  1. From a relatively new brute player - ss/elec i's very fun to play - good dmg aura, self heal at lv 25, end drain at lv 35 paired with FS and ball lightning is a great combination. Yeh you don't get to much def on him pre IO sets but I had no problem doing +1,+2/2,3 missions just to test him on SO and normal IO before he hit lv50. I had 60% s/l res and 40% res for the rest (no toxic) with normal IO.
Btw power sink is not only a "panic button" for me. It helps with the rage crash and is (IMO) a nice cc tool as it can drain all the end from mobs and lt. in 1 hit.
  2. Question - I can get 5 Halloween merits for finishin the trial, what do I do with them? I's there a special vendor or contact for those merits?
  3. Thanks for the anwser. Yeh I was asking witch of the 3 primary and 3 secondary power pools I choose would suit my needs the best.

What is the issue with Storm? I's it the fact that some of the powers cause knockback?
Well I think I will choose between rad or kin for a primary and fire, sonic for the secondary set.
  4. Hello all ^_^ I'm planing to roll a fender and I could use some help with the power pool selection. My main toon is a ss/elec brute and as I start to IO him with the big stuff I find myself to be bored of playing the same toon all the time.
My 2 "I do dmg lolz" alts (SJ/Inv brute and Crab)are not the solution for me atm :P
I was thinking about Storm, Rad or Kin as a primary set and Fire, Sonic or Rad for the secondary. This selection is based ot the info I got from reading the defenders forum. I don't like to PL my toon but I have zero expierinece with those sets and I don't have the time to play 3 alts to 50 just to see with one I will like the most.

Now a few thing that are important to me:
I would like to be usefull in teams (I know wow) and be able to solo on my own to. I like to do solo missions becous I enjoy the story arcs and take the time when doing them.
Second I's the difference between fenders and corr really so big as people say? Are defenders more like tanks and corrs more like brutes?

I have 3 concepts for my toon in mind - i't would be Strom/Sonic - Rad/Fire(Rad/Rad) - Kin/Sonic. Good on teams but with a "punch" of his own.

    Thanks for the help.

The amount of +def/+res available from IOs, Incarnate abilities (Cardiac Alpha for more +res, Destiny), the increase of team sizes, single target buffs being made AoEs, etc. I can only see this problem getting worse as time goes on, not better. Tankers are already getting super saturated with mitigation, where Brutes can keep growing until the difference becomes a wash. At that point, the only thing Tankers will offer over Brutes is Bruising (which doesn't even stack).
Having this in mind I got a question to you guys - how could (hypothetically) nerfing or buffing a class help solve this situation? Not every player start out as a 50+1 super god of war and destruction with only the best IO sets. There is still a big part of the game to be played pre 50lv. Especially now as coh is f2p and free players have acces only to SO.
IMO there is a big difference between scrappers, brutes and tankers using only SO or basic IO and I know some people use them. I'm using basic SO on my ss/elec brute right now as he is 45lv. I got only 3bill ATM to start buying the expensive IO set for his final build end game build.

I can hit hard and I can take a good beating before I go down but the tanks I team with are better at tanking and staying alive (well most of them) and the scrappers usually do more dmg than I do.

He wants to encourage people to think before they speak.
Call me a pessimist but after 2 yeras of WOW I thinki this is impossible to achive and not only in mmo's. We are doomed as a species
And I'm not saying I'm better.
  7. Out of 100% of the brute players population just what % claims brutes are better? Can you give us some numbers? Just saying you seen lot of them is a poor argument.
And you wan't them to come to this thread and give you proof for this claim that will force a nefr so you can fell good about your claw/wp scrapper?

I'v seen scrappers saying brutes are **** and that scrap are far superior to brutes in every way. Should I go and demand a nerf becous some guys claim scraps beta brutes on every field?

Ok let's say 100 players will come and give some good and reasonable arguments. You will say that now we have proof and brutes need to be nerfed. But at the same time 100 scraps players will come and give some good and reasonable arguments that scrappers are in fact better. What then? Would you still call for a nerf just to be sure no brute player can even think that brutes are better? And what if it turns out both AT are euqal?

