Thanks. I figured that is what I was doing wrong. I was fully slotted for -tohit. That helps.

I have a few WP toons and they never seem as awesome as other people's version. I am thinking I don't use Rise to the Challenge correctly. Is the best slotting for this regen heavy?

Quote:This is what I sorta meant in my first post. I think every AT can be fun and certainly holds plus debuff can rock it, but they don't seem as all-powerful, master of the game type and I don't enjoy them like I used to (and they were my favorite, too!).That is exactly why controllers were my first favorite AT (my 'shade was the second as soon as the 'troller hit 50). Lately I have been feeling like the end game has passed them by though. Options are nice, but when there are characters that wade into an 8-man spawn and walk away 5 seconds later leaving behind a pile of corpses I feel like my options are kinda wasted.

Wait, I think I just argued against myself!

Quote:Dechs--nothing here I can disagree with. I still have a cold, bubble, dark, TA, Kin defender. Just like the corruptor better. Having said that, I actually purposely made a Kin defender because I didn't like the set when I was a troller because I had two many power options that I felt I needed/wanted to use in a fight, so my kin defender is just what I want. Making him a corruptor would give me the same issue.Because a defender has better buffs and debuffs.
Because a defender gets its support powers sooner.
Because a ... oh hell with it, just go look at the other "Corruptor vs Defender" thread in the Corruptor forums. Or was it Defender?
EDIT: Particularly, look at this post: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...84#post3896784 -
Quote:I totally agree that it is a different playstyle, but for some reason I just don't like troller's playstyle as much as Doms. Maybe that is a better way to put it.I agree only from a Corruptor > Defender point of view.
Controllers and Dominators are have different playstyles entirely.
But, yeah, I'd love to hear a good defense for why defender over corruptor. -
There is definitely an ebb and flow to which toons I play the most, but since I began in i3, I have enjoyed trollers immensely. As I have looked closely at my list of toons (I alt a lot, so I have plenty), I am realizing that I really just don't like trollers anymore.
I used to see the debuff option as troller or fender, and I never liked that defenders didn't do much damage, so I went troller because their powers really intrigued me. (I still have several defenders, but didn't like them as well).
I am finding that Doms and Corrs have really ruined trollers for me. If I want the lockdown power, I find I enjoy the damage secondary much more than the support. If I want debuff, I'd MUCH prefer corruptor because of the damage and soloability.
Anyone else feeling this way? Give me a reason to love my trollers again. I went from my fire/rad troller being my "main" to literally never playing that toon anymore. -
Quote:My honest, not trying to be funny, advice for new players if I can ONLY say ONE thing: This is a game where your choices don't doom you forever. Have fun, do whatever, don't worry that you will pass anything up or make wrong choices. Nearly every single thing you do will be able to be "fixed" later.I was, until recently, heavily involved in another MMO (which shall remain unnamed), and, as such, I have been left with certain preconceptions. This other game was exceptionally action/customization focused, which are two things I love, so I won't be entirely leaving that one, but I have started playing CoH to supplement it. And, frankly, I'm playing alot more CoH than the other one.
My MMO background from my other game taught me a number of things, and I'm sure they will work against me, here. First, it taught me that DPS and HP are king. There was exactly zero effective damage mitigation at end-game, which makes for a whole lot of glass cannons running around. Second, it taught me that there is no better means for DPS than using tons of DoTs. AoE DoTs, if you can manage them.
Lay it on me. -
WOW GUY! The thread wasn't contentious, just a little board fun. He wants to know what are people's all-time toon, regardless of what they are doing. Nothing wrong with that.
-
Disingenuous? I can see how you read it that way. Just jumping on while I am at work, so I am going to ask you to kindly not take my words so seriously. Thanks!

