Roleplaying
I would recomend joinging a SG that is full of RPers. Check out the supergroup forum or the Virtue form. I try and RP, but it is difficult at times with pickup groups only concerned with XP rather than RP.
Good post. I also am attempting with no success, to find a supergroup in which I may enjoy roleplaying. An avid fan of the genre I thought that maybe the uber-comic geeks such as myself would run kicking and screaming towards such an opportunity. Alas, that is not the case. But since you're on Virtue look me up in case you want to group my name is Krogard there.
Well, it's not a Virtue SG... we are on Justice (sadly the most crowded server, as my luck always ends up in such matters, sigh), but my entire 18-player/35-character (most people have alts) super group is roleplay based. You can check out our forums and read our team charter if you like, and you are welcome to roll up a character on Justice and RP with us. We RP with anyone, whether or not they are in the SG with us.
Our team is called REDUX. Don't let the theme (ex-villains turned hero) scare you off. That is ONLY for the founding members. All newer members can be of any sort of background they want. In fact one of my alts is a Captain America/Supergirl kind of hybrid (sort of) and is utterly squeaky-clean, and also on the team.
You can check out our forums here.
Feel free to contact me (Fraktal, Liberty Lass, or Argent Bullet in game) or any of the other group leaders (Facade, Eidolon., Solafire, Elextrix., Davodd, Akiko, Shivan, Stormfront.). (Note the dots after some of the names).

Your mention of your Team Founder's orgins is intriguing. I generally prefer to allow a character's personality to evolve based on in-game events, and already I am noticing a trend within him that is making him a darker character, in regards mostly to the people he has interacted with. He may or may not decide to stop alongside a strangers fallen body in the street and offer assistance, depending on his mood at the time. (As an example) Sometimes he turns down the oppurtunity to save the homeless, as another example.
Not all heroes are there to save the Princess from the Dragon.
I am going to check out your forum, thanks for the information.
If you are looking for roleplayers on Virtue, Aurorae might be for you. We have different levels of roleplaying, since we also have a number of members that are new to RPing, but a requirement for joining our group is to stay in-character whenever you play. Some people prefer to let their character develop after having created him, and some like to have it all down before they start. Either way is fine, since we are all here for the roleplaying. You will be welcome to join, although the dark trend you spoke about will not... We are heroes, and we are good. If you are evil, then my character for one will attack you on the spot (he's very black/white about such things). But, perhaps something will happen that brings you back on track, or before you would like to join with another hero. In any case, feel free to contact me (Solarhaphaeriom) or Major Hazard ingame, or PM me here, or post on our site (see sig) boards if you are interested.
To the interested party,
If you feel that your background meets with our expectations and corporate image, please feel free to look into First Strike Security.
You can visit our offices in King's Row, or our electronic forums located HERE
Thank you for your interest, and good luck

I hate to break the news to you but choosing to do something or not choosing to do something w/ out any consistency is not roleplayin. In other words your saying that you sometimes help a fallen character or sometimes dont depends on your characters mood. Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard because basically all that u r saying is that your character has no character because there is nothing that he does which defines his character. For instance if u were to always help a fellow hero in need then you could say that u r roleplaying. U however have a guy that is defined by your flights of fancy. This is not only lame but is not roleplaying.
I rp's probly for the first time since starting this game, happened totally randomly, but there was some guy doing it who I teamed with, and had a lot of fun, even though he kept on running into any mobs he saw (including purples) because he couldn't stand to see civilians being hassled. I finally managed to convince him to take on only those we could handle (through some nifty rping on my part), but I can say that I had a lot of fun. It was a nice break from the norm.

No, he didn't say that at all. He said his character is gradually becoming darker over time, and becoming less willing to be a "good samaritan." How do you get from that, that he isn't roleplaying? Sounds very MUCH like he is roleplaying, to me.

