I too am new... only been posting on AH101. Feel free to critique me as well.

Mechagogue, there are a few posters on the forums that I utterly fangirl over. They can probably tell you who they are, themselves, because I bother them nonstop. :P Soviet, Khell, Hal, Acid, Burning, to name a few...

You have also achieved Essex-Is-Your-Fangirl status, even in this short amount of time. Your characters are brilliant. Your writing is superb, and your dialogue is to the point, but still not blunt. Descriptive without being superfluous.

Join more RPs so I can find something to complain about!! XD Because so far you've got five stars from me.

Yes, honestly, Mechagogue, I have trouble finding something wrong with what you're doing, and I usually don't. I'm a hopeless nitpicker.

I like Kreigg in particular. . . He annoys the heck out of all my clever, logical characters of course, but *I* like him. His attitude is just so amusing.

So, we have one opinion on Blightlord, any others?

I normally like critiques on my character's themselves. Torcher and Pyra are a bit more difficult to do in a way, because the only way they really seem to work out, is when they're talking to each other. Torcher could care less about everyone else, and Pyra tries to make one or two friends, but isn't much on following through with it.

Halo - You have the one of the quirkiest characters I've come across lately... and she sometimes can make me smile and shake my head on some "Silly rabbit..." type stuff. You have a consistency about her thats almost uncanny... even with this twisting personality of lost and found identity. I wouldn't have the patience for her and her child-like innocence at times annoys the crap outta me, but thats what I get from it. Its a good character with a steady foundation...

Thanks Cuppaajin,

Looking for opinions on:

Shane/Meagan SH101
Ella*/Belize AV101 *more on Ella. Her craziness makes her the most fun to write sometimes, though she can be a pain, and her different sides very strange to an outsider viewpoint

Kia/Hali, FF They havent been in long but I am having fun writting the two opposite personalities. Is it hard to understand Hali? When I write her she has a french accent in my head, I am not sure if that is clear in my writting yet.

Well, as scared as I am, I am putting myself up for critique...

...Even though I know I am going to regret it...

...And most likely have my head bitten off for something I did ages ago that people were nice enough to keep inside...

...But, I suppose I will know what I am weak in specifically now....

Ugh, so tired... Cranky... Both, pershmaps... It matters not...

I have to write a French accent when 'borrowing' Harlequin from an SG mate. I always have trouble determining if what I'n typing is a French accent, or something like Victor Krum from Harry Potter...

I find Ella funny, especially whenever she learns a 'new word.'

Bah! You're actually one of my favorite posters. I love Experiment in particular, but Blind Messenger is great as well. . . I love the concept of Dr. Shimmer, but have yet to see too much of him. . . and Earth Titania. . .meh.

Anyway, you said once, I believe, that you were a writer, and I believe it. You have excellent character development, plotting, and general solid writing skills.

You could just have her ask Anna, she'd tell her. Though first she'd need to know which [censored] is it.

I can't be bothered to write accents myself. Originally Cobalt Stinger had a slight Russian accent but I dropped it as I never bother to try to portray it. I do have to watch myself when writing Montressor's dialog and proofread it every time to make sure I don't drop his gentlemanly way of speaking by accident.

I honestly don't like Earth Titania... He was one of my 'projects' for new character designs, and since I had not made an Earth using Tanker yet...

Eh, he didn't turn out very great story-wise. I do think I need to spend less time on 2.0 though...

For Hal... Awesomeness. Pure awesomeness. Unique, not only in power creation and personality, but Schizo's creation and what I know of his background.

Essex... Chirpy... Happy... Everything I am not in real life, and yet I love the character, mostly because of her innocence, and her devotion to her friends. And, as before, unique story, and awesome personality. And... Optimism much? I can not even imagine myself or any other characters being so... happy... Oh god, I need to see something black!

(In case you had not noticed by now, I am nothing like my characters. I am NOT, and never WILL BE, a happy, optimistic person. Just warning people who wish to have pleasant conversations OOC...)

However, I must now catch up with all of the RP's I have missed during school hours... Ugh... Away!

Wow. . .thanks! Dangit, I am SO bad at being complimented. . .

