*Named Color Palettes for the Color Blind*
Wow.
I just happened to come across this, and I wanted to say what a cool gesture it was to put this together.
Can I ask if it would have been easier to use a cross-reference labelling system, like A1 (Black), P10 (Dried Pink Roses)?
Is it just a style choice, or the sequential numbers used for coding purposes, or (I think I just had an "aha!" flash) to help in shading?
Anyway, we have an alt SG where everyone has identical uniforms, and this will be a BIG help to any future members.
Well done!

Thanks!
Well mostly I just did a quick reference. I could just go back and number the colors 1-10 with and leave the Rows the same. It was mostly just a quick numbering system for the chart.
I can update it but I know there are people who may have linked or are using those numbers so I don't want to confuse anyone.
I've already created my CSS on the basis of A1-10, B1-10, C1-10, etc.
As long as the row number is on there, I felt, the rightmost is the only significant digit. Besides, when creating 160 explicit color tags, copy-n-paste was easiest. Although the CSS doesn't explicitly mention your color names, I mention them in my text so there's no confusion. For instance:

Most Galaxy soldiers appear in royal blue (L4). There is a dark V-shaped trim in navy blue (L2) down the front of the costume, with the Council insignia there in white (A10).

Hi Hurtz!
I have some pictures of Tsoo to send you later -- But I realize that you get the most pictures in a mission where you get more of the different bosses.
I'll one of my teen level toons has some contacts with Tsoo missions so I will have to get in there and take some pics. Or save up a mission with a lot of bosses.
Thanks for the post, I'm partially colorblind (green/red & blue/orange get mixed up alot)
Very helpful =)
Why send the screenshots? Just send me the color IDs. Tell me who's who and what colors they're wearing and I'll put 'em in.
I've been taking my screenshots outdoors in daylight. I figure that has the best chance of showing me the correct colors some missions, like in caves and abandoned warehouses, have special weird lighting that makes it hard to see.
I figured if any of the color-blind folks here wanted to help, they could help by taking screenshots, seeing as they wouldn't be much help in identifying the colors directly.
But you'd be able to identify those colors as well as anybody, right?
If you'd rather send the screenshots, I'll figure 'em out.
But wait! Now you can have something neat to look at.
Here's the color matching webpage!
Okay, it's just a start. And I can't figure out why Firefox and Mozilla will read the Cascading Style Sheets just fine when it's on my hard drive, but ignore the CSS when it's on the server.
I recommend using MSIE until I figure out why the CSS isn't working in Mozilla/Firefox.
How's about them apples (B17)? That's sort of what I had in mind. The basic HTML is just a series of tables with special <TD> tags identified by color, so all you gotta do is plug the colors into the table by their ID code and poof! You have a swatch.
Then you type in some smart-alec text to go with it, and next thing you know, Joan Rivers will be out of a job.
I'm back!
I've been working some more on putting up color swatches for the various enemies around Paragon. Now included are most of the Tsoo minions, a good number of Freakshow palettes, and some Warrior colors.
Go to the color web page to check out the latest updates. Let me know what you think!
Also, there are some enemies who have been given links, but for whom there are not yet pages. Those are still being worked on.
This is some really good stuff. I'm going to try creating a few toons with this site in the next couple days, and post some screenshots. Hopefully, since I'm (increasingly, it seems) strongly red/green colorblind, it'll give you some good feedback.
Yeah, I'm colorblind, and I talk about it a lot. Sorry.

Please do! And stick with new toons don't buy a new costume for your old toons yet there still may be some typos and revisions in the existing site.
I'm back! The Colors by Enemy should now include the Nebula and Penumbra Council, as well as the Sky Raiders and the Family. The Tsoo Ink Men listings now give a suggestion what color to use for the tattoos (even though it won't quite be exactly the same as an Ink Man).
Other corrections were added here and there as I spotted errors.
Oh. Em. Gee. I love you.
Babies plx.
Of course, I go home to try all this out last night, and my internet connection is spotty at best, and I can't get to the guide page OR log on to city of heroes for more than a couple minutes at a time.
CURSE YOU, COMCAST! CUUUUURSE YOOOOOU!
Yeah, I'm colorblind, and I talk about it a lot. Sorry.

