  1. Epic. Cheesy, but epic. Clever work, and all in Powerpoint, too!

This could really be a tipping point in our coverage in the MMO blogosphere! Let's blow the doors off of this thing!

    Week 1 Recap!

Thank you very much, Jack_NoMind. If you wouldn't mind doing regular updates on our efforts like this in the future, I think it would be appreciated.

Two things I'd like to draw special attention to. First, there's a Google Docs spreadsheet acting as an index of media coverage. That tiny sentence that Jack spent half an hour writing is the tip of an iceberg.

Second, if you haven't yet, please seriously consider drafting a letter to NCsoft's CEO. If you send it, spring for the extra cash to send it Certified. This means someone at the CEO's desk will have to sign for it.

    Keep up the good fight!

One of my friends is a really active cosplayer; I showed her that link, and she immediately started passing it to her friends in that community, with a line like "How would you feel if they told you that you couldn't dress up at cons anymore?" Two of those people immediately hit up their contacts.

We can mobilize other communities, if we present ourselves in exactly the right way!

Thanks! Keep us posted, here and on the Titan forums, if anything comes out if!

Bare minimum? If you keep an updated version of the client program--like, say, the beta server install--on your computer, you can use the data from this file to create a demorecord and go back and look at your character later.

However...it could, theoretically, be used to export the character to another game. If a compatible game were to ever be made, since--to date--one has not.
  8. I'll make every effort to be there on one of my older 50s--a character who, narratively, was born and raised in Paragon. It seems fitting that way, even if I won't be winning any costume contests.

I doubt I'm telling you anything you haven't already told yourself, but...these sorts of talks have to happen in silence and secrecy by their very nature. We can't really know what's being said. And I understand completely that fact is very frustrating.

For now, though, we have to act as though two contradictory things are true: (a) NCsoft is receptive to the devs' message, and (b) the talks aren't going to end in a way that we'd like. The second part means that we can't afford to rest--not yet. The first part means that any action we take has to be noble, civil, and respectable.

I hope you can sleep soon. Things will look much better after you do, I think. Even if they don't, the fight will be here, waiting for you to join in, when you wake up. We could use all of you right now, but we also need you at 100%--so take care of yourselves, too.

I apologize if any of that sounds too preachy.

Nor would I want to do that, either. But if the CNN community is only getting one shot to see what we're all about, I want it to be as good as we can make it.

Speaking of... TonyV's press release should be in the wild by now. Parts of that could be used, I'm sure.

There's no law saying we can't upvote both iReports, but I think the OP's is closer to CNN's guidelines for writing an iReport. As such, I think it's far more likely to pass whatever vetting process comes once an iReport reaches 2000 recommendations.

I'm not sure if this would be a good idea for the COH situation, especially since we may need to drum up money to help save the game. I thought that I would at least share this idea and see what everyone else thinks about this.
It's a good idea, and one that's been brought up before. As I understand it, we're a little ways away from asking anyone to contribute financially to anything at this point, but should that come to pass, this option is definitely one that should be considered.

No. If vicariously being a hero has taught me anything, it's that it's not over until it's over. It doesn't look good, but that just means we have to try harder for any hope at all. Take heart, and don't stop fighting the good fight.
  15. I somehow got really involved in the Save Paragon City! movement. One song that keeps going through my mind? "How Far We've Come" by Matchbox 20:

Waking up at the start of the end of the world,
But it's feeling just like every other morning before,
Now I wonder what my life is going to mean if it's gone,
The cars are moving like a half a mile an hour
And I started staring at the passengers who're waving goodbye
Can you tell me what was ever really special about me all this time?

I believe the world is burning to the ground
Oh well I guess we're gonna find out
Let's see how far we've come...

I think that's where a lot of people fighting to save the game are: the world may be burning to the ground, but it's just one more chance to see how far we, the community, have come.

Absolutely, positively worst-case scenario? I might try to learn Second Life and help some friends make a CoH-like social setting there.

But I'd be on board for a fan-led spiritual successor first.

Thank you very much for taking the initiative here. Your friend's words give hope, which is a valuable thing for all of us right now.
  18. I did find Liquid's story at the top of another thread.
  19. Great stories in here, guys!

Over at Titan Network, there's a big media outreach push underway--we're trying to convince uninvested people that our game's story is interesting and that our game is worth saving. If those of you who met your significant others could tell longer, touching versions of those stories in this thread, it'd be a great place to send people that need a reason to care.

    Thanks in advance!

If someone were to purchase that proprietary code (such as another publisher), it would be a completely different matter.
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to imply that I thought Zwillinger's words were a death knell--I've always thought that another publisher buying CoH was really the game's best shot at avoiding shutdown. But from the start, I've known this was an uphill fight, even for the most likely outcome.

Instead of using that as a cause for despair, though, I try to use it as motivation.

I'll be honest: from where I sit, the odds aren't in our favor. But if there's one thing the heroes I've created over the years have taught me, it's that you have to fight hardest when the odds are the longest.

Fantastic initiative and resourcefulness. We could use that energy working with the Titan Network, if you haven't signed up and started following the coordination of efforts there:

  25. First of all, I apologize if someone has beaten me to starting a thread on this.

Rumor is that there is going to be a session on TwitchTV starting at 10:30 a.m. Pacific time. For reference, at the time of writing, that is in just under two hours. Interested parties can go here:

    http://www.twitch.tv/paragonstudios

I'll be in class (I'm technically "studying" now), so I won't be there, but I hope it's good news!

Update: the stream is up and running. Hit_Streak is already in it, and it was confirmed via Twitter that the video session is happening.
