Quote:if i may suggest, dies irae by verdi is a fave. the anime giant robo used it well for a some global cataclysm scenes.I need a good song for this video. I'm tempted to use "Magic Man" by Heart, but on the other hand, I think it needs something big and sweeping and over-the-top orchestral bombastic.

i hear you..but my main villain is a plant dom, and she is so getting that cape..she doesnt even wear capes, but she is getting that one. the aura too. natural is a really broad thing really, could be martial artists, soldiers, sports guys, various nonhuman entities like dragons, trolls, aliens or werewolves who just happen to be tough but in a non-augmented way, its a bugger to pin down. In this case its actual nature, but given the popularity of plant control users, i suspect it will fit some other people as well as it does me.

as we were discussing in a few threads, those days never really happened. there were a small number of big drops of costumes, issue 4, issue 10, and issue 13, and you can count the ones from issue 7 maybe, but you had to buy cov to get them(for a few years at least)and issue 8, but those were gated to long term vet players. but really the major bulk of the costumes came from the boxes. If we go by the broader definition of costumes to include weapons and power/animation customization, it looks like issue 19 is going to come with a significant number of those for ranged blasts. I can understand how you feel, but as someone who is obsessive about costume pieces, those days were a slightly skewed perception rather than a reality.

no, the capes are a leaves one for nature, for sci a glowing lattice like from the ppd debuff, a flexable metallic one for tech, a kind of streached meat/symbiotic thing , and magic is a bat wing looking cape. the auras are nature: leaves and thunderclouds, tech is steam vents and sparks , science is cryogenic and atomic, magic is the runes and tarot cards, and mutant is bioflames and a subtle vapors one. liking the runes myself, this one get bought for me.
-
5 capes, i think 10 auras, one themed to each origin. the runes aura from tin mage is on magic.

Quote:you can if you wish, but lets be realists here, both expansions to coh were massive amounts of resources tied up that lead to smaller free issues and had very long development cycles, they all carried the expectation of something game changing and required significant risk if not well recieved. boosters are small, likely relatively easy to produce packs of additional art assets. probably not trivial, but taking up a lot less resources than an expansion by a large margin. they are fast, targeted content packs at relatively low costs that most likely can be worked on while allowing the majority of the team to still work on issue content, and are priced low enough that they are likely less risky. I like expansions but i know that each time one is being worked on, we are going to see smaller(though often still impressive for what they are) issues and a sort of rubberbanding of content, so ya know, maybe the small lead in and quick deployment is better in my opinion than a long lead in and tying up of resources.Personally, Id rather the effort had gone into expansions instead of booster packs.
Expansions are great, but lets not confuse major shifts with smaller releases. -
so anyhow sam. qr because i am getting sick of certain topics so i had to skip a lot of the thread, but i bet you like the cov clone arc guy from issue 17 too. it is a good thing that the developers are working on turning the passive mission giver-mission recipient dynamic on its head that has been the hallmark of mmos for so long. I had really felt it endemic to the system, but recently the writing has helped make it a bit more bearable, even if the mechanic still is the same.

will it make alot a word?

yeek, just noticed how that sentence flowed, to clarify, i was saying that i am someone who is not knowledgeable about making games, outside of what i have gleaned as an outsider reading developer diaries from various games, not that i think they are holding back, that could have been read very differently than intended.
-
Quote:if anything i'd call that a concise version of my point. well states sam.
If that means I get called a stupid fanboy, then so be it, but I'd sooner pay for what I want and get it than complain about what I'm not getting.
The issue at hand with arbiter's comparison is that he compares paid to non-paid after boosters started coming out. I dont see that as a comparison that really makes his point. a better comparison would be how much stuff we have gotten before boosters started and after, that would tell us how much we could reasonably expect for free content from issues. now i don't have the numbers, i know there was a list memphis and crew used to post, but i couldn't find it anywhere, so i'm not going to make a specific claim about the number being the exact same, but taking into consideration power customization and weapons, that skews the numbers as well, those are art assets used to improve a player's ability to refine their look, I cant see that as being different in kind than costumes pieces. To me arbie's list primarily shows that we have gotten fairly good value for cost on boosters. I guess the problem is that for those of us(and i am thoroughly in this group) who really dont know the ins and outs of game programming and dont know the costs and timetables of this, it seems like sure they just have time to do all this stuff and they are just holding back, same with dlc on other games, and at times it may be true, game companies are businesses, and if they don't make money they close and everyone loses a job, but other times it really does affect what can and cant be done when the extra cash comes in and they can have more resources.
That said, i really do hope that we get some free stuff soon, partially on a psychological level, i think it would help with people's concerns. It seems that the art team is working hard, so i have confidence, but like a kid at a candy store, my reaction emotionally can feel like "gimmie gimmie now" even though rationally i know why they can't and still give us other content. -
it wsnt research, it was compiled in an effort to prove a point, but was done in a careless way because the point was already a foregone conclusion to you. supplying data to support yourself in an argument that you haven't bothered to verify only weakens your argument.

for pvp, agreed(which, if you follow arbie's posts, is generally his complaint, the costumes thing..i smell concern trolling), but for costumes, it was pretty good, and people who play a significant number of alts really have to appreciate patrol exp. rotate my roster every night i play, and run it at full speed for a level...then go craft/market. the badges were pretty too.