Oh, and I wouldn't say that you will NEVER be happy and optimistic. . . I could hardly call my life so far a happy one.

Indeed, I could probably call it a very unhappy one. . . but I consider hope to be very important. To shamelessly quote myself. . .

[ QUOTE ]
Hal smiled, and motioned Moonscribe through. "Don't worry about it," he said. "After all . . . no matter how deep the night, or dark the hour, there is always. . ."

And he looked back, for a second, at the Phantasm, now almost completely obscured by the waves of darkness surrounding it, yet still fighting, perhaps until the end of time, refusing ever to give up. . .

"Hope."

And the door closed behind them.

Off topic, perhaps, but something I had to say regardless.

Essex

My only real complaint (and it's not much of one) is using the Megaman X terms for the characters. That just throws me a bit and makes me suddenly think of side scrolling games, sweet, sweet, sweet, side scrolling games... I need to go play some now...

[/ QUOTE ]

This is a good point. D: The problem is, Essex originated in a Megaman X RP, so I'm not sure what other terms to use.

Any suggestions? I'm open. :P

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm... well, you could go with more generic terms like Androids or something. But I really don't know much you can do with it Essex. Sorry.

A few more so hopefully I'll get some feed back.

Hal, Cafea and Hal so far have struck me as a bit one dimensional. Hal's always sulking and Cafea is superior. Not nessacaryly problems, especially for Hal who seems to have hopes of getting his act together and Cafea, well, I don't know how long AOI will survive and the concept really isn't character growth, so I don't see too big a problem. I'm looking foward to seeing what you can do with these too.

Burning, my main complain is I don't know enough about your characters. They're all a mystery to me.

Leo, I really don't know what I can say about Ian. He's pretty well done. I just hope he stops insatiably asking for fights. Of course, I really don't like fight scenes and prefer other styles of character growth. So maybe it's just me.

That's all I can think of for the moment.

Cafea is fairly one dimensional in a sense. . . although part of that is that I haven't been paying attention to the thread. Too much time on my own Crown of Thorns project. . .

As for Hal, I don't know if you have followed him in anything but the SH101 thread. . . but if not. . . I think he deserves heavier criticism. So far, in that thread, he is just BORING.

I think he's doing better in, say, Cosmic Chess, or Crown of Thorns. . . problem is, he isn't very interesting when nothing is seriously wrong.

Fair enough with Cafea. And Hal, yeah I've been watching him, last I checked he was still sulking... Yeah, he's a bit boring. I really hope he gets interesting soon in the RP. No pressure.

And now, since all requests have bgeen ignored I'm going to savage myself.

Hermod, you're biggest problem is you inability to convey a story arc sucessfully. You let minor details play to big a role. Like that time you made the fact that those six circular buildings be used as improvised standing stones. It was a decent idea, but way to small a detail to make so important. You just can't let shocking the RPers involved play such a big role when it can completely ruin the story's outcome.

Come on everyone, feel free to savage me with baseball bats. I really want to know what my weaknesses are.

*takes out baseball bat and pwns Hermod*

Really, I can't think of much. You're characters seem pretty well developed, and I haven't been in any of your story arcs.

And I feel bad for you. That thread is over 140 pages in Word....

[/ QUOTE ]

Hey, I thought the standing stones thing was awesome. It made the entire arc come together and really made it one of the great stories from these boards that I remember.

I love how you incorperate other people's characters into your arcs, as in they play an important role in them despite not being yours, and I mean aside from just saving the day. You did that with both Cyba and Plasma Spate for me, and it made me super happy.

Though, just to get something bad in, you leave out Scaku's island accent when you write for him and don't have him stuffing enough things into his back as souveniers and regeants.

Leogunner, you write really well and your characters are all well put together and developed. The only thing that irritates me can't possibly be helped by you, because it's what your character revolve around. I'm just not a martial artist fan, to be honest, and that's really more of a flaw on my part that anyone else's. Like, when your character makes hand signals to deplete momentum or absorb shock or something like Ian's whole bokken mastery, it just has me thinking How the hell does that makes sense?! It makes total sense and you employ it excellently, I just prefer more classical comic book explanations, even if they're super far fetched and only make sense in a totally impossible manner. That's just my way of thinking, though, I really do love RPing with you.

