  1. My wife and I would like to jump in on this.

I've got a Bots/Traps rolled there at lvl 1 and she'll probably go with Demons/Time
  2. For a more controlly set of real animals...

    Varmint/...
As wolves and bears are considered varmints in the mid-west, you could change the lions to skunks which could provide debuffs and holds with their choking stench.

(No, I'm not terribly serious about this, but it would make for interesting toons).

Bugs Bunny calling Elmer Fudd a "Nimrod" was used in sarcasm because Nimrod was a mighty hunter while Fudd was not. It doesn't actually mean "stupid person".
  4. Same as Talen, I just logged into my MM and his trays were wiped, and my macro buttons were lost. Thankfully my Ill/Rad troller on Virtue was safe, as his tray is half macro buttons to vocally cast his powers and I'd REALLY hate to have to do them all again.
  5. I shall take the advice of a fellow Virginian and roll a plant-dom as well. I tried them when they first came out, but I disliked the Rogue Isles so much, I never played any villains other than my bots/traps MM past lvl 5. Now my MM is a rogue who is working blue-side until I get my patron PP and then I'm going full hero.
  6. I think the reason I figure that blasters are a bit more fragile, and why I ask about their fragility sans controls, is because not only do I have a tendency to "derp-out" at times and totally forget what I'm doing, but I also have 5 cats and a wife, so someone's usually fighting, puking, blowing up the litterbox, or asking me for something so distractions are easy to come by. On my blaster, I simply drum my fingers on 1, 2, 3, and 4, and my character just plays himself until everything is dead. But with Doms and Trollers, That seems to just hold the same guy REALLY hard while his buddies turn me into a pinata.

    But it's good to know.
  7. I see value in each of y'alls posts, and they really do go far to explain Dominators. I am curious. Outside of mezzes for mitigation, how fragile are Dominators? Are they middle of the road like Controllers? Are they glass-cannons like Blasters?
  8. Thanks for all the awesome replies. It's funny, but it seems that I've been playing my elec/elec blaster a lot like a dominator. I use stamina drains and ST holds for control and then mix in melee and range attacks as I fly in and out of the scrum. Seems that playing a blaptroller would really be more what I am looking for (of course, I rolled him back in i8, long before elec control). I rolled a new elec/elec dominator and I'm excited to give him a shot.

    Thanks again.
  9. Heyo,

So I'm an old-school player, dating back to just before Issue 2 went live. I've taken a few large breaks here and there, so I end up having to process huge amounts of updates all at once. Typically, I'll play blasty ranged types of characters, or brutes.

Dominators are something I've always struggled with. I've played controllers and I've played blasters, and dominators seem to be an amalgam of the two. However, I can't figure out the right mindset to be using while playing one. I know that part of the issue is that I hate playing red-side which was the only way to play one for the longest time. Now that that's been nullified, I'm interested in trying a dominator again.

Rather than asking what the best power combinations are, or how to best build one, I'm going to ask all you experienced dominators out there how the dominator is supposed to be played. What mindset should I have, what goals on teams should I try to achieve? How does one balance support and damage without crippling them both?
  10. Heh, you're lucky. My launcher hasn't been able to connect to the update server for a week. I tried everything I could find online without uninstalling the game, and when I did uninstall it, the thing won't re-download/install it now. It's killing me, and I can't find a single answer that works.

    I miss the old updater.

Not once did the OP say that the information wasn't there. What they DID say is that they couldn't find it when they searched. So calling them a liar and saying they didn't actually looked simply because they said they didn't find the information is a pretty jacked up thing to do, especially since now it is you that is spreading falsehoods.

I did a search myself and came up with very little. I did stumble on this thread which, as the OP also stated, had information that helped me in it. What I did not find with that search was any of the threads you linked to in this thread. Are you going to call me a liar, and say that I never actually looked too? Or do you think that you might be able to accept that someone else's search-fu is not necessarily as good as yours?

  13. This thread is now about Blazing Aura, GO!!!
  14. Now the big question is what DON'T you take for Lightning Field?

From the Primary, I take everything but Zapp. Secondary consists of everything but Lightning Field, Charged Brawl and Lightning Clap. I take hasten, hover, fly, and the Fitness trinity from the pool powers, and I take all the elec ancillary powers except EM Pulse.