It is a customization option, just like auras, i reiterate, you are being literal to skew the results, power customization is a cosmetic option to allow you to customize your character's look to your preference, both in color and in some cases, effects. just like costume pieces, power customization, as well as alternate animations are effectively the same as costume pieces. By the way, i followed that thread a bit longer, did you ever get an accurate count of costume pieces in issue 13, i notice Memphis mentioned that later and you admitted you didnt get a accurate list of costume pieces from i13, since that was one of the largest free costume dumps in the game, you really should add it. or is the list also factually inaccurate, as well as a biased sampling?
-
ok, no that was ridiculously biased and pretty much worthless, the intensely narrow definition of costume purposely skewed the results. ignoring both improvements to costume pieces(tails) and power customization pretty much rendered that invalid.

eh, the problem with video games is that rewarding one behavior can have the perceived effect of punishing the opposite. halved debt and miss complete bonuses incentivised people to do mission content, but lead many to feel "punsihsed" for street sweeping. I really have to say that havign started mmo'ing when they were a lot more punishment based...im ok with the lack of penalties for this, it inhibits freedom for those who want to switch and really would defeat the purpose of the expansion. If concept matters, then it matters. rian frostdrake will never go from hero, it fits his theme, my reward, such as it is, is to be able to run the tip missions that really reinforce the concept of being a hero to me, pick up some alignment merits, and have some fun pugging instances. that is the reward, and i dont need any more of a carrot or stick than that. oh, and that power, but right now my temp power list is so clogged, i probably have a temp hamidon pet-summoning power i am unaware of, so really havent used it much.

Quote:well, you have to be a realist. devoting resources costs money, coh has finite resources, to be able to free up the resources to do a specifically targeted pack, something has to pay for that. yeah, 15 covers continued development, but that development is, by necessity, broad. to get something specific (victorian, steampunk, gothic.more monstrous, and some freaking cheongsams and kimono tops) those have less broad appeal. so it is reasonable that for myself and the subset of players who want those themed new things, the most likely way to get it is to offer additional money to cover the resources used by its development. we can wait, of course, occasionally we get lucky and something free comes out that fits our tastes, but for items that are special ordered, much like getting a suit tailored versus buying of the rack, you pay more.Again, you guys know I wasn't complaining about boosters but people who want things to be boosters over being free, right?
my take is that if i can get Dave to shake loose some resources to give me stuff that fits my personal tastes, then yeah, its pretty much a "tip" for the additional service. the costume stuff that we get that is generally thematically linked to the issues should still be free(and really should be a bit more frequent) buuut, reasonably, not all themes will be addressed in issues, for the other stuff, a booster is a reasonable compromise, in my view. Some paid things i disagree with, the wolf tail i probably would have made free, size shifting too, but taking the full context of the situation with the wolf thing, it probably made the most sense to be agreeable to everyone. -

Quote:but we really didnt, that is part of the misconception really. we had about 4 really big free costume additions, issue 4 with the Asian themed costume sets, that was for the korean launch, issue 10 with exproto, stealth, vanguard and variants, the slight bunp after issue 12 where we got jester and enforcer. and issue 13 with the large number of civilian costume pieces. we also got some significant costume pieces with issue 8 for veterans, though their tie to veteran status makes it difficult to entirely tie them to an issue, and issue 9 had a very focused number of wings, and we got capes in issue 1. beyond that we really didn't get many new costume pieces for free(important distinction, gr, cov and launch were all paid) some face and hair packs, or additions to existing stuff like issue 7, but no less really than we are getting now,. furthermore, we have had additions to the game post-boosters in the form of new weapons and new effects and animations. we have to remember that while they are done by different teams, those are also customization options that lack a mechanical consequence, so lets throw issue 16 and the upcoming issue on that list. Those of us who are long-time subscribers are seeing more and more of the new content that used to be covered by our monthly subscription fee being sold separately as booster packs instead. .
Dont get me wrong, i want new free stuff, but people who think that free costume pieces just abruptly ceased with the introduction of boosters remember differently than they really happened. I want more costumes, i want a HELL of a lot more costumes and it does sometimes baffle me that for the staffing up at paragon, that we didn't see some more art people to put out more costumes for the use of the players, there hasn't been a real improvement over when it was the 15 in terms of numbers of sets. but just looking at boosters is , to me, making a scapegoat. There really is not a real precedent that says that if they weren't charging for the new pieces, that we would instead be seeing work of their quality as part of the standard game, more likely we simply wouldn't be seeing the additional investment in art and would simply be getting the status quo we had in the issues before the boosters. -
i loved blade kitten, even made a thread for it back when such things were allowed. ok, yeah i did forget a few, so in that case i re-shift the blame on the economy. technically out of recession, but such things hit in ripples, and a lot of us are still hurting.thanks for the names. i suspect on the hardware side, the implosion of the psp go didnt help matters, strongly suspect that the 3ds might take some time tog et momentum if it launches close to its Japanese price (near 300 bucks), nintendo rules handhelds, but that price may cause a slow adoption rate for a handheld.
-
the recession, while technically over, still is kicking people's butts.
also, this is a sign of the new normal, the longer life cycle game console, and that is fine by me really, longer lifespans mean that developers get a better feel for their systems, so while hardware makers may sell less(and generally outside of nintendo, hardware is usually sold initially at a loss for the companies) more polished offerings, particularly from first party teams, will be the eventual upshot..so long as the recession doesn't put too much of a restriction on people's income, a lot of people who found work did so at lower pay than they had, that limits entertainment budgets.
finally, were there any big games this september(outside of halo reach)? i know October should have some big names with fable 3 and fallout new vegas, but i dotn recall getting much personally this month, that doesnt mean that much, but outside of halo, which was as gorilla-sih as ever, were there big hits? -
yeah. its so stupidly absurdest, that it sticks with you. she really has no powers, just talks in a stilted fake german accent and has the mustache and a vaguely reminiscent haircut. its like a lot of the show, it makes so little sense that its hysterical.

sorry to hear that, hope to see you back soon. will leave a peacebringer in tier nine mode on for you.
