I don't feel it's a far cry to say the main attraction of I19 was incarnates. There wasn't much else to it. And yes, the main story of the game was being told via a TF only Incarnates could really do. So I don't see how "Well...there may be an arc about saving Officer Wincotts cat!" is much reassurance.
you see, the problem with this rampant hyperbole is that it is completely and utterly a misstatement of the content of the new non-incarnate arcs, both of which have threads praising their writing and feel. Neither significantly fleshing out the story of how the medical porters work, and how equitably they are distributed, nor going into one of cov's big elemental monstrous forces is "saving wincotts" cat, and phrasing it like that just makes the opinion look like an ill-informed knee jerk reaction.

that is just a silly amount of inflexibility that ignores reams of cases where individuals from gang or other criminal related pasts in which they did horrible things turned their lives around and became strong role models for their communities who were able to demonstrate how to avoid their shortfalls. It damns salvageable people for a moral concreteness that one should have matured beyond by age 12, its an actively dangerous, short sighted moral stance.

    Issue 19.5

we will have to see, i do not see the alpha content as being part of a paid pack, i think that was just a particularly snappy phrase. i do expect the booster to be, as all the boosters have, paid content though. i suspect it will be more in line with the mid issue release of the enforcer/jester pack or the February one some time ago that added the av to eb downscaling. they have, in the past, added content outside of issues, and i suspect this will be the case here.

    try the chicken Parmesan.

on topic, well this is good news. the new booster does indeed look like something i will buy as soon as it is offered, i dont have any specific birds, but since i was part of the crowd that was asking for monster bits when the mutant pack came out, i'd pretty much have to buy it . i assume the strike pack will have the rare and very rare alpha enhancers, eh im in no hurry there, i got my mains to 2 commons and an uncommon, so i'm quite content. really excited about the newsletter, and thats about all i know enough to say really, looks promising. It is funny that they called dcou a traditional mmo, given how adamant their devs have been about classifying it as a online action game, whoops.

I wanted my Ice tank to have Mako's Arctic Breath. It would fit perfectly into his character concept. So I figured that I'd move him redside, do Mako's patron arc, and move him back to blueside again (because the character concept *is* a hero.)

This would be the first character that I would have taken from hero to villain. (I've brought several back the other way.) I decided there were two ways I could roleplay his brief stint as a villain. I like the idea of him going undercover to infiltrate Arachnos, and a lot of his villainous deeds could be staged to trick Arachnos into accepting him. Alternately, he could be having a short mental breakdown during which he did some bad things while learning some new powers, like a vision quest gone bad.

I did not realize how bad.

At the moment he has finished 8/10 villain tip missions, causing him in the process to slaughter 'countless bystanders' at a parade, throw 'countless CoT' into damnation, destroy the souls of 'countless partygoers' at a Carnival of Souls bash, and also murder a new superhero and his aged aunt. Whoever wrote these arcs likes the word 'countless', and hates Aunt May, I'm guessing.

While I applaud the devs for giving us missions with *real* villainy for a change, it makes it difficult for me to rationalize my tank's conversion back to the light side. There's no redemption for a mass-murderer on this scale. Especially if I read the well-written after-mission texts that talk about how you rationalize your killings. It's also making me look sideways at any blueside villains I see, wondering if, before they became heroes, their bodycounts were in triple digits or 'countless'. The legal system in Paragon seems pretty lenient on genocidal maniacs.

I'm big on character concepts but not so big on roleplaying in CoH, and this is why. You have to perform some screwy mental calisthenics to make any character's plot arc in this game believable.

Right now I'm ready to consider the entire blue->red->blue arc to be a fever dream that happened to my tank while he was in a coma, or something.

Anyone have any other roleplaying ideas on how I could justify the descent and redemption of my hero?

I just wanted ice breath...I didn't want to hurt all those people...
well, my bit of storyline spackle involves (as i planned on doing this with rian, who would be great with arctic breath, until i noted that scrappers get garbage stuff for patron pools and none of the cool brute stuff) a undercover storyline, backed financially by the freedom phlanx's substantial resources. lots of acting on the part of the "victims" some behind the doors dealings and payoffs to make some people get "killed off" all so that i can pop over, appropriate some power from the enemies, and then scoot right back over like a good little double agent.