Man so what if some people say stuff? If this is a sore point for you I don't want to know how you react in real life if somebody says something you don't like.

Don't get me wrong I don't care if the devs will nerf the brutes or not. Nerfs are part of the mmo biznes. I just think your motives are purely personal and have nothing to do with balancing the game or making it better for everyone.

ps. I don't mean to offend you I just find this conversation interesting so Im sticking to it
  8. Gavin you do realize this is all up to personal preferences? Even if brutes are in the end a bit better than the scrappers that dosen't mean scraps have no reason to exist. Going down this road what is the point of having the defender AT in the game if the players say the corrs are better in every way?

Do we actualy have evidence that people are not invited in to team because the are scrappers and not brutes? I don't think the brutes are an auto win aT in the hands of every player more than the scrappers are.
Plus I think you will find that many players don't like to fury mechanic or the overall play style of the brutes, the fact that brutes can bee seen as tanks etc...

If you play form lv 1 to 50 (not just power level), palying a brute and scrapper is totaly different. Ok not tolaly but you know what I mean.
And at the end of the day when you got your 50+1 toon with enchantments worth 10bill or more is it so important that the 50+1 brute/scrapper next to you deals 5% dps?
  9. You wrong. What he's saying is that some % of player says that the brutes are better and some say they are just equal to scraps.

My point is the whole time people give good or bad argument that brutes are better or that scrappers are better. He is basically saying that there is some law that forbids the brutes to be better. So no discussion if it's true or not - brutes are not allowed to be better and if the are the devs should nerf them.

I don't give a dam if one AT is better that the other. I personaly don't like scrappers but that's me. I don't have a problem with them beeing better in the end. But I find it ridiculous to say that one AT can't be better because this is the law of the game.
  10. "If you can get softcapped to all positions, or all positions you expect to be attacked from (ranged/AoE as a hoverblaster), then you are protected from virtually everything. An attack that was all energy or fire damage, for example, would get past the S/L softcap, but would still have the ranged or melee tag that the positional defense could stop."

So if you don't play to stay in melee you will be hit hard from most range attacks that don't have a s/l attack type right?

As far as i know beeing equal is not the same as beeing superior. So in his opinion a nerf is in order whan some of the players say "my AT is as good as your". If one AT is equal to the other or better in certain power combanations it is imbalanced and should be nerfed? Great logic.

    Quote:
Am I right in believing that Brutes are intended to be sturdier than Scrappers but do less damage, so that they are effectivley in between Tanks and Scrappers on a continuum?

Because if that's true, and if, as some assert, Brutes actually do more damage than Scrappers, shouldn't we expect some sort of Brutewide nerf to get them to where they are supposed to be?
I don't think the devs said the scraps are the Kings of melee combat and no other calass is alowed to do the same dmg.

That's not really something you can argue about, it's just true.
So I expect a huge nerf is in oredr for corrs seeing how many people are saying they are better in every way than defs. Next stalker players will demand a huge nerf for the scrasp (And every player will demand a nerf for the ill/rad conlroler combo).

Most players don't even bother to test the numbers behind the AT's, and many of them are just brut or scrap fanboys. What is a bad game design is when the devs start to listen to this type of people.

"OMYGODZ AT x can be is better or equal to my AT? <NEEERDRAAAGE> NERF IT NOWZ!
ps. everyone who playes AT x shoud DIE!"

I read posts written by experienced players (no fanboys) concerning this topic and I was left with the impression that Brutes and Scrappers are both as good and can both do equaly good dmg. Not that onle AT is superrior to another. What is important is tha the play a bit differently.

    *i.e., not exaggerating

Ok enlight me why is there a "nerfcall" in order? Becous brute players can overcome the weaknes of the class and and be as good or even better than the scrappers in certain builds? Hmm I think I missed the part where it's says "Every other class Is forbidden do be equal or in certain situations better in melee than the scrappers. If they are NERF THEM!!!!"
  15. I was digging through the forums and found this build. It's got a bit better totals than the one you posted. This is the one I plan to use on my ss/elec brute.