Have to agree a little with Dechs based on the information. I was fire/fire tanking without any trigger at all at 54/8
-
-
Thanks for the input all. I was actually trying to be a little funny. It made me laugh to think that a fire farm doesn't trigger it so I was laughing wondering what in the world could trigger it. I am not asking for any actual exploits, just smiling about it.
-
Yes, but what are these said exploits. I guess I am saying that since a high xp farm is not considered an exploit (by the nature of MARTy not being triggered), then what the heck IS the exploit? It seems it would have to be pretty major and pretty awesome. (er, I guess I don't mean awesome, or do I?)
-
I am not a big farmer, I just do it once in a while for something "new" to do. I did two ticket runs yesterday with 4 lowbies. Nothing was triggered and they got great xp while I earned my tickets.
So if MARTy isn't for farms, what the heck is it for? Now I am looking for what really cool thing people can do for xp that would actually trigger MARTy. Is it for large leagues destroying things (no, wait, that is the MSR and still happens).
Do we have ideas/theories of what is so awesome that it would trigger MARTy? -
Yes, things can be facerolled, but that doesn't mean they always should be. If people has followed my ONE request, it would have gone faster. There were many deaths because people didn't listen. No, debt isn't a big deal anymore, death isn't huge, but this mentality of "do what I want because it will all work out, even if it takes longer" tends to frustrate me. Seeing people's responses, it clearly doesn't frustrate others.
-
Then you are not reading...I gave one (!!) order/request for the entire TF. I didn't say, "Get behind the road" "Get out of Spawn spot" "Only flyers!!" Or any of the usual leader mantras on Katie. I simply asked them to do one thing. Hardly what I would call drill sergeant.
-
I understand your point, but I rarely give directives at all. My katie example wasn't "you guys stay here and be useless", it was an attempt to make it go faster. The two that followed me actually kept the team from doing anything because they were both melee and would have kept my team alive (which is why it was my plan). So we would have been able to meet halfway-ish if they had listened. It wasn't about glory or showboating, it was about speed.

Quote:I don't disagree with this to a point. Some servers are just hard to get a team going, so it's harder for me to want to make the team that much smaller. I know, I know, enjoying my time is easier with good players, but I get caught up sometimes.
The best option is to give however many warnings you find appropriate, then just click the Kick button if they ignore you. There's no sense in making the game unfun for everyone on the team, and people are (and will be) a dime a dozen, so you can just grab someone else to fill the spot. -
I am not one that hates PUGs they way some do, but lately things have been getting worse for me. People flat out will not listen. Then yell at you for being a jerk because you are trying to implement some sort of strategy. I think it is because the game is "old" and people know what they are doing, but does that mean there shouldn't be any plan?
I was leading a Katie the other day. I literally gave one instruction in the first 3 missions. On the 2nd mission lead out I asked the team to fight their way down while I, the tank, grabbed her and started leading her back. Two people just ignored me and when I called them on why they were following me on said, "I have done this a hundred times, I am good" (obviously I wasn't asking who could survive to katie, so that wasn't the point) and the other said, "you don't need to give orders, just kill." Grrr
I have also had people block me because on Lambda I split people into acid and grenade teams. When they were in the wrong place, I told them (Hey Captain Whatever, you are supposed to be at acids). You'd think I called his mother bad names.
Maybe I am overbearing, but I REALLY don't think so.
OK done with rant. -
Like most said, Fire/ is definitely the way to go. In fact, I find it hard sometimes to play my other blasters because of how much damage it does.
I have a Fire/Fire and I didn't enjoy the secondary for fire. The reason was that I didn't think I needed *anything* in the secondary. The toon is not gimped in any way, but I literally only took two of the secondary powers, but I am still a HUGE DAMAGE MONSTER. The good thing about /fire for a secondary on this toon was that I was free to make a lot of other power choices with the power pools. -
Quote:People take [Taunt]? (kidding!)Another funny thing happened last night, I was on a 24 person BAF and we had 7-8 tanks and brutes mixed in the teams. I forget who pulled NS but when her and the Vic's got to the courts they were running amuk and killing all the softies.
The leader screamed out ( with all these tanks and brutes doesn't anyone have taunt? ) and one of the fire brutes replies ( You don't need taunt to farm ) so me and the few vets that were on the team went WTF? lol.
Only the stone tank had taunt and that actually saved the rest of the squishies.
One guy wanted to run the BAF again but on a different map and I just about lost it lol
Its not AE people! lol
