Stu stood infront of the Hero Academy and couldn't remember for the life of him what he was doing there. He opened the book in his hand and went straight to the bookmarked page. "Lets see here. Wake up, did that." He read to himself. Take shower, brush teeth, get dressed, make sure clothes match by checking in mirror, so far so good. Walk two blocks south and have breakfast, don't remember that, but I got it checked off so I'm pretty sure it happened. Get on train to Galaxy City and go to Hero Academy. Hmmmm, I need to remember to write down the whys, oh well. What should I do now?" He pulls a pen out of his pocket and turns the page to continue writing. He then realizes that he had further instructions for himself there. "The darn bookmark musta moved on me. What do I need to do now? Go inside and register." he thought. "Ok, lets do this. he says determinedly to noone in particular.

He walks up the steps and enters the building. Looking around he notices a receptionist. " Pardon me, could you tell me where I am?

Like a wave, the psi energy receded and Akazi regained some of her composure. She felt another mind trying to pull her emotions and quickly threw up a psi-barrier. It would attempt to keep out any psychic energy...harmful or otherwise.

She didn't often do this among heroes, but something had just mentally sniped her and she needed to find out where it came from.

The man standing above her asking what had happened looked concerned, but something about him made her very nervous. "Nothing. I sometimes get bad migraines out of nowhere." she said quietly. "I'll be ok in a few minutes."

------------------------------------------------------------------

Pad'ul crouched down behind an air conditioning unit on the 30th floor of the insurance building. From his vantage point he could see for several miles in almost every direction. The antique Zeiss binoculars were good for quite a distance. He really didn't need them for his target, but seeing the look on her face was worth more than his payment. He was instructed to give her a taste of what was in store. His bandaged wrapped hands picked up the Zeiss and adjusted the optics. The girl was being assisted by others, but she got the full effect. He sat back and smiled a toothless grin and pulled down the ratty cowl shading his red pupiless eyes. He made his way down the fire escape and back to the sewers, away from the heat of the rising sun. "We'll be seeing more of each other soon half-breed...very soon."

Psyosis recoiled from the shock of being forced out, "You must be very powerful psychic to do that." He smiled warmly, he was here for two reasons after all, one to check up on Alan and to do a little head hunting for Hero Corp. "I'm sorry, I must have startled you. I'm Psyosis and I'm an empath. You can drop your barrier, I'm not going to hurt you, I'm just going to help with the pain." He looked at the other hero, "Thanks for coming to help her so quickly, but she'll be fine in my hands. I give you my assurance that I know exactly what I'm doing."
He knelt down next to the women and closed his eye, he could see everyone else's emotions except hers, it was like a black void, he could only tell where she was by the lack of felling. Either she wasn't very good or, more likly, she did it hastely. "You can check if I'm lying if it would make you fell better, I promise that I only want to help, it's my job to help people." He reached out with his mind to see if she would drop the barrier and let him take the pain away.

OOC:Sucks that I can only post in the mornings and at night. I get left behind a lot.

----After Alan had kicked him----

"Strong Kick there Alan, you seem a bit tense though. Don't let anger get the best of you. That goes for everyone. The key to taking a hit, or even a bullet is to focus on your overall goal. I don't mean your goal for the fight, I mean for your life. My goal is to be accepted home again. So everytime I fight I focus on my goal and you can't keep me down. Even when an opponent shoots me while I am not using my armor, ol' chaps, even if I bleed, I will finish what I have started."

Raymond continued to talk of self defense for a while after that...

----Now----

"Its all our jobs to help people...However you should take the barrier down, you need healing whether we know this chap or not. Speakin' of which, Psyosis, where are you from, and what brings you to our group on this fine day?"

OOC: What times do you all generally post?I want to know when I can actually stay a part of whatever is going on. I only post at like 5:30-5:45 CST or anytime from 4:00-11:00 CST.

Psyosis smiled at the British man, "I'm from Hero Corp and I came by to check on Alan..."
"I bet you did, you two timeing bas..." Alan started
"It was for your own good, trust me on this." Psyosis tone was very cheery and clearly not what made Alan stop, Alan stopped mostly because this man was his only ticket to freedom. He had to give Alan a clean bill of mental health. "As I was saying Raymond, I'm from Anarbor Michigan until I joined Hero Corp. And I agree, it is a heroes job to help people, the differecne is I get payed for it, only way I could make it as a full time hero." He said cheerfully, Alan snorted. He turned back to the women he was helping. He tried again hoping she would trust him.