What should one drop to put this in? Now, I'm sure that running a straight blapper, I could probably drop a couple of my range attacks, but getting rid of the Tier 1 and 2 attacks hurts if I get mezzed, dropping Tesla Cage is bad mojo because of its mitigation, and I certainly can't ditch Sparky. Thunderous Blast could go, but that's just so much goodness, as is Ball Lightning for AoE love.

So what power could/should be sacrificed for Lightning Field?
  15. Well, we had two emp defenders, one elec/fire blaster, me (elec/elec), a tank, a BS/Regen scrapper, and a FF/Energy defender. Part of my fear was that we didn't have enough damage, and only had seven people.

I certainly would not gimp my build for the sake of set bonuses. I'm just thinking that if I can use those bonuses to make a solid build better, then I will.
  16. I was just mulling this over this morning. I've got a lvl 50 elec/elec/elec, and I did the Khan TF last night. I was doing quite well through most of it (dispite having to re-learn how to play him on the fly, as it had been a while and he's so different). However, we all had to stop the TF because, while we were doing damage to Reichsman, it wasn't going fast enough and we were literally falling asleep. Now, I'm not fully enhanced, after last respec and transferring my monies to help build my farm toon has left me a bit broke, but I was wondering if I might not get a bit more bang for my buck slotting IO Sets for damage rather than recharge to help compensate for elec being so middle-of-the-road.

It seemed like a good idea to slot for recharge and make up for lost damage by firing more shots. This would certainly make my endurance draining more effective, but would I be better suited slotting sets that offer damage buffs over recovery buffs where it's applicable?

This seems like a pretty good place to put this question, as a possible solution to the feeling that elec/ is a little weak. (Don't get me wrong, though. Elec is still my fave by far.)

    Elec/Elec/Elec

My first toon to 50 and still my main toon is an Elec/Elec/Elec. It's a powerful toon that is so underplayed, people still scream about not being able to target enemies because they're dancing in my Thunderous Blast. They also ask, quite often, why the enemies aren't hitting back and if they're glitched.

What you have to do is not look at this from a blaster's standpoint. Elec^3 is a Blaptroller (Blaptrollanker when you have Surge of Power going). You have 3 st holds, 1 st imob, two AoE soft controls (endurance drain), you have some VERY hard-hitting melee attacks, good ranged attacks, and you're a god when SoP is going. If you were to take the Medicine pool, you could fill in for ANY missing AT in the team, or help any one that's having trouble.

The trade off is that you don't particularly excel at anything. You can be a big knife, a big screwdriver, a big saw, a big cork screw, a big pair of tweezers, or you can be a Swiss Army Knife and be a little version of each.

Still holding my breath for Electric Control because there isn't enough electric love in the game.
  18. My wife and I love making duo toons, but they've always been different ATs, or at least different powersets. However, I've heard that dual Emp/Sonic defenders absolutely rock and was wondering what you all thought about this.

If so, any power preferences that you could recommend? If not, what combo would you suggest?

    Thanks in advance.
  19. yeah, just gotta survive the alpha that you're going to take while Short Circuit animates.
  20. My first lvl 50 was my elec/elec blaster. He took a long break a while back, because I was bored stiff playing him as an all-ranged blaster. Once I learned the glory that is the Blaptroller, Schattenbolt is back to being my favorite toon by far. So many tools at his disposal, he can cover just about every other AT except Defenders (because I didn't take the Medicine Pool). Just keep at it, and play one to lvl 41 at least.
  21. Ah, yes. Without Power Sink, you're a tad boned on the sapping front.

And, by "Plink", I of course mean "Pwn"
  22. First thing to remember is that you're a blaptroller. melee is your friend, but only after you've locked them down with the jitters and then stolen their blue. Then you just act like lightning. Strike fast, strike hard. In and out, like a shark with ADD. BU, Ball Lightining, Run in for Short ciurcuit+Power Sink. Run out for Lightning bolt, run back in with charged bolts and aim, Short Circuit and Thunderstrike, run back out. Anyone that's left alive just plink away at them until they drop. Sleep bosses and LTs, and always have Sparky floating with you.
  23. Folks, save your fingers the trouble of typing. I put in a rather harsh rebuttal to this "guide", letting the OP know just how disappointed I was in the farce, and it got deleted, probably by a mod. Just move along and forget you ever saw this particular thread.

[edit: It also plainly says you want something that deals the most damage and has the most survivability.]

What, like a psy-blaster that wears power armor, or a mage that can tank, or something?
