  2. Jack finishes his beer, says his goodbyes to the staff, and then wanders out into the dark street.

((OOC: Just wanted to get rid of him, incase you were waiting for him to leave before you started the new day. If you were just kick him out next time.))

  4. As she moved away to speak with Narshawn, what she said was just sinking in. 'I wasn't paying her to sit with me. Well she didn't seem to take offense at the thought, but I'll have to make it clear to her that I wasn't doing that. Guess I'll take my time finishing my beer, but try not to be that last one out Jack.' He leaned back in his seat and nursed his beer, letting his mind run as it will. 'Hey I'm not rich! I am handsome though no denying that slick.' He tried to spy his reflection in the mug. 'Cut that out you egomaniac, you're not that good looking Narcissus.' Quickly his head darted around to see if anyone had seen him.
  5. ((OOC: Been sucked into E3insider this week. Which made me even more mad at microsoft for its failure with Fable. See, right there!, you might not have noticed, but I just switched over to E3insider for like 5 minutes. I'm gonna do that a lot so um... deal.))

Jack returned her smile. "Thanks Gertrude but I'm sure you wanna get home and relax so I'll get out of your hair." He flipped open his wallet and dug enough bills out to leave a good tip, and handed it to her. "There ya go. Are ya working tomorrow? I'd like to convince ya to waste your break with me again." He wasn't in any hurry to leave but he didn't want her to feel obligated to stay open up for him. Perhaps he would get a chance to talk with her another day.
  6. [ QUOTE ]

Question 1: What's your favorite color?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Jack Rose: "I would say blue I like to have some in each costume."

Project 23: "That is a pointless and circumstantial question. If you would like my opinion on the color of certain items try being more specific."
  7. He had watched when she spoke about the past and what Gemini had done for her. He had seen the sadness of the war and the joy and relief of being safe. He couldn't relate though, the Rikti had never made it near his home in Texas, but that is what brought him here. He also had watched her touch her arm over and over again. He wasn't sure what to make of it, but he didn't really think that he was close enough to ask. So he just filed it away under stuff he wanted to know about Gertrude.

He grins. "Lady Gemini seems like a very noble person. I definately wouldn't mind having her watch my back. My friends name is Project 23 and we have never been partnered up on a mission. You see we met when I joined up with the PDF, he was already a member and I was just leaving an SG that fell apart. Kinda sad, but life changes people." He took a slow swig of his beer and seemed to be thinking as he did so. "Anyway he was my guide to the PDF. Basically he showed me around, explained the rules and regulations, went over the expectations and got me set up with my uniform. During all this we got to talking and it turned out that he didn't actually stay anywhere. Which kinda makes sense since he doesn't need to sleep. He does need to recharge though so... Ok so I offered him a place to stay." He smiled. "I seem to be getting off topic. Project has a personality built in. He is very much like a human. Well, he is very much like a very grumpy human. He hasn't mastered tact yet and sometimes has a problem understanding normal human situations. I took him to a hockey match and had the hardest time explaining that the fighting was ok." He gave one of those nostalgic laughs.

Leaning back in his chair he gave a big sigh. "Project listens really well and to be honest his cold rational view of things is pretty insightful when it comes to dealing with ones own choices in life. He is way off though when it comes to dealing with other people's emotions, but he's getting better. Mainly we have long drawn out discussions over a card game or chess, both of which I lose on a regular basis."
  8. ((OOC: Sorry so late, long weekend. I bet Manion and Beth's food will be showing up soon.))

"I keep forgetting to get my license changed. I'm always asked for my Security Card instead that it just became a low priority." He grinned and took a sip of his beer. "I don't know if you would call a hero's life normal, but maybe you would in this town. I work mainly with my Supergroup, the Portal Defense Force, and, well, we run around and thwart attempts, by other dimension, to invade Earth. Not all of the time, well I haven't actually done it at all, but I'm supposed to go if I'm ever needed. Instead a group of us stay here in Paragon and help take of her."