ps, can scrappers ever get a $%^ing breath weapon as an ancilliary/patorn power? please guys?
  6. excited good, but just warning since some people get ahead of themselves and then go on screaming tantrums because the devs didnt follow through on something they never promised, thats all. it happens a lot round here
  7. we were discussing this in another thread, jay is very good at cryptic comments(he told us about the valkyrie costume set by referencing led zepplin's "immigrant song") so dont expect clear answers,, and that is probably why he is allowed to post this stuff, clear info would likely mess up marketing strategies of when the scheduled information is to come out,and could tip off competitors about coh's mid to long term plans. but if it takes a mixture of Robitussin and vodka to comprehend, then its all good. the bottom line is we will know only after it comes out, then we can look back and say "thats what the heck that meant" so dont consider anything here etched in stone, just bask in the unfiltered weirdness that is jay.

remember jay, you try to leave like the others and i will tackle you and drag you back.
  8. ok so we learned that paragon has really lax drug testing standards.

well there could(but by no means is) have been hints of animalistic shapeshifitng, a beach bulkhead mission/area/event seemingly involving the resistance and the dev earth, a martial arts themed blaster secondary, a fight with praetorian hami. you could read anything into them, jay loves making vague hints, but then again, they really CANT say more than ncsoft lets them, so the vague stuff is as much as we can hope for realistically.
  9. well, the servers have maintined the same load indicators since launch of going rogue, indicating that some of the new mass attracted (or old returners) have stayed rather than just hanging out for their free month, the honeymoon has been going on for 5 months now, thats purdy. we also maintained server load during the beginning of December, when something big in the mmo world happened, though we cant say what, but y'all know what. so ya know, the next big thing is whatever was nda'd in the issue 20 beta, no idea what it was, im sure some have already set their expectations well past reasonable, but i suspect we will see something with it, they certainly seemed excited about it.

    I think so.

oh, and as schism and dumpb had hinted to, the forum rules enforcement has changed, almost no discussion of other games is allowed, be they mmos or single player console ones...i'm not thrilled about that, as there are a few i REALLY want to talk about currently, but just giving you the heads up.

    Best of 2010

well warden, i was referring to this pic but yours is pretty much what i was going for, the bustier/leather vest combo with the puffs at the arm tops. he does that and my card is flying, i have a few steampunk chars as well as a cowgirl concept in mind, and that would be pretty much exactly what i was asking for. so completely agreed, good find ps, can we do something like the skirt and pistol too? the rifle is nice as well.
  12. welcome back. ok first question, did you get the expansion? if so, quite a lot has changed. the highlights right now are Pretoria, which your earth prime characters can go back to for events with cute little rewards. there are also the new tip missions, i love them, really good for making your character really feel like a hero villain or some shade in between. finally is the big one if you have a 50 thats maxed out, if i remember your main was sabre justice, right? well, now you can go on a alternate series of enhancements that get progressively better. right now its a progressive series of super enhances, upcoming will be other things, at least one we know of is a "nuke" basically that you can unlock, the upper level of it is suitably pornographic. lets jsut say upper level teams for tfs are a lot easier to get. there is other stuff, like a new story arc for villains and one for heroes that came in issue 17 but thats the stuff i have been doing.

oh i remember you were a fan of tails the fox from sonic, the mutant pack, a purchasable option that includes a fluffy wolf like tail.

the only reason i can is it reminded me veats have a storyline, i got so stuck on rwz runs and co op stuff, neither veat has done it for a long time. i really need to play it some day. heats re the same, i made a warshade last week, adn pretty much bumped into her contact, took me a sec to remember they had a separate story.

Those alone would double, no, quadruple what we could do with the costume creator.
you know, i know you are on my side here, but i always find it funny that people ignore how much just separating tails from belts opened up character costumes just because you could make new mixes. these would do liekwise, i hope they find a way finally.

fixed, seriously, that is how it works. assuming that lack of evidence indicates a falsehood is a example of a fairly basic logical fallacy called denying the antecedant. if x then y, not x therefore not y. this is the origin of a great deal of poorly though out positions across a number of disciplines, but it is wrong, and promoting it is to promote poorly compsed logic. http://www.fallacyfiles.org/denyante.html
  22. a. its evil ryu
b.after hiring a huge number of employees a while ago, they laid off 8, including a very popular one who i liked very much as well. castle and ocho both phrased their exits as having job opportunities that will be advantageous to them, this is a mass exodous that indicates the closure of the game.but doomers gotta doom, see point a.
  23. ok, that was a little harsh, but really, come on, that ship has sailed, coh does not have the population to warrant significant investment in pv., its dead, those who still enjoy it will do what they do, but it just doesn't really matter.

family is family, your reasons are understood, you have responsibilities and are a good man for standing up and doing the right but difficult thing. now get a character on liberty and look for the most garishly colored character there, my jokes are even more stream of unconsciousness when they are ad-libbed. admittedly a full 30% of them will make no linear sense whatsoever without a very specific perscription, but the others are good.