It is time! I have created three heroes using the guides on the City of Color Consultants page! For those just joining us, I suffer from protanopia, and am typically guilty of making some fairly ugly costume color schemes, including a very grievous error involving Cyan. Without further ado, the costumes!
I started with something simple, in this case, the guide based on the Council Mek Man. A7 is the primary silver, and A1 the black secondary. I used B4 for trim, which, incidentally, I had to turn into bright blue while I was working for it to stand out. Personally, that dark of red blends in with black to me, so I just changed it to B4 AFTER setting where I wanted it.
Arachnos Prototype
After that, I decided to go with a more traditional Hero costume. The only powerset guide available was for Energy powers, so I made an Energy Blaster. This one was a lot harder, because the colors probably clash more than I realize. I'm using Energy Melee with Energy Blast III. Lots of J7 and B9 in here, and I tried to use enough J10 to divide it up. I don't think it came out as nicely as the robot above, but I might just be partial to silver.
En Ar Gi
Finally, I decided to be a little daring, and I looked for the most varied palette. Ah! Freakshow VI seems to fit the bill. Lots of black, sure, but also a couple colors I can't visually identify (O4, O5, G7). I used the description a bit more for this one, and only took a couple liberties on where exactly to put the colors... After all, Freakshow Supply Line is not a costume piece we can get. Oddly enough, I think this one came out the best, though I may have spent the most time on it. (Incidentally, there is a typo on the swatch itself, where the O5 section is labeled 'B5'. Reading the explanation of the swatch cleared that up, but it's something worth fixing.)
Spixe
Anyway, there you have it! Let me know what those of you who can really see colors think, and if your eyes bleed at all, it's not my fault!

Um... Hate to be a party pooper, but my graphics are actually completely maxed out. ... And FSAA doesn't work on my poor old PC. I can try to use my friend's PC to take more graphics-intensive screenies this weekend, but until then, this is the best I can do without hard locking CoH.

It may be worth noting that Energy blast sets and Electrical sets are different colors for heroes and villains. Hero powers have blue shades while villains have red shades.
Fault: I like the first and third costumes there. The second one (energy blaster) looks kind of washed out and pastel to me. Also kind of feminine, in that the color scheme would not look as out of place on a female character.
At first I thought you could just use a darker shade on the J-row, but after thought it isn't really the blue that makes it look girly, it's the rogue-ish pink (B9). I'd go with a light J-row color for a monochromatic look or a light grey tone instead. Energy melee is mostly white anyway, only the corona is noticably reddish.
Yeah, I don't think I really succeeded with the energy blaster, which is ironic, considering I really prefer the classic hero look for most of my characters. In retrospect, I don't really like those colors in general - They do look a bit washed-out. Using just J7 and B10 for the primary colors probably would have worked better, with maybe a darker B-row color for the trim on the shoulder-pads and for the emblem.
Yeah, I'm colorblind, and I talk about it a lot. Sorry.

I'm at work and haven't the access to check out your screenshots, but I'll look when I get home.
As far as the colors-by-power go, I stopped in the middle of doing Energy Melee because I'm going to have to think hard how I want to present those particular swatches, and what Energy Melee can match up to, and how to present the various combinations.
If I use the precise color of that power's aura as part of the costume which is certainly a valid choice I'm going to have to provide some very good descriptions on what effect you can expect from such a costume. All of the auras (saving only Dark) are pretty bright and not entirely appropriate for a whole costume by themselves.
If I use a color not identical to, but complementary to that power's aura, then I'm going to have to choose my colors very carefully.
Either way, I sort of need to re-do what I've got. Based on what I'm seeing in the swatches the developers themselves did, I think it'll be easier the second time around.
When I get a chance (Probably not tonight), I'll try going with the tights again with a different swatch. Maybe a Galaxy or something, and see what comes up. I think trying to wear 'Energy Blast' spandex might just be a bad idea in itself.
On the other hand, I switched my Main's electric eyes from row J to row M thanks to the bar of powers on your page, and I've gotten good comments on it. I'll try and get some screenshots, since the two colors I used look (to me) exactly the same. I'm starting to think power-colors, at least the exact color, could best be used for auras, rather than costumes.
That said, the enemy swatches so far seem to be working out really well. In fact, I might have to make Arachnos Prototype into a real character now. 8P I already won a costume contest with him while I was waiting for day to dawn and to get a good screenshot. ... Yes, I only later realized I could just walk into City Hall for good lighting.
Yeah, I'm colorblind, and I talk about it a lot. Sorry.

Just an FYI: www.vischeck.com is a site that has a few examples of pictures from the viewpoint of color-blind people as well as a program to alter pictures for people with color-blindness. I find it very useful in explaining how my color vision works.
As another color-blind person, I'd just like to add and thank you and good job for making this. Will defintely be getting some good use out of it.
It's me again. I'm still working on getting some web pages put together that will show the framework for what I'm doing, and I've begun naming some color swatches from some of the existing enemies.
I created a Cascading Style Sheet that names all the colors (A1 through A10, B1 through B10, etc) and assigns the proper color to a <TD> table background-color tag. All I have to do is insert the color reference and boom, I can create a swatch table in seconds with the colors listed as they appear on Altoholic Monkey's chart.
I've also gone through one or two zones and taken some screen shots of Council, Prisoners, Freakshow, Warriors, and Tsoo. The color swatches for Prisoners and Council have already been assembled. When I get some more done I'll put up what exists of the web page so you can see it, or so others can toss in their contributions.