He took another swallow. "I sure hope I'm not boring you with my lack of a story, but ya see my roommate and best friend is off world right now and well it is his first time and I'm kinda worried about him. Don't get me wrong they wouldn't have picked him if he wasn't ready, but he is like the only family I got here, even if he is a robot." He paused and reflected inward for a moment. "Look at me babbling on like that. So, tell me, who is this Gemini you mentioned earlier, I don't think I've met her." He leaned forward and rested his chin on his propped up hands.
  9. At the bar Jack ordered himself a Newcastle and couldn't quite decide what to get Gerttrude. "Narshawn she said she would like a cola though something stronger would be welcome. I don't know your policies here, and I'm sure you know what she prefers to drink so I'll let you make that call." Narshawn was quick and gave him her normal toothy smile. "Thank you Narshawn." He grabbed a couple coasters from the bar and headed back to the table.

Setting her drink down in front of her he gave her a smile. "Sorry that took so long. Continue with what you were saying." He took his seat and a long draw from his mug. Then setting the mug down he turned his full attention back to Gertrude.
  10. He was kinda shocked. He hadn't expected Gertrude to be so open. He was just guessing, but it seemed like something recent, the anger still seemed to be there. He was also pretty sure she didn't want people coddling her since she seemed a strong willed woman. He couldn't act like she hadn't said it either. "You have my condolence for your situation, it should not happen to anyone, but I'm sure you've heard that enough."

He forced a smile on his face. "Now I haven't been tied up with someone in a long time, and even then it was only until till I woke up and realized what had happened. People have a tendency so try and take advantage of you if you're different." Looking around for something to drink he realized that he only had milk and she had nothing. That would wait though. "In all seriousness I have no romantic relationship, and haven't since I was engaged about three years ago. Now I'm not sure what ya mean by making time with a waitress, but I enjoy your company and your banter. Now what should I tell Narshawn you want to drink?" He stood up at took a couple steps towards the bar.
  11. ((OOC: As I wait for I4 to update. This will be short.))

Jack took the seat opposite Gertrude, and laid his arms on the table. He rubbed his chin in a thoughtful way and said, "Well, I can't say I had a topic in mind. I figured some idle chit chat would find us to a topic eventually. If I need an itenerary though I'm sure I could write one down. Ya got a pen?" He grinned. "I tell ya what, tell me something about yourself that I don't know. So far I got your first name, the fact that you have a son, I know that you are a waitress, and I even know where you work." He made the hand gestures of flipping through an imaginary notepad. "Yep that be all of my notes. We can even take turns."
  12. "Ah, well I wanted to stop myself from eating any more. I'm stuffed and was a little worried that I might cause some permanent damage if I kept eatting. It was fantastic though." He grinned. "I was hoping to take the rest home with me, kinda thought about taking the bowl too." He wandered towards her to show she had his attention. "So when is this break you mentioned coming up? I'd love your company."

((OOC: It has been very quiet lately.))
  13. Jack was done eating at this point, there was no way he had room for anymore. He grabbed a clean napkin and draped it over the chili. Hopefully he could take the left overs home. He took a drink of milk and realized that he wanted something else to drink. He liked milk, but he had had all the calcium he needed for the day. He watch Gal enter the bar and start talking to a man who Jack slowly realized was President Black. 'Maybe I should go say hi. Nah that would be impolite. He doesn't know me and it would just be awkward.' Jack just watched the conversation with interest. Then realizing that he hadn't finished his game of darts he headed off to do just that.

((OOC: If I had ever mentioned my SG and the story behind them then people would realize that Jack would recognize President Black. But I didn't however if you would like here is a little info. PDF. There is a whole storyline in the works, but that is not my job so I can't get you anything else.))

((OOC: My apologies, let me correct my text here. There that should be better. I am just trying to show my relationship to Portal and that if Black were spending months abroad doing major work on another world I'm sure Jack would have heard of him through the grapevine. If I'm stepping on toes let me know.))
  14. Jack watched as Gertrude walked away with a smile on. His mouth felt so alive from the tingle that was left by the spices. It was over producing saliva to try and fight it off, but only managed to give temporary relief and spread the burn around. He took a couple more bites, each followed by a good swallow of milk. He knew he wasn't going to be able to finish this. There just wasn't enough room in his stomach for chili and milk. Jack tapped his foot to the fast paced Minuet and it gave him the inspiration to see what else was on this box.

