I've gotten this badge on a couple of different toons now. Once by the way described here,
preventing Paladin's construction. But I've also gotten it when a team I was on ran across
him AFTER construction. He was jogging through KR with a bunch of various Clocks with him
so we took him out, and voila! Badge.

Sounds like a bug...

Though it could be some obscure change that was never patch noted. *shrug*

I've run across Paladin alot on Liberty server. What I've noticed, and this might not be the case on other servers, but I've noticed that usually after Paladin gets beaten, either the construction or the fully built version. he'll spawn again about five hours after the time he got beat. Not sure if this is actually the case, just something I've noticed a few times after beating him.

I also got this thought that Babbage is linked to the paladin spawns as well.

I know Babbage is in boomtown, but what I mean is, I think he's linked to when Paladin spawns.

Meaning, if paladin spawns and you have someone in boomtown checking out babbage spawn points, that he'll be up. That's how I got Babbage, got him the same day I got Paladin, a few minutes after beating paladin actually.

I'm not sure if this is the case either, just that when ever I see paladin up, if I run to boomtown I usually see babbage too.

I don't know about all that. I brought my blaster out of retirement to go badge hunting recently (which means ALOT of hunting since I got to the level cap before badges were even freaking introduced) and just today I found the Paladin construction site. Prior to that however, I was in Boomtown (for whatever reason) and found Babbage standing in a corner on the northest side of the zone. Noone seemed real interested in taking him down, so I decided to head over to KR and camp for the Paladin construction spawn. I was just standing next to the sphere silo when an MC just appeared right out of nowhere about 5 feet away. So in this case, Babbage had spawned before Paladin.

Therefore I'm inclined to believe that there are no indicator's for giant monsters. I've now hunted down the Kraken, The Zeus Hercules, Adamastor, Paladin, and Lusca (and have seen several others at various points). Thier apperances are 100% random, period. No timelines, no amount of interraction with NPC's, no triggers, nothing. They spawn when the game feels like making them spawn. That's it. You are either lucky or unlucky with finding these things. That's about all there is to it.

Actually, if you mean the Kronos Titan, that is triggered. It's an ambush from a story arc.

I've read repeatedly that players don't influence monster spawns, but here's my experience nonetheless:

[1] It seems that every time I'm leveling up a new alt and I do the 'Lou the Mechanic' story arc, I'll be running those missions in Kings Row, and a Paladin siting will come in. Coincidence: Probably.

[2] Me and my SG have 3 characters we only play together, on a team. We were in KR doing the bonefire arc and we thought we'd check for the Paladin. We get to the site and he's not there, just the usual "appear out of nowhere" spawns. However, those spawns happened to con white to use (yellow lts, etc), so we decided what the heck and started fighting them. After about two had died, presto, Paladin construction begins. Sure, it could be a remarkable coincidence, but I get the feeling that if we hadn't engaged those guys nothing would have happened. As someone who has repeatedly checked the spawnsites (usually after I get travel powers) solo, and as someone who has engaged the spawns on repeated occasions, I was suprised he appeared. It makes me wonder if the team all being present and the spawn being that level didn't have something to do with that construction.

Ofcourse, it's quite possible that all monster spawns are completely random. However, it's also possible that it's tied to a storyarc or mission, or tied to a set of conditions like team, level, etc in the area. Were I a dev who had set up such conditions to simulate randomness, I'd not make them public.

I'll believe Lusca is random. Randomness explains 3 spawns at the same time.

I spent a several weeks running patroling the spawn points in KR for Paladin. Never saw him getting built, but i always saw the broadcasts "Paladin is running around, teams forimg pst!"

After this happened several times repeatedly, i finally sat down at my computer with a bag of chips and and can of Pepsi, and patroled the spawn points for 6 hours straight. Almost 7. Move from one spawn point, go to the next, check the last, rinse and repeat. I was going thru this loop when i rounded a corner and saw Paladin almost being built...

I got the sucker. With the help of an sg member responding to my frantic screams for help thru coalition chat....

Essentially, id guess that it takes about 5 minutes for Paladin to get constructed all the way. So you gotta be on your tip toes.

And what the guy said above, ive noticed that too. Seems to spawn every 5 to 6 hours. Cant count the number of times ive missed him....

And ive always found him running around late at night too...

