Officially Recommended RP Server/Character ports
They probably haven't done it because other companies have tried it and been flamed to high heaven every time someone runs into a non-RPer they don't like.

Right now it's quite the opposite, RP'ers seem to be flamed and hunted like dogs. I'd rather we just had our own publically listed "spaces"...crazy as it sounds...
I don't think it sounds crazy, and this has been discussed a lot on the boards. I'm suprised it hasn't been looked at more or at least addressed.

Dwarf Star; Angel-Night, Adoniel, angel of the 12th hour of the night; among the many

I agree. RPers should have their own official server.
The reason given to us in beta was the same as why (at first) they didn't give out the location of the servers. They wanted the servers to have an even distrbution and if one was official something then new players would flock to that server and it would be severly overloaded. Guess their plan didn't work because the players just made and unofficial one and it is overloaded.

Agreed. Rather ironic in a game that's tailor-made for RPing, too.
Personally, I'm hoping that the grinding crew gets sick of the game fast and moves on to The Next New Thing, and leave the RPers alone.
Bump.
Because I would >love< to reroll to an RP server. It could very well save this game for me.
I think they should make EVERY server the "Official Title" something.
Like the RPer one, the competitive one, the... errr...
...
Hmm... I wanted to cut down on the problem of making anyone "flock" to anything... but I've run out of Server designations... I'm sure we can ALL band together and think of something for each server, right?
The main problem with any game in trying to designate an "Official" server for something that is not supported by game mechanics (i.e. - PvP is a game mechanic, Roleplaying is not), is that there will always be players who use that designation as a loophole.
For example, on an "Official Roleplay" server, while not the rule, in general, people who enjoy roleplay tend to level slower AND tend to be more easy going about disputes. Because of this, grieffers and power gamers actually ENJOY playing on an RP server, because it means they will have more uncontested (or easily pushed over opponents) access to high end game content. Now, in CoH, most of the content can be or is already instanced, so it avoids that, but it doesn't negate the fact that power gamers would play on an RP server just because they'd rather have 15 people at level 40 in the "best" zone than to have 100 people at level 40 in the "best" zone.
For roleplay, it really is the best method to develop the community outside of game or through word of mouth, and find places where people can gather in game on their own. Any attempt to legislate roleplaying in a game just spirals into defining roleplay... "But I AM roleplaying. I'm roleplaying a 14 year old with tourettes who is trapped in a computer game surrounded by people who think they are superheroes, and whose only relief from the pain caused to him by the game is to inflict pain on others in game. THAT's my role!"
And Fox, you forgot "The Official Asian Server", "The Official Goth Superhero Server", and "The Official 18+ Server" ...
All good server designations!
By the way, LOVED the article.
Never can frown at my name in the paper!
Oh yes! Almost forgot! "The Official Kitty Server!"
How about "Official Munchkin server"?
Ohh...wait...nevermind...we would have to send half the players there.... :P
Instead of the Clockwork King would they go up against the dreaded Lollypop King!!???
As much as an all-RP server would be ideal, there do seem to be a large number of factors which would prevent it from working. Personally, I think the best solution would be for off-map social-type areas in each server, since this would naturally allow persons with similar interests (e.g. Roleplayers) to get together.
Supergroup Headquarters would also be ideal for RPing locations, and though I haven't seen anything definite I've gotten the impression this feature is in the works (possibly to be implemented pretty quickly). Me, for my part, I'm trying to be patient until this happens.
Does anyone know why Cryptic has not chosen to designate a server as the "Role-Playing Server"? Not that I think RP should ever be enforced, but just for the simple measure of making it so that when you choose a server, RP-Players can know where to go to find the highest density of like-minded individuals.
WoW is going to have such a server and I think it's a great idea, I'd love to be on a server that I knew a comfortable majority of the players on-line at anytime where RP-ers.
And if we get this in the future I'd love to see a way to portal to different servers with intact characters.
Too me it would serve the community better to have most of the servers be 'generic' one noted as 'Competitive' (let the grinders have their own server too!) and one noted as "Role-Playing"
Is there anyone who thinks this is a bad idea? and why have I not seen this discussed by anyone at Cryptic?
Thoughts, please.