He slid off the seat and took a bite on his way over, took two steps and turned around to grab his milk. Drink in hand he stood over the music selection and scrolled through until he found someone he liked. He didn't know how many songs were up before him, but he could definately wait.Tapping the buttons he queued up Drink the Water by Jack Johnson and All my Friends by Amos Lee. He took another swig of milk and realized that he was done with the glass.

A short walk found him back at the table, and he resigned himself to bread and milk for a bit.
  15. Jack finished throwing as Gertrude laid the plate on the mat. He left the darts in the board and strode over to the table. As she pulled out the plastic spoon he laughed openly. After she pulled out the silver he eyed them both acting like he was trying to decide between the two. "Well I guess I promise I'll bring the fine silverware back if I run off, but that won't happen tonight because nobody's gonna need me."

He returned her smile and wrapped two fingers around the silverware and waited for Gertrude to loosen her grip before taking them from her. "So your boy is into raves huh?" As he talked he made his way to his seat. "I'm a jazz guy myself, something my Ma instilled in me, but I've heard some of it, called acid jazz I think," he paused to take a bite, "that is pretty... holy crap." He swallowed quickly and did a clenched teeth sucking thing, then grabbed the milk and took a swig. Rolling the milk around in his mouth he patiently waited for the burn to leave then swallowed. "My goodness this is good, but you could warn about the Insanity sauce."

((OOC: Jackis just trying to open the line of communication with Gertrude here, the southern hospitality that was instilled in him growing up just shines through. He is also no stranger to hot food and has a weak spot for blackened gator. I personally love Dave's Insanity sauce.))

  17. Jack nodded his head at Gertrude's dismissal, then took a small sip of his milk. He was pleased that she had brought him whole milk, a natural base, it should allow him to finish a spicy meal. He learned this from his mother who's family had lived in New Orleans as long as it had been around. Setting the glass back down he walked up to the line and took another three throws. The last time he had thrown darts he had been in his father's barn the night before he left for Paragon city. His parents had thrown him a going-away party and his father had attempted to get him to stay by betting on a game of darts. His dad had lost and Jack could still remember the sadness in his eyes. 'Goodbyes are always sad, no need for me to tear up in a bar. Get a grip on yourself Jack.' He jerked the darts from the board, threw a smile on his face and headed back to the line to finish his game.
  18. Jack was walking back to the line from the board when Gertrude came with his milk. [ QUOTE ]
"You're chili will be a minute Jack, I hope you said you want the food spicy." She winked and set his glass down on a coaster.

    [/ QUOTE ]
"What are you talking about Gerry, I'm not hungry." He gave her a toothy smile to show he was kidding. He saddled one of the stools ((OOC: I hope there are stools surrounding high top tables here, because that is what I'm imagining and what I'm used to from my bars with dart boards.)) and threw an arm up on a table. "So yer day treating ya good, little miss?"
  19. He returned Gertrude's smile, "Sounds great." A couple steps took him to the bar to get some darts from Narshawn. 'So she has a kid... I guess that means she's got a man, I better start being a little more respectful, I would hate to put a foot in the wrong place.' He thanked Narshawn for the darts and took a slow walk over to the game room. 'Ah, ya think to much Jack. You worry to much, like about Project. I sure hope Project is ok. No, he is a big guy and he can handle himself. Plus with the other members he is going with I'm sure he will be fine. Who woulda thought I would think of a machine as a friend. Best roommate I ever had though.' He didn't even realize he had thrown two of three darts until then. He tossed the next one and hit the 2. Marking off his points he continued his game of 301 and decided not worry about Project or where he put his feet.

((OOC: (') this symbol is what I use for internal dialogue. (") This symbol is what I use for external dialogue. I would hate for that to get confusing. I see you are trying to kill my character off, thanks Sibling, ))
  20. A smile crept on his face as soon as he heard her voice. "Well if you ain't a ray of sunshine." He gave her hand two light pats, taking comfort from the touch. "I thought my day was shot till I saw your pretty face. You know I'll take a glass of milk and something pretty spicy to eat, I need a reminder I'm still alive."