(OOC Note: I post when ever a computers handy and I don't have anything else to do.)

((OOC: Oops. Sorry Hermod, I went back and read what I wrote. Made her sound like P®ofessor X. lol I edited it back down to normal limits.))

Akazi eased up a bit and let her barrier down. The others would come to her defense if something went wrong...after all...she was here to build trust in others. The pain subsided soon after she accepted the psychic's help. She felt much better and hoped the attention would shift off her soon. She took to heart what the Brit had to say. Her goal would be to trust others...but not blindly.

((In response to Lord Raymond. I am able to post a lot due to my work schedule.))

Raymond took a look around the group.

"Eegads, our number have grown larger than I recall, and I haven't even introduced myself," said Lord Raymond as he bowed low. "I am the Courageous Majestic Lord Raymond, or just Lord Raymond. I am a member...former member of the British Royal Family. I was incharge of a large portion of the military as well 8th in line for King. I was at a presentation of new technologies by Crey Industries, when an item "malfunctioned" and exploded killing all except myself. The explosion gave me bizzare abilities including, flight, the ability to travel without friction, teleportation of friends, and the power to command the earth to rise up around me. When my family saw me they were disgusted, I had not realized that the explosion had also made me very short and badly disfigured my face. Not to mention how upsetting the powers were to my family. Then they banished me and I came here to regain my honor and to regain my family's love. This is my story. What is yours?" finished Raymond, motioning to the newcomers to tell him there stories.

Janice heard the girl cry out, and had turned toward a small knot of recruits gathering around her. From what she could gather, she had some sort of spell, fainting or nervous. She was familiar with that sort of problem, she thought of a bottle in her room, small white pills she took three times a day.

Having a good vantage over the other shorter recruits, she saw that the young woman was conscious, speaking. It didn't look like there was any need for her to add to the crowd, and the only person that seemed to understand her, the airborne guy from the other day, was amongst the crowd. It seemed he had picked up a tail anyway, so she would probably be on her own.

That was fine, she was used to it. Hard to lose what you didn't have. She squared up with the bag, warming up with basic movements, slow and deliberate. She was wondering where the instructor was, or at least someone from the academy, but maybe they had given Raymond some latitude, he seemed pretty proficient.

((OOC: Ma has no mental powers of defenses, and is dubious about all the mind powers. She can't deny their existence. but is more grounded, believing in what she can actually see. She generally doesn't hide much, ask the question and she will answer, so mind readers don't really worry her.))

As Celes watched Raymond and Alan, she noticed two men walking towards Radon and herself. Her eyes nervously scanned the furry man and his companion. Her heart began to pound slightly as they walked up. She bit her lip nervously as she glanced at Radon. She looked back at Embher. She could tell he was ex-military. He had that gait and air that cried trained warrior. All of her father's men walked like that.

As he introduced himself to Radon, she bristled when he mentioned 'kid'. She slightly frowned at Embher. She turned and met eyes with Tigonus. She study him with a friendly look. She smiled shyly at him, an almost slightly nervous tict.

He must understand what it is like to be physically different. she thought to herself.

Another man with brown hair and wings(?) joined the four of them. She glanced at him, eyebrow rasied suspeciously. She 'switched' her vision to stare at Pysosis. No,no he isn't an angel or a demon, she released the breath she was holding. She was about to introduce herself to the three newcomers when the other cadets started shouting or something.

Hearing the comotion, Celes peered around the furry man's side. She noticed a group move around something. It looked like a woman was on her knees. A shiver ran over Celes as they crowded the young woman, her form being lost in a sea of cadets. She touched her life force breifly and was able to tell she was not physically hurt. Celes put her hands into her pockets as she watched, a shiver running over her. Celes felt sorry for the woman, being surrounded by all those people would make her claustrophobic.

She glanced at Radon as she blushed slightly. Being confronted by these new people, she had unconciously stepped closer to him, feeling comfortable in his presence. When she caught his eye, she smiled warmly.

"They should not crowd the woman. She is fine but I am sure she might like some space," she replied outloud, returning her gaze to the group.