Essex, I don't remember if I critiqued you yet or not, but I'm going to again. I absolutely love Essex's backstory, and Zealstorm is one of the greatest villains I've seen on these boards. Your characters are very fun, though Essex can be super predictable, though I haven't really put her in the situations I'm planning to really get her to do something unexpected.

Soviet, I'm not sure if I've seen enough of your characters for this, but it seems like you really lacked development. Ramier really never seemed to change whatsoever throughout the whole SV101 thread (let it rest in peace) and not a whole lot was revealed about him. Likewise, Prikker seems fairly trollish and not much else, which I'm really hoping you're planning to change through development as SH101 progresses. But don't think I'm all negative, you have a great writing style and wonderful characters. You explain things very well, though sometimes you seem to assume that everyone else knows as much about weaponry as you, and I'm stuck there wondering what's going on.

Feel free to point out my flaws, I know I have many, and I'm happy to hear what everyone thinks. I'm on year two of writing on these boards, and I'm hoping I can keep improving as much as I have from the beginning. Nitpick, I know I do. I'd also really love to hear what people think of Nurse Bastian, who is my drama character and can almost be embarrassing to write at times!

I'm gonna have to critique others before I get critiqued back huh? *winces* I'm no good at this... >.>

Okay where to start...

Billyboy: I like your characters. The Phillisbots crack me up, and Billyboy himself, it was easy to tell the type of person he was from the start. It's a good thing, considering the type of personality he has.

Essex: I can never seem to be rude to Essex in the threads without proofreading my post. Even Blightlord was slightly polite way in the beginning. The only character I have that I could ever imagine trying to kill her with would be Ruby.

As for Rosalind, she's always fun to read, and I look forward to when she's in Blightlord's class.

Soviet: Even if they seem two-dimensional, I still think the Trolls are some of the funniest characters on this board. The Trollspeak just makes it all work.

The only thing is, after everything Reikoff's lost, how have the leading Maltans not executed him yet?

Devious: Hmm... In the beginning, when you were first in Final Fight, it was interesting. Although technically nuking the Graveyard like you did was sort of powerposting, it all made sense. Now that you've toned down on that a bit, I have really no complaints, other than an inability to make sure I killed the right Acid, and not a clone.

And your descriptions are awesome as well. Like I've admitted, I know my descriptions could use work, and I have trouble determining if I'm going too far into detail and it's ruining the dialogue or slowing down the type of pace I like to generate in certain kinds of posts.

Hallucinogen: Schizo is great. And you do an awesome job of not going over the top with his powers, considering he's pure madness. He's also fun to read, like with the spider bit.

Hallucinogen may not seem like he's doing much in SH 101, but the other threads he has a pretty interesting personality, like with him and Essex.

I haven't seen your others chars enough to say much about them.

I'll try to critique others later...

It’s the power of youth! He’ll probably cool off when he’s older and married but as a teen he’s always going to be itching for a scrap but I try not to let that be the only part of his personality he exhibits. Besides, I’ve got a tanking character that *doesn’t* like to fight so it kind of evens out, right?

Anyways, here’s a few critiques but I’ll try to keep them short.

PlagueOfUndeath: Most of my recent experience with your posts is in Millennium Arena(which I’d suggest a few more people try out). It’s that and GToA(so not much to look back on although I kept up with AH101 up to around page 110) but I sense a definite theme for those characters. I can’t wait to find out the full extent of your characters’ powers but with the rate of your thread it might take a while. Sometimes when I read new info on the personalities of your characters I tend to say to myself, “Dang. I wish I thought of that,” so I might copy some of your stuff a bit(at least I will with my new characters). BUT....put some dang space between your paragraphs!

Pyrria: When I read your posts, I feel so....inadequate. You seem so well versed and knowledgeable which is reflected in your posts. Not to mention Susan is a dominator and I love dominators. But....you don’t post enough. I think I can forgive you for that though.