I have to agree with this. Yesterday I was doing a marathon sitting and I got Pumpkin King (Eochai) and Devil Fish (Lusca) in the morning. I'm in the habit to check the fire spawns in SC and the Paladin spawns in KR everytime I have to enter those zones. In the late afternoon I was on my way to some random mission and someone on the Freedom Monster channel broadcast that Babage was up in Boomtown so I headed that way. We (three of us) killed Babage and got the badge. My next mission was in KR so I leave Boomtown and head to the southern tram in SC and notice a building on fire. I start fighting the fires and after about 2 minutes there is another broadcast on Freedom Monster channel letting us know that there is a Paladin build in progress in KR. I abandoned the fire fighting and high tail it over to KR. There's probably around 20 peeps just kicking the build sites butt and I get on one of the teams. We fight for about 15 mins, then everyone got the badge. It was sweet.

Anyway, I also believe that Babage in Boomtown and Paladin in KR are somehow tied to each other. The next time I see Babage is up, I'll help kill it, then go straight on to KR to see if Paladin spawns.

I hope I'm right about this and not wasting my time, also I hope no one else wrote this, but I think the Paladin Spawns about 3 or 4 times a day. I remember looking for it, giving up, then about 12 hours later I came back to KR after a few missions and someone Broadcasted there were two Paladins running around, which made me feel better since I didn't know if one being spawned affetced the next. So, a couple days later I go to KR, hoping and praying, and about 9:25 p.m. EST comes around and who pops up....that's right, the Paladin Construction site. I get the badge with a couple of people with a full built Paladin apparently still running around. I'm so happy I take a break. Then, at around 4:20 a.m. EST, guess who pops up again. So that's about a 7 hour difference. I could be wrong about being off for 12 hours, it could have been more. All I'm saying is, I think it spawns every 7 hours or so. I won;t be able to wait another 7 hours because I'll be asleep, just something to think about I guess heh Good luck all!

...though I could be wrong and it really could be completely random.... :P

It has been nearly confirmed by various monster hunters that monsters tend to have a timer, that has a +/- 1 to 2 hour variability. So, a monster that spawns every, say, 5.5 hours, could "randomly" spawn as early as 4.5 and as late as 6.5, while something that spawns say every 12 might spawn as early as 10 hours and as late as 14. I don't have any of the hard information on this, but I've heard this from a number of moster hunters, and tend to believe it based on experience.

So, if I were to hunt Paladin, I'd try checking every 6-8 hours?

According to the new Official Giant Monsters Guide the timer for Paladin Construction sites is 1 minute to 36 hours.

I've often wondered about this as I've seen Giant Monsters respawn almost immediately after killing them more than once. The first time, about a year and a half ago, we just got finished defeating Adamastor and another group shows up all upset that they missed him and *POP* there he is again, just a short bit after the old body disapeard.

'k read the whole thread and I have a question: Does anyone know how long the construction takes without any hero interference? In other words, how big or small is the window. Is it 60 seconds every x (random interval) or 5 minutes or what. I do three or four laps around the spawn sites every day I log in, and have been for weeks, and I've yet to see the construction site.

I *highly* recommend reading the first post in this forum. Very good, very accurate information and the pictures are priceless. Check Vidiotmaps too for the spawn points - though you can find them on your own with a little looking in the places IanTheM1 tells you.

I've played for 2 years and 4 months with my only lv 50 toon, a blaster, and I got the badge tonight 'cuz I'm a badge... hoarder. I got curious and went looking for him off and on today.

Things I noticed:
1) First off - it's true. There is NO way for a hero to prevent the spawn from ever happening. There is also no way to forcibly trigger the spawn so that it does happen.

Well... not exactly. Since there's three spawn points I'm guessing there's a limit of 3 Paladins in the zone at one time. Maybe, maybe not. But if you down one, that opens up a GM potential in the zone.

2) Paladins tend to get stuck close to the Galaxy gate in KR, about 350 yds south of it. My opinion is that they migrate there on purpose. This morning there were two Paladins roaming there. This evening, there was one there. I don't know if it was one of the same ones from this morning. I didn't check the serial number.

3) I watched Clocks spawn at Paladin spawn points and immediately start running. Where the heck were they going? I followed them, literally as in +follow, to a Paladin's location. Which was near the Galaxy gate up in north KR.

So while kicking it solo around that area near the Galaxy gate, I killed Paladin. Sort of.

Then I checked sites.

Then I scrambed to find a team, because construction must have started at one site while I was checking the other two. Luckily I found one person willing to take the star and build up a team while I held down the regeneration/construction of Paladin.

The linchpin to this? Put 1) and 2) together. I was solo and wanted to get construction started on a new Paladin. I started sniping Paladin to lead it where I wanted it to go. Which was to his death so I could get a new spawn. I was near the Galaxy gate so I led him there.

I droned Paladin and I'm not ashamed to admit it. I got the frickin' badge.

Nice!!! The drones are our friends!!

I think the construction takes about anywhere from 5-15 minutes, not to long but not too short.