Psyosis pulled her pain into himself and transfered most of it into a kind of stasis that he could make use of later, a tiny bit affected him, but he was use to it. Some migrain, who ever did this had hide himself very well, I didn't even sensed a hint. He checked for any damage to the brain, finding nothing he withdrew his mind. "There you go." He said brightly. "I'm sorry, but I forgot to ask your name. Still I was wondering if I could talk to you privately about your barrier, it was quite impressive." Mental, and with limated skill he sent a broadcast that effectivly boiled down to 'I know whats going on, let me help you.' Directly to her.
"It's a pleasure to meet you Lord Raymond, I hope we have a chance to talk again. Alan I will talk to you after your done for the day."
"Next time come here when we're still doing hand to hand drills." Alan's nasty voice didn't fit his smile, even one as full of teeth and malicious as the one he had,
"I'll make sure of it." Psyosis said without a hint of sarcasm. He motioned to Akazi to follow him. "If you don't mind, I think I can help with your migraines." He sisn't know if he needed someone permission for this, so he only asked Akazi.

(OOC Note: Psyosis isn't attending the academy so he is ignoring it. Aan has already told history so he'll tell him when everyone else is done.)

"Okay, play time's over, cadets, it's time for instruction. You, shorty, leave your 'tips' for open sparring. Now, I'll assingn pairs. Scary guy (Alan), you're up against shorty (Lord Raymond). Nuke boy (Radon), you're with the outcast (Celes). Gun nuts (Buck and Tommy), you're against each other. Army brat (Sartain), you're against wierd eyes (Embher). Kitty (Tigonus), you're against Miss Migraine (Akazi). And... well, well, well, looks who's decided to join us. Glad you could make it, Mr. Beeme, because I've got the perfect opponent for you," General Outrage pointed directly at Patchworks, and Lazier screamed like a little girl. General Outrage may not be as loud or in-your-face as Corporal Punishment, but he's an absolute sadist when he doesn't like someone, and is about the least sensitive person on the planet. He's also the best close combat trainer for heroes on Earth. He continued to explain the rules, "There will be NO ranged powers, only hand-to-hand or self-affecting powers are allowed," Lazier breathed a sigh of relief, as his force fields were allowed,"Shut it, brainiac. Now, weapons are allowed, but anyone using lethal force will find themselves in front of the hero disciplinary council, run by the Vanguard. Except, that is, for CERTAIN 'heroes' who are on special probation from FBSPA, who'll simply go to the Big Zig," he aimed the last comment at Alan, with a devilish smile on his face. "Get to training, cadets."

(OOC: I chose the pairing intentionally, to see what certain pairs will do (looks at Celes and Radon). General Outrage will not hesitate to give the first person to backsass him a new anus. Also, since he's a non-enemy NPC, his attacks are auto-hit.)

"I don't care what rank you are Sir, but you will refrain from calling me shorty. I mean no back sass General but I do believe that even in the American military soldiers are referred to at least by there last name, and seeing as I am of the British Royalty, you shall call me Lord Raymond as every other person of authority in this city has called me."

Lord Raymond is quick to be offended when someone forgets his position and cares very little if the General wants to say something about it or not.

"But as for your selection for whom I am to fight I will accept gladly," said Lord Raymond turning to Alan. "Lets begin shall we, Mended Ribs?"

Lord Raymond activated all his armors and rooted himself into the Earth which feeds him life.

"You may attempt first strike," said the rock encrusted Lord Raymond as he bowed to his opponent.

Celes narrowed her eyes at Outrage. An angry heat crawled to her face. It was ok when people stared at her and she would ignore the whispers but he was purposely mocking her. She clenched her fists but glanced at Radon. She frowned slightly as she stood awkwardly staring at him.

"Well...this..hmm, what's the word...oh yeah...sucks!" she replied, smiling slightly at Radon.

"I usually do not like hand-to-hand but oh well. Just promise to go easy on me. I'm still a little sore from my morning..umm...exercise," she laughed lightly, stepping back, accepting their fate.

She shrugs playfully as she stands staring at him, waiting for the match to begin.