BurningBrawler: I wish I could get myself to read your bio thread but with all the other threads and school starting for me next week I doubt I’ll get around to it. You’ve developed an intricate universe for your characters and it’s all well written. I would write a ‘but’ but you have a nice diverse line up of characters, in concept, powers and personallity. I just need to get more in-game story arc knowledge to write/read at your level.

Hermod: I like that you go into detail about your stories and characters(mainly because I need the extra help to keep up). Keep up the level of detail, at least for my sake(I know I’m selfish so don’t remind me). It makes your posts interesting to read and I can usually rely on you giving a ‘why’ or ‘where’ to keep me on track(Hey, that could be a ‘but’ for Burning’s critique...not enough ‘why’s and ‘where’s for me to keep up....but that’s my problem I guess). But.....Hmmm.....you spell stuff wrong.....and I didn’t know if Alex was female or male until like 40 or whatever pages into an RP.

Hallucinogen: I don’t think your characters are two dimensional but in SH101 Hal can be a bit dull at times. I haven’t read Cosmic Chess at all so maybe he’s vastly different. If I were suggesting a change, just get him to mix it up a bit or hang around someone who will mix it up for him(you can PM whoever you buddy with). Okay.....I can’t really think of a ‘but’ except you’re not in enough of the threads I’m in(I know, selfish). I’m always jealous of your creative concepts(I really like Hal & Gabriel but still learning about Schizo).

Mechagogue: ....You’ll screw up eventually and I’ll say mean things to you and hurt your cat. So far, your track record is spotless. Character[check], Concept[check], Personality[check], Style[check].

Cuppaguy: I like your avatar. Seriously, I haven’t RP’ed with you enough but I still like Experiment 2.0 and heard you used 3.0 in Cosmic Chess(which I haven’t read). You keep your characters personality pretty well-rounded and their powers balanced. I wish I could join the RP thread you made but my characters don’t know yours well enough and I’m tired of using Ian in everything....maybe Jase? Anyways, you should open up your character to interact with others more readily(don’t even say that phrase “Practice what you preach”).

Halo: I remember when your posts were really difficult for people to read. You’ve come a long way since then and have nearly perfected description and detail. Meagan: I don’t know much about her personality yet but she’s developing well so far. Shane: I’m interested how his powers will turn out(will he ever control them?) and it’s enjoyable to read the difficulties he has but if Ian knew how nice and helpful Shane was all the time in that thread, he would attack Shane on sight.

Soviet: I’m probably the only poster that isn’t a fan of your trolls. I know it’s a style on its own but I just don’t get into it as much as the others. I can barely understand some of what they say, their actions and personality seem shallow but I like their concept and powers. Of course, your Malta characters are a joy to read. Those characters seem more developed to me and a long ways ahead of your trolls. But don’t hold back on my account. I’m still going to make extra efforts to interact with your characters even if I’m ignored a lot.

S-6: I like things that are cute, good, innocent and all that rot....seriously, I’m a 19 year old that likes stuffed animals(I like to act like I hate the world but I really don’t). I have a huge plush tiger on my dresser that I see every morning and my friends always give me teddy bears and what not. But even I have a limit. When I pass that limit, I want to break stuff but I will ignore that desire when I’m talking about Essex. In all seriousness, I think you're a tad too passive even as a GM. If you think something should happen, it should happen(kind of like you did in 24HV by getting everyone infected). Don’t let the other posters bully you(if Hyun-ki was suppose to kill that fake Zealstorm you should have FORCED HIM!). And whenever you start up GToA, please let Rosalind do something; if she doesn’t approve of something make her do something about it....I feel like I’m dragging her around against her will.

Oh, did I get a bit personal there? Sorry, just go back to ignoring me if you haven’t already. I’ll post a few more on my next day off.

PS: THANK YOU BILLYBOY! Finally, I feel like I’m getting insight on what people *Really* think about my characters. Thankfully, I only have four characters who do the whole hand-sign thing and one of those, Ryjuta, won’t be doing any fighting so I’m down to three. As for an explanation of their abilities, I can do that I just haven’t found a place to explain it besides making a whole new thread. I’m still looking for more opportunities to use my other characters like Phoenix-Archer, Star-Gazer, Flora-Thorn and Rend-Raptor.

PPS: Most of this post was in jest so you don't even have to read it.
