyx -

You have a very consistent style. One thing that I've noticed about your characters is that you're very skilled at putting for the emotions they're feeling at the time. You're never unclear about how they are supposed to feel, and I can tell that you've put a lot of thought into them as well. They're very reactive. :3

The one thing I would suggest to you is to join more threads - the posts that I read weren't particularly actiony, but more dialogue and domestic sort of posts. Which, don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of such posts as they are essential for character development - but I'd love to see you shine in a setting where we can see how your characters react to physical threats, and express themselves in high-stress situations. :3