Looking at the posts here, I would really prefer to RP also. I have run into some RPers on Pinnacle. There was one who went by the name "The Trustbuster". Teddy Roosevelt returns! RPing is one of the reasons why I do this in the first place. It's a bit of escape.
If anybody knows of any RP-oriented supergroups on Pinnacle, I'd be grateful.
I'm a Security Level 11 Magic Energy/Elec Blaster.
It seems to be missing in action of late.
Well.. I'd offer my assistance in giving you all a group of RPers, as my SG is an all RP group (if you don't RP, you dont' get in, simple as that) But unfortnately, my group is in the habit of causing mass destruction and slaughtering all heroes we come in contact with.
That said, if you ever come to the darkside feel free to give me a buzz, global name is @Lady Lumos
On the Freedom Server, there are a couple few Role Play SG's. For us, we have the Forever Men and Mega Corps (Coalition) which is Role Play on the CoH Side. I have started the League of Malevolence , for Role Play on the CoV side. From the creation of the VG, i set up the Coalition between the LoM and the MC and FM, so we can do some cross game RP as Heroes or Villains, and have even done break downs, so we have people playing the villain for the hero or vice versa. This allows us to use the coalition chat, and allows all members of all 3 SG's to participate. (You can no longer set up cross game coalitions between CoV and CoH SG's, so we are one of the lucky ones)
I spent my first year in the game just playing, and was getting pretty bored with the whole thing. Was just burning time until CoV got released. Then lucked into someone seeing my character, and mentioning how it would fit in with their RP SG. I checked it out, and said, "Why not". I grew up wargameing, playing D&D, stuff like that, so i gave it a shot. RP'ing put a new spin on the game, and it became a lot more fun to RP the character, while playing, than it was to play to run missions and level.
We also spend time writing stories on the forums for the site, creating and running events, etc. Also, with us having the coalition, it keeps us off of the local and broadcast chat's so the random idiots running around don't ruin it.
If there are any RP'rs on freedom, that are looking for a good SG, give us a look.
I suspect there's not more RP because:<ul type="square">[*]1. People have fun without it / don't know what they're missing.[*]2. A lot of RP is organized around SGs, making it less visible & accessible to the casual player who doesn't want to start another alt or drop out of their non-RPing SG, has limited time, &c.[*]3. Managing IC chat and combat at the same time can be a challenge, leading to a perceived choice between 'playing the game' and 'standing around RPing.'[*]4. Bad experience with militant RPers getting snippy about it.[/list]I expected to RP more in a game of this sort, but rarely have. I have fun running missions willy-nilly, and I am often only online for an hour or two at a time, on no regular schedule, so I do a lot of solo and ad-hoc teaming and not as much SG stuff as I'd like.
By chance, I fell in with a RP team last night, and it was fun--and took my mind off the numbingly familiar Mercy Island missions. (I have too many alts.) So I started thinking... why not do this more often?
I find strict RP groups a little intimidating. It took me a while to get that (( ))=OOC. I'm never sure whether the Team channel should be IC or OOC. I want to run missions, not spend an hour talking about my it. 'Lite' RP folks who enjoy IC banter but are friendly to non-RPers are a blast, though.
It would be nice if it were easier to juggle chat and combat. A toggle between the chat input and char control, maybe a persistent 'emote palette' window so I could one-click the ones I would use a lot... a IC/OOC chat toggle... I'm too lazy to set up keybindings, can't the devs do it for me?
And why isn't /em <text> output consistent between the chat window and the thought bubble? It drives me crazy that it prefaces the emote with your name on the chat window and not in the bubble: one of the two will always look 'wrong' compared to the other for any emote given.
Finally, there's finding other people to RP with. My chars on Virtue are in a SG, and I have Too Many Alts as it is. I'm thinking of picking a character or two (off-Virtue) and making them my 'RP alts' & trying to find a SG to join, or doing the casual 'lite' RP thing on Virtue. We'll see how it goes.
I hope this is the correct spot, as it pertains to CoH in it's whole. In regards to the tpoic, a little help please.
I did the research before plunging into this game, and spent a few days tinkering around with various origins and archetypes before deciding on a regular full time character to evolve within Paragon City, and its clones. Most responses I have recieved in regards to where to find creative roleplay indicated I should make my mark on the other world known as Virtue. So, armed with knowledge, experiance, and willingness, I brought my primary character to Virtue and eagerly saught 'RolePlay'. After gaining 8 security levels I was forced to block the Broadcast Channel altogether. After 15 security levels I have met only one other citizen who has demonstrated the emmersion level I seek in an RPG.
Granted, I realise the numbers of Heroes within any Pargon City are outstanding, and finding such a pearl in such a large haystack could be a measure of a heroic feat in itself, however, I expected more of a 'presence' of roleplay when I saw the potential this game has. I am sure there are people out there, who share this opinion, but I am having a hard time finding them, or rather, a hard time recognising them amid the 'war fog' that blankets the public channels. I of course realise that claiming a game this size for the complete rule of roleplay only denizens, is a task that could never be completed, however, I would like to ask that those of you who do seek a more emersing roleplayed game adventure, to please make yourselves more visible, so that others like myself, who also seek roleplay over rollplay, can band together and enjoy this game to our mutual levels of satisfaction.
If Virtue is no longer the other world I should seek such emmersion within, I would appreciate some indication on which world I should head towards. Again, if this post is in the incorrect position within the Forums, I appologise, and ask the Mods to please move it, and direct me towards where I should make further conversation regarding this subject.
That is all.