  16. I was thinking about SJ/elec. I love my ss/elec brut but elec it does not fit the concept of the SJ character. In the long run for solo and end game - wp, erg or inv? The concept is a strong and resistant Praetorian financially doveted to Emperor Cole

ps. did you guys get initial strike for better combo poitns build up?
  17. Guess I won't get more help in this topic.
100 views and only one person was nice enough to help a noobie oh well it's still better than being totally ignored
  18. Yeh give us more costume options I'd love a Shivan Destroyer or just normal Shivan costume and the Meat Doctor from the Freakshow.
  19. Thanks for the help
Btw I was hoping somebody post their ss/elec build (I would realy like to see different pre-end and end game builds) and give me some advice about powers like Taunk, Power Surge and the patron pools.

Most people get mu or the soul set - what is the differnce betwen them? And are the pets from the pools worth geting them? And for example is it better to drop air superiority at lv 50 and use boxing and use the free power slot to grab more powers from the partos sets?

I know I ask a lot of questions but I prefere to ask them on the forum so I don't make a fool out of myself later in the game
  20. Hey guys I'm leveling my ss/elec brute. Atm he is 35lv I'm leveling the old way (normal and mayhem missions).
It's going a bit slow and is sometimes a bit boring but I want to do it this one time, next time I will just PL a character

To the point - I'm using SO right now as I get a bit overwhelmed by the endles IO combinations. This is the biuld I will most likely have at lv 50.
But I'm not sure about all the powers, I want Fly just for the concept and I love Air Superiority (don't know if it's usefull in the end game). Should I get Taunt and Power Surge? And what about patron pools mu or soul? And what powers?

As you see I am totaly lost right now :/ I'v got 500mil (CEBR) and I can get 1bil if I can push myself to grind the Cebr missions. Im looking for a good build to start the end game and be good in general. I will play solo/team 50/50.

ps. sorry for all the bad grammar, english is not my native language.

  21. I'm a new player and I have no problem finding my way around the forums or the game for that matter.

This "things need to be easy for new players" thing is a bit silly and i't look to similiar to what they did in Star Wars Galaxy (R.I.P). The devs wanted the game to be "IZIII" for newbies and made it look like the "OTHER BIG MMO" or other mmos in general.
IMO you doing a similar thing - ie. more kill x mobs on the map missions, a tutorial similar to the other superhero mmo etc.

Updating the forums won't lure more playres in to the game TBH.

ps. I hope we won't see a "MEGA SUPER COMBAT UPDATE" that introduces global cooldown

For newcomers, that will be either terrifying, or boring. ...or both. Does anyone here remember what it's like to see a new player anymore? I sure as hell don't. :P
Well Im new just transferd my main char from virtue.
DarkGob, ClawsandEffect and others posts in my server topic helped with the decision.
Oh and I got beer and pie on the way to pinn.
  23. Thank you all for the replies.

Now I'm not, a 100% solo player. Usualy in a MMO I first start a dps/tank char and level him up to max lv the normal way doing quests and enjoing the story (CoH has some fun story arcs) and then I end up roling a support or "priest" party-friendly type and he becomes the main char
I was thinking about Guardian and Pinnacle before so I think I give them a try
    .
Now I'v got nothing against Virue. It looks like a big and fun community but I thend to stay away from rpg servers. I never know how to act around rpg players. Don't want to force ppl to act OOC nor am I good at even light rp a char.

    Thanks again for the help
  24. Hey guys Im quite new to the game. I'v been playing for 3 weeks now on Virtue but I found out it is a rpg server and Im not a rpg type of player so I can't fit in to the community and play solo most of the time.
Im looking for a server that is quite alive and not populated by lv 50+1 god toons only

What servers are good for a casual player who has time to lv only one character at a time and want's to chat about everything and nothing on the chat from time to time.

Im from EU but the 2 european servers look a bit dead atm.

TopDoc thank you for this giude. And thanks to Hyperstrike for the insp. tip. Got 125k from seling them, I started the runs and now I got 50mil inf
I can focus on playing the game with my normal characters and I don't have to worrying about inf.

For a casual player like myself this guide is pure gold. And the way you did the mobs in your map is just brilliant.