He positioned himself to square in front of her, and dug into his pockets. "I've been carrying these around for like a week." He pulled the silverware he had stole his first day and held them up. "I washed them, but they been in my pocket for a bit so I'm not sure if they are fit for use." He took her hand off his arm and placed the silverware in her hand and with a serious face said, "I do believe that the traditional gift for a second meeting is silver." His grin returned and he turned his body to walk away, but his head still faced her. "I'll be over at the dart boards and that is enough out of you about my hair lady. This is why I wear a hat."

((OOC: It reall is a shame that Jack has never heard of Gemini. He might get himself into trouble.))
  21. Jack whipped the restaurant front door open not really realizing how hard he pulled and just barely missed hitting himself in the face with it. He stumbled past the curtain and froze. A quizical look came across his face as he looked around, then he saw Martin and realized he had used the wrong door. "My apologies Martin... wrong door... I uh had something on my mind."

He also then realized that he still had his cape on, and seeing that noone else was wearing one he quickly attempted to undo the two clasps. Masterfully fumbling away he finally managed to get them undone with only smashing his fingers twice. He quickly folded the cape just as his father had taught him to fold a flag and stuffed it under his arm like a newspaper. He gave a sigh of relief as he realized he was wearing one of his more casual costumes.

"I'll just show myself to the bar Martin. Once again sorry about the intrusion." He wound his way through the tables trying to avoid the occupied ones. He ended up noticing most of the people in there and did a double take when he realized who Beth was. "Wow" he muttered under his breath. Somehow he ended up passing near the kitchen trying to avoid people and sent a smile towards its imhabitants. Once out of the restaurant he saddled up to the bar and hailed Narshawn with a wave of his hand. It just struck him that he didn't have his hat and his hand went quickly up to the spikey blue hair that stood on his head. "Well that is a relief, for a minute there I thought I was having a good day." he thought to himself.
  22. ((OOC: So much dialogue was going on and I didn't have the opportunity to post regularly so I stepped away from writing, but I've been reading as often as possible which is once every 2 or 3 days. Good conversations and stories ya'll.))
  23. [ QUOTE ]
"Nice to see you back, thought you slipped out the other night. What can Ladies provide you tonight?" Her smile wa warm, and with Narshawn occupied, she thought she might get some time to chat with him.

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Hey ya darlin. I can tell yer busy so I'll make it quick. I'll take a long island and whatever Gal's special is tonight." Jack smiled as he spoke a little bit of mischievousness shined in his eyes. "But hurry back I've got a present for ya." He patted the pocket of his jacket indicating that is where it was hidden.

((Thanks for the liberties with the NPCs and I'll use them sparingly.))
  24. Wendy tilted her head to the side. "Um, maybe I wasn't as clear as I thought." She paused for a minute thinking, then seeing that Narshawn was waiting for a yes or no on the daquiri quickly replied. "Yes, the daquiri sounds good. Give me a sec to figure out how to explain this." She was sure there was an easy way to explain this, she just needed some time to think it through. Her eyes climbed to the ceiling as she pondered this issue.

    ---------------------------------

Jack slipped in through the bar door and quietly grabbed a seat at one of the tables. Pulling it back he slung his jacket onto the back and dropped himself down into the seat. It had been a quiet last couple of days and he was full of energy. He eyed the pool tables with a longing for someone to play with. Glancing around his eyes seeked Gertrude.
  25. "Gaia... interesting, but no I've never used that type of magic." She pressed a finger to her lips in thought. "Well to best describe the style of magic I use you would need to be able to use it also. I will do my best though. Lets see well each element in life has a thread. There are five. Fire, water, air, earth, and spirit. Now when you combine these threads together in a weave you can produce different results. Some weaves you create and then apply to an object, others will change as you create them, and still others will be used to create an object. Understanding how to create weaves is the basis for learning magic. However most people here can not see the threads I weave, but that is how it is done." She studied at Narshawn to see if she was understood by the woman. Smiling she quickly ordered. "Before you ask any questions can I talk you into making me a drink. Something fruity."