Sad part is I would end up in the psyciatric ward. Alan glared at Psyosis. He turned and bowed to Raymond for no other reason than Raymond had, he assumed it was proper procedure. He was soon cover in shadows and welcome the first attack, in his experience the first strike can determine the whole fight. He charged and at the last second leaped to Raymonds side and hit him with his elbow on the side and caught his falling chin on his fist, Raymond's chin which was unfortunatly quickly covered with stone, Alan's claws dug into his palms and his knuckles fell like he had hit, well a brick wall. He quickly backed away. So much for deciding this match on the first strike.
Psyosis walked over to Outrage. "Good morning General, I trust all is well at the today?" General Outrage's eyes didn't leave the Cadets. "Good, I was wondering if you could get me a few minutes with the Psychic cadet, I believe I could..."
"Recuit her right. I won't let you, enough of you dragging the title of hero through the mud as is."
Psyosis waited patiently for him to finish. "I have no intention of recuiting her, I just want to talk with her."
"Forget it."
"I don't need to remind you how much money Hero Corp donated to this academy."
"You donated the money you can't take it back."
"We could correct the media on the places that donated, I sure the Chief mearly forgot about us."
General Outrages face twitched as he wrestled against his morals. "Fine, you have three minutes."
"Thank you General."

(OOC Note: Hero Corp didn't officaly donate to the Academy, it was covered up to avoid bad publicity. I hope you don't mind this Manofmanychars, but I figure more than a few groups donated to it's construction and having Hero Corp on your list of funders is never a good idea.

Alan attempted to use a fist because he nows Psyosis is nearby and that would have ended the fight right there)

Janice narrowed her eyes, seeing that the instructor had finally arrived, and for one reason or another decided that the information in her DD-214 wasn't good enough to excuse her from this. It was typical military fashion, try to get the soldier very angry, see what they would do, then push some more. Buck private tactics, against blood-and-guts ground pounders. She would have laughed, but knew that would really sit well with the General.

She left the bag, walked erect to within two paces of the General, and came to Parade Rest, then At Ease. Her eyes were straight ahead, but she focussed on the instructor.

"General Outrage, Recruit Sartain reports!" She waited for his acknowledgement, then continued. "Recruit Sartain has a medical profile against hand-to-hand combat. Recruit Sartain requests permission to practice with the heavy bags."

She stayed at the position of At Ease, waiting for the General's response, and afraid she knew what it would be. She would have to request either Sick Call or explain her situation if he denied her. She wasn't worried about explaining, but it would probably mean many students would not be striking up conversations with her later.

((OOC: She took her meds this morning, so she is not going to break down, but pushing this issue will get her War On. She is a soldier after all, and she knows more four letter words than Webster's, in an inventive way. She won't hesitate to explain.))

Radon was taken aback by the girl's sudden outburst and was about to rush to her aide, when the others started swarming towards her. Feeling he'd merely get in the way he held back and waited to see if she would be okay.

"They should not crowd the woman. She is fine but I am sure she might like some space," he heard Celes say beside him.

Looking over at her, he blushed when he saw she had moved closer to him. Before he could respond he caught movement out of the corner of his eye and turned his head. The smile that had been on his face dropped as he laid eyes on General Outrage and after he heard the announcement his heart sank.

"Well...this..hmm, what's the word...oh yeah...sucks! I usually do not like hand-to-hand but oh well. Just promise to go easy on me. I'm still a little sore from my morning..umm...exercise." Celes said as she took a fighting stance.

"What am I supposed to do now? I couldn't fight her even if I still had my powers. Gotta come up with something fast." he thought as he raced to find a solution.

Suddenly, an idea popped in his head. He just hoped that she'd go along with it and that the others wouldn't suspect his alterior motive.

"Well this does suck big time, but after what happened last night I think I need to work some more on my defensive skills. Why don't you attack and I'll just try to block, that way we won't have anything to worry about?" Radon said trying to sound cheerful.

"Who am I kidding? Nothing to worry about? Sure I know how to kickbox, but without my powers I doubt that'll be enough to defend myself against her attacks. I'll just have to pray and do the best I can." he thought, his face furrowed in concentration.

She smiled at Radon as he looked at her, concentration set deep in his face. Her nervousness slowly returned as she thought about fighting him. He was a friend. She only fought when she had too, in dire situations. She kicked her boots off and stepped further back as Radon took a defensive stance.

