Fire/Dark Corruptor: Do you Debuff?

OK, I've got a question. In the build you posted you've got Fluffy slotted with 3 recharges. Is that required in order to perma him or is that just so you can have him out more often if he dies or to use him as alpha absorption?

It must be in order to be able to have him out for alpha´s, cause he is perma "out of the box" (duration of per= recahrge of power)

Best regards
Poul

Not true for Corruptors, from what I've read. They have twice the recharge on Fluffy that defenders have. Same with MMs.

Thank you CardboardTube (great handle, btw )

Yeah, the recharges in Fluffy are to have him out as often as possible, because, as you can see, I don't have Hasten on the Scion and don't plan on taking it.

Fortunately, though, between Fluffy and my Fortunata pet (Yay Ghost Widow!) I should never be totally without a pal in my ventures of evil

Well my fluffy is ready to cast teh second he times out, so either you have been misinformed, or else my fluffy is bugged, because i havent put any recharges in it.

The effect of the -regen effect on high-HP foes (AVs, giant monsters) is obvious and well-known. Spamming TG on such a foe is an excellent aid to those attempting to defeat it. It is also incredibly obvious in PvP. Debuffs to regen rate are against the base value, meaning that no matter how much +regen a character has you can floor their regen rate if you stack enough of this on them.

Not only that, but at high levels when you can slot him up, he's a pretty significant toHit debuff on his own. Since he has ranged attacks, he likes to stop at a distance from foes. If you can recast him more often, this improves how often you can drop him smack on top of people for the double benefit of soaking the alpha and stacking another debuff on them.

A couple of notes from my experience withmy lvl 40 fire/dark. I take speed instead of fly for 2 reasons. One is hasten 3 slotted is still better than no hasten at all. Two is that ss + shadowfall is the same as invis from concealment pp. Only things that will see you are rikti drones, nemesis snipers, and some carnie bosses. Then I skipped ht and aim for recall friend and tp. I have never missed the rez or the disorient from ht and with tp I can stealth missions which i find invaluable.

Also Nemesis suck because they are fear resistant (found out the hard way) And wolves and carnie strong men act as if there is no tar patch at all.

My favorite tactic is to herd entire missions onto a single tar patch using darkest night and then rof. Rof is not limited by aoe limits. Set dn on a mob at the end of the mission then kite him and all his buddies back to the front of the mission where youwill quickly lay a tp. Back around the corner til well mired. Pop a red, fear em and lay down the rof. Alternate other aoe's til all are dead. Very gratifying.
Hope it helps.

I hadn't ever thought of that tactic...wow!

Of course, having been stuck at level 33 for a few weeks now, I haven't had experience with the higher baddies in CoV yet...so your info on fear is greatly appreciated!

Wow! Just Wow! I tried this DN kiting technique after reading it here. It's excellent.

Going the Hasten, SS route is less painful now that you earn temp flight and jump packs in the Mayhem missions. Since you're already taking fitness, SS and hurdle will get you most places since you can run sideways up a wall. I only pop my temp flight power to get over a really nasty gap or get way up high. I think I've had both the flight and jump packs now for 4-6 levels and they aren't even half used.

Aurora Girl, I see you dropped Air Superiority and took Hover. How come? I like the KB of AS. Did you find that you didn't use/need it as much? Do you normally hover, instead?

I have AS on a lot of my heroes, and I like the KB for defense. I don't hover a lot in battle. If I need some height, then I'll Fly. I'm really new to villains, though, so I don't know if it's different for a corruptor.

Posted

Well, I am a hover-er by nature (so is AG, 3-slotted and 2-slotted Swift), and it makes it easier for me to position myself for Fearsome Stare and Tar Patch reapplications, not to mention a better view of the battlefield as a whole.

Besides, Hover (as we all know) is cheap, very effective Knockdown/Back protection. If I, as a Fire/Dark, am relying on melee-knockdowning a boss to be safe, I'm doing something wrong.

First of all, great guide!

I would just like to point out the fact that RoF is slotable with Acc enhancements. "But Mai_Tai" you might say "RoF is a constant stream of damage as is.." well let me tell you a single acc slot will do WONDERS for RoF.

Just thought I would point that out.

Oh, and you are so right about the heal Aurora, i am pretty much single handedly getting my SG's healing badges from playing on full teams most of my career...../fire eat your heart out!

So, seeing as the guide's more than 14 months old, but I can't get in-game to fix anything, is there any way someone can fix stuff that may have changed since I went to boot camp?

The Fire/Dark Corruptor does more than look good on paper (or even in a Planner). It is mass destruction awaiting your activation. There are a few changes from Issue 10 to take advantage of Invention Origin Enhancements and the Status-Resistance changes, but Aurora Girl's guide can be used nearly as-is out of the box.