She nibbled her bottom lip nevously as she thought what to do. She could do melee weapons as her mind flashed to her two swords. She glanced at Radon. He did not to appear to have a sword and she could not lend him one of hers. She glanced around the room, popping her knuckles as she watched the other groups, stalling.

She nodded to him, showing she understood he was on the defensive.

"Well, after a few, I will need to work on my defensive skill too. Also, I apologize before hand for anything that might land," she replied softly, fear edging slightly into her voice.

She really did not want to do this. She took a deep breath as her mind raced. She didn't have any self-effecting powers but she did learn several fighting styles from her father. He wanted to make sure his little girl could defend herself from all-sides. Gee...thanks ,Daddy, she thought sarcasticly.

She stalked forward slowly, forcing herself to slow down and pull her hits to avoid real damage to Radon. She ducked down slightly, hands up, as a long leg kicked high to his right shoulder.

As Celes' kick came at him, he gave a silent sigh of relief. He knew she was holding back, trying not to hurt him. As he easily blocked the blow he was secretly glad she couldn't see his face as fear once again set in. The man in blue was still in the corner looking at him and, knowing he was watching, he made a slicing motion across his throat.

"D***, I got myself out of one predicament but I have no clue how to get him off my back. I won't stand a chance if I spar with him. What're you going to do now genius?" he asked himself.

His mind was so focused on getting out of his next fight, he almost forgot about the one he was in. He came back to reality just in time to avoid Celes' next attack.

"Wow, even if she's holding back she's really good, my arms are starting to sting." Radon thought as he continued to block and evade.

"All Right Alan," laughed Lord Raymond giving a little wince from the claw in his palm," I gave you the first strike so you could see what I can do, only fair for you to know what I can do right...right then. We are friends so lets avoid any permanent damage, shall we?"

Lord Raymond swung a hard swoop up with his axe at Mended Ribs stomach.

"One swing at a time chap, one swing at a time..."

Raymond loves close combat, being a veritable Tank, and enjoys the thrill of the fight, but he knows what could happen to Alan if he misplaces a blow, and fights accordingly.

OOC: I am hoping that we are going to be healed at the end of this, otherwise Alan is going to have some pretty bad cuts.

Patchworks looked over at Lazier and cocked his head. He seemed to be listening to something. He didn't really seem to do much else and stood there in front of the smaller hero glowing silently.

The instructor came out as Akazi got to her feet. She was hoping none of the faculty saw her "fainting" spell, but it was obvious that the General caught it. He called her "Miss Migraine". "Great. Nice first impression to make." she thought to herself. He started pairing up the other cadets. The tiger-man, Tigonus was selected as her partner. "I can only hope he's declawed." Akazi whispered.

The man who introduced himself as Psyosis offered to taker her from the group and help her. He seemed genuinely eager to heal whatever it was that hit her. "Thank you for the offer Mr. Psyosis, but really...I do feel much better." She wanted to stay with the group and start her training right away. Besides, the General didn't sound like he was going to let Psyosis interrupt his class.

On the way over to her sparring partner, she passed Lord Raymond. "I'll share my story with you at lunchtime." she said.

She thanked the empath once again, and stepped up to Tigonus. He was covered in fur, but she took notice of the muscular frame that lay beneath the surface. She wondered if they would be using padding or gloves. The prospect of fighting this person was a bit intimidating. Staying true to the rules General Outrage set, she would not use her psi to sense his plan of attack beforehand. She would rely solely on her somewhat limited knowledge of self defense.

"Sir, you are at the Hero Academy. You just came in the front doors. Is this some kinda joke?" the receptionist replied cooly.

"No no no no. I'm just a little forgetful that's all." Stu said. He opened his notebook and glanced at the page. "Now why the pete would I want to register at the Hero Academy?" he pondered. "Got to remember to write down the whys." Lifting his head up and quickly closing the notebook, he looked directly at the receptionist and said, "I would like to register... um sign up... uh enroll?"

"Very well, fill out these forms and I'll call someone to help you." was her answer as she plopped a clipboard onto the counter and pointed to a group of lobby chairs.

(OOC: I have no idea who he should speak to. Could someone give me a hand here.)

Stu tried his best thank you smile on the receptionist, picked up the clipboard and headed over to the chairs. Finding one that suited him he sat. Looking over the paperwork he realized he was going to have a really difficult time with this. He started with the easiest thing, he set the pen to paper. "Name? This should be easy." he thought confidently as he wrote, 'Alexander William Cross aka Stu.' Proceeding to fill out the forms a moment of clarity came upon him, he could remember everything, from birth to the last letter he had put down on the page. After finishing up the forms he quickly opened his notebook and began to plan as much as possible conveniently leaving out the whys.

(OOC: I'll be splitting the story up by which character I'm following)

Lazier:

Lazier immediately covered himself in force fields to defend against whatever that... thing could come up with. He decided that a good impression might lighten his beating a bit, although from the looks of the creature, he wouldn't stop until he got too tired to continue. "Pleasure to meet you. My name is Lazier Beeme, what's yours?" he said. " Please don't kill me. Please don't kill me. Please don't kill me," is what he thought.

Buck and Tommy:

"The usual?" asked Buck.
"Of couse," replied Tommy.
Their fight commenced, but it looked more like they were dancing than fighting. They nimbly sent elaborate punches and kicks at each other while dodging with equal grace. They had practiced for a week straight to master this, in case they did get paired up. And so they fought for the entire training session.
(OOC: they'll be back when class ends, but they're in the background for now.)

General Outrage:

(to Raymond)
"I don't give a flying ***** where the h*ll you came from! Here, you're just another cadet! Now, you little pansy, report to me at lunch, you're going to EARN your food!" at that, the general grew three times larger, and would have made Lazier wet his pants, were he not busy trying not to get pummeled by Patchworks.

(To Sartain)
"What? Do you think I'm STUPID?! Do you think I'm illiterate?! I saw your medical reports, and I don't care! Now, pair off with cadet Embher, or you can pair off with ME!" this time, he grew so tall, he almost reached the ceiling of the gymnasium. He could've picked Sartain up and thrown her into Steel Canyon, if he wanted to. "Are we clear, you split-tailed D*KE?!"

(OOC: also, to keep the instructors' personalities consistent, I'll write for them, if you don't mind. Also, I'm sorry for yelling at you two, Raymond and Sartain. I feel bad now . BTW, congatulations to Sibling for her mention in the CoH comic this month!)

Celes set her face in deep concentration as her training flowed through her mind. Each step, each move, each position played out quickly before her eyes. Her body unconciously reacted. Her fighting style was a deadly dance of several combined forms. It took all her effort to pull the hits.

She winced, barely noticable, every time Radon blocked. Her heart pounded in fear as they sparred. She felt the hot, purr of her dark side, her killer instinct crawl through her belly. It whispered darkly in her mind, crying out for blood and flesh. She swallowed hard, shaking away the image in her mind. As she moved around him, she noticed the skill he had, the way his body reacted, the flow of his energy. He must have some kind of training in combat. He moves like he does, she thought happily to herself. Watching him avoid or block her graceful kicks and swift punches, Celes began to fall into the rhythm of the fight.

She flowed smoothly, confidant in Radon's ability, as she changed up with some of her combo moves. She smiled warmly at him as they danced.

"Still doing okay? I'm not hurting you am I? We can switch if you want," she whispered to him as she neared for a punch, concern rich in her soft voice.

"Cadet Sartain says crystal, Sir, CRYSTAL!" She came back to a rigid attention, no hint of her real feelings carried on her face. A quick about face brought her back to Embher's close vicinity, and she was glad he was her partner for this, she wouldn't trust one of the others to understand.

Once she was close enough to be in grapple range, she caught his eye and used several hand gestures that were fairly universal in the field, keeping her back to the General.

*Watch me*
She pointed at her chin, made a fist and then closed her eyes tightly. Hopefully he wasn't hyper-strong, or he knew how hard to hit her to make it look good. She was about to take a fall.

((OOC: Let me make it clear, Janice will not engage in hand-to-hand with anyone she does not intend to finish. One of her problems is that her self control breaks down, think of it like a big switch in her head. She goes from fine and dandy to lawnmower setting, it was her training.

Also, while we are stoking Sibling's ego, Cliff (the Op's alter ego) wrote the article and we mourn the passing into the WoW of Goddess Gaia. Maybe they'll let us have an office in the new Times building! Issue 8 and now 10, we love CoH!))