Be aware that the post-40 game is not the same as the pre-40 game. The changes to your foes abilities makes them far more dangerous than their pre-40 counterparts. Status effects such as Sleep, Hold, and Immobilize can be hazardous when pulling 2-3 spawnsets at a time. IOs slotted into Shadowfall help mitigate these effects, but a de-toggled power is still a power that has to be restarted. Be aware of what your enemies abilities are and be prepared to deal with them. With that in mind, keep the following floating around in the back of your head if you desire to use your Fire/Dark for mass pulls and intense destruction:<ul type="square">[*]Carnival of Shadows' Strong* foes are immune to Tar Patch's Slow FX.[*]Council Warwolves are immune to Tar Patch's Slow FX.[*]Nemisis robots having more than 2 legs are immune to Tar Patch's Slow FX and Fearsome Stare's Fear FX.[*]COT Fire/Earth/Ice mages [u]will[u] run from a Tar Patch/Darkest Night combo, but can be tricked into bunching up for AEs with proper pulling with Darkest Night/Fearsome Stare.[*]Most Arachnos robot types are immune to Tar Patch's Slow FX.
With the above problems out of the way let us cover what capabilities the build does have as it's strengths:<ul type="square">[*]Massive Aggro Magnet[*]Selection of multiple AEs for heavy multi-set destruction.[*]Several Soft Control abilities to assist in multi-set pulling.[*]Extreme healing ability with a delay in activation.[*]Maximum Scourge potential.
The I9-compliant build below (some adjustments for the I10 status IO changes have to be made) is designed for heavy DeBuff, mass pulling (herding), Soft Control, and destructive ability. Pre-40 you may well scare some Brutes when you return to the Team with 20-30 foes nipping at your heels. Fear not, you are quite capable of soloing all of them at once if you use proper pulling techniques. Post-40 you will find some difficulty dealing with Malta Hold/Slows in mass quanities; avoid them if possible, Break Free if not possible.

The Speed Power Pool is used to improve recharge rates and combine with Shadow Fall for quasi-Invisibility. While a Stealth IO is specced into the build the current Market costs could prevent those players not made of Infamy to have difficulty in aquiring a Stealth IO. Super Speed/Shadowfall as a combination allows Infamy to accrue until such a purchase can be made while providing the same game mechanics effect.

While on the subject of overpriced IOs you may note that the AEs are specced predominently with non-Positron IOs. Taking into account the currently exceedingly high prices that people feel they should get for Positron IOs and keeping in mind that there are many powers from various ArchType power sets that have a demand for Targeted AEs using an affordable alternative works just as well without the need for a level 50 Infamy farmer to support the character IO costs.

When solo the build performs exceedingly well utilizing a Super Speed/Shadowfall movement; Darkest Night to pull multiple sets; Tar Patch at a Line Of Sight blockpoint; Dark Servant to aid Debuff/Immoblize; Fearsome Stare to limit attacks; Web Envelope to prevent movement; Aim; Fireball; Fire Breath; Rain of Fire; cleanup as needed with Fire Blast, Blaze, and Blazing Bolt. Yes, a Snipe used for cleanup. Fully slotted it will have a 1.47 second interrupt time which is shorter than the animation time making it a viable part of an attack chain. Unlike previous suggestions in this thread Rain of Fire is used [u]last[u] in the AE portion of the attack chain. This allows Rain of Fire to often hit foes that are at less than 50% health; thus generating an increased number of Scourge opportunties. Used in this sequence the damage rate of Rain of Fire is often 150% or higher than if used at the beginning of the AE portion. Since Rain of Fire is your heaviest

While teamed much of the above applies as long as you keep in mind that the majority of PickUpGroups are invariably locked into the RunAndGun mentality which leads to a slower DPS/exp/inf rate over time. Adjust your tactics accordingly using single target attacks to conserve END as needed and expect that you may have to actually use Twilight Grasp to heal people instead of it just wasting space in your Power Tray.

Prefered Team Combinations with the build include, but are not limited to: Brutes with Taunt and AE Damage Fields to grab Alphas during heavy herding. Status Resistance buff Corruptors for the post-40 era to mitigate the Hold/Slow/Sleep effects of foes while herding.

I've read up quite a bit on Fire/Dark Corruptors and I must say I really think yours is the best guide AG, also I rather enjoyed your input as well All Star. For whatever reason I've really had a fascination with the Fire/Dark Corruptor and using the information I learned here I came up with my own build and I was wondering if I could get some criticism/speculation on how this build would perform, I'm only at lvl 8 now and already I love the sheer AoE madness, though I do always feel somewhat lacking in the single target department, but that's to be expected, I suppose getting Blaze eventually will really help it. Also, being usually a blaster or tanker (CoH is all I used to play when I played a year ago and before) I've never delved into the Teleportation pool and I feel like I really want to try it with this my first CoV toon... with all that in mind... here's what I came up with:

Villain Plan by Mids' Villain Designer 1.21
http://www.honourableunited.org.uk/mhd.php

Level 48 Natural Corruptor
Primary Power Set: Fire Blast
Secondary Power Set: Dark Miasma
Power Pool: Teleportation
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Flight
Ancillary Pool: Soul Mastery

Villain Profile:
Level 1: Fire Blast -- Empty(A)
Level 1: Twilight Grasp -- Empty(A)
Level 2: Tar Patch -- Empty(A)
Level 4: Fire Ball -- Empty(A)
Level 6: Rain of Fire -- Empty(A)
Level 8: Fire Breath -- Empty(A)
Level 10: Darkest Night -- Empty(A)
Level 12: Recall Friend -- Empty(A)
Level 14: Teleport -- Empty(A)
Level 16: Swift -- Empty(A)
