Maybe it's something leftover my FPS gaming days, but it's a lot more fun in this game. Toggle on Sprint and jump away! I usually do it while singing "The Gummi Bears" theme song.

And that typically works pretty well. Especially with all the rentable jets for dealing with places like Grandville and the Shard.

However, the oddity at hand is that in theory Swift and Hurdle should be comparable. I think what may be forgotten in the discussion though is that Swift increases Flight speed as well. Whereas Hurdle is pretty well focused on the jump travel speed only.

You can make a good argument that the two benefits don't really ever apply to the same character. In that, if you're using hover, you're getting no benefit from run speed. And if you don't have fly, the only benefit you get from fly speed is from temps [I'm not even sure on that].

This was far more relevant of issue when you had to choose one or the other, and they should be roughly balanced. Currently, not so much.

There is the logic issue of generally being able to jump faster than you can dash/sprint. Which is significant, but personally I find the difficulty of justifying Superspeed as a travel means to be more core to the issue.

Yes, and as I mentioned, it isn't necessary for any content in this game.

But that's how they want to play, and it's better that the two differing views not group together. Forcing them together would be more awkward than a bromance between Positron and Captain Mako. It's better for both sides to just not intersect .

Exactly, don't try to force it to work if you don't want to . Given that there's not built-in voice chat for the game, the sharing of details must happen at some point for it, which is as good a time as any to resolve such differences [preferably before action actually starts].

This is at best a minor inconvenience, since I can just replace the powers back down to their slots, but it's annoying in that if I log a character in for just a few minutes, that character is almost unplayable without major maintenance.
Can't say I experience this. My last logon for many of my chars was 200+ days ago, and their layout is the same.

Ok, that's sad that I remember the layout from 200 days ago.
  4. As others said, the problem wasn't vent, the problem was the player not paying attention.

Similarly, if someone was running a group or whatever and they were using voice-chat to set it up and arrange it, it'd be really annoying if someone refused to get on voice-chat.

Sure, voice-chat isn't necessary, but that's how they want to communicate (and I imagine it'd be better on both sides if you don't try to force people to communicate in a means they don't want . And can make a good argument that even text chat isn't really necessary for a lot of content either.

Bit of suggestion re Dragon and Dungeon, they still exist, just in a different format now. It's an online only distributed magazine as part of the D&D Insider program. It's not the same though, but far fewer 'outside' ads, just the traditional D&D ads 'disguised' as articles.

One frustrating note is on 'hollow' glowies [plant the bomb missions] is that while they hum, they don't hum as loud as other glowies, and many of their shapes can be difficult to see in the in City of Villains color schemes.

Another fun tip is if you know what the object is supposed to be named, you can create a targeting macro for it.

Prolly my biggest problem is if you fail once, you have a ridiculously large upward battle for subsequent attempts as he'll continue to pop up his minions around the place.

For me, the problem tended to be getting enough damage on the clones and keeping my bots in my aura range. In the end, I ended up dropping a HVAS to hold his attention while clearing out the twerps and eventually pushed him into the lava and said screw it .

Much like a comic book, a new enemy is freaking hardcore. Then as the story develops, they become less and less exceptional.

More specifically, it's the start of the conflict, as it goes on, the relevant sides will discover how to utilize their strengthes against the enemies' weaknesses.

At the launch of CoV, I got a bugged mission, but CS were so backlogged it took them two days to tell me it would take them some time to get to me But that's to be expected.

Minor inconveniences aside, however, CS have been great. Maybe I'm an easy mark, but just being able to ask for help and budge someone off his chair to kowtow to my simple problems still makes me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. And their responses lately have been quick, to boot, especially on Stuck petitions. I still remember a whole team of tech support guys taking turns to help me enable 3D sound in the game (ironic, considering I16 disabled it ) and even a guy working his *** off to help me figure out why the Microsoft Language Bar was crashing the game, even though he said it wasn't supported.

Now community reps... Those have been a mixed bag. Everyone seems to love Cuppa, and she did help me out once, but I don't think she ever really did much to enforce the forum rules. Ex Libris tried really hard to be "one of the guys," which ironically makes me cool down on people who try too hard, and she handled the Suggestions and Ideas "problem" incredibly poorly, historically banning jranger. But even in ban and exile, the spirit of /jranger lives on. She could have simply, you know, done her job by moderating, locking threads and deleting posts, but no. Let's ban a bunch of people and make things easier! I don't remember who it was that locked one of my Tech forum threads without actually reading anything past the title and then snobbed me when I complained.

On a more positive (and controversial) note, I loved Lighthouse. When he took over from CuppaJo, plenty of people got burned almost instantly, and I dare say people who should have been burned a long time ago had Cuppa actually enforced the rules. He got a bad rap because he was heavy-handed, but I wouldn't say he was ever unfair. Plus, I loved his SuperMod idea. I really liked Mod8, back when he still posted, for the same reason. It seems that almost every time we get a new mod, he or she will take part in the community, disseminating information, addressing issues and handling problems. Then give them a month or two and they pull back and start only ever posting announcements.

Anyway, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it!
I dunno, I had issues where I had a post moderated just to add a smiley to it.

Was so bizarre, oddly enough, one of the things that made me quit for a while due to how it was resolved.

    Different experiences for different folks.

KK, heres what I do: the Naga in basic 123 mode corresponds to the same keys as your keyboard numbers. What it also responds to is keybinds made with those numbers.

What I do is make all my powers that I want as keybinds as lshift+# versions. I then open up a new powers tray, vertical it, make space for it on the far right of my lower right UI, and put all keybound powers in that tray corresponding to their number. Anything over in that tray ive trained myself to know is accessed by pressing lshift + the corresponding number on my Naga. Since its essentially the same buttons used on your keyboard, the keybinds work, from the mouse, without having to click them physically.

It works pretty well for me that way, and makes me love the Naga for it.
    Hope that helps!
Something I may suggest here, load up the driver software and change those keys specifically to left-shift+Appropiate. Pretty sure the driver software got updated to let you define the keypad finally. This will free your left hand up from being on l-shift. Since if you already have your left hand on the keyboard, there's really not much to be gained by having the bind on the mouse [except perhaps if you really need L-shift 7 ,8, 9, 0, -, = ... depending on hand size].

The goal for the mouse-thumbpad should be to free up your left hand.

** this is in general, assuming a right-handed mouse.
  11. I personally have my naga sitting around doing nothing since the mouse is far too small for me, and with it's claw orientation with the thumbpad really hurts my shoulder.

Also was more than a tad disappointed in the 'naga' hotkey interface pretty much just being a new hotkey bar. And it rather failed to handle being switched to numpad mode entirely. Ah one other thing the Naga UI mode ends up pre-empting your ability to actually alt/ctrl click other powers, so if you need more than one tray open, you're going to need to mouse.

Given my playstyle [specifically with MMs] I've determined that I'm better off using another mouse [I like the shape and feel of the G9 honestly] and use the keyboard or a keypad [g13 or nostromo] for additional buttons.

Well, the last few times that NCSoft has done a name purge, they sent out a lot of emails to their former customers informing them of this.

So unless they abandoned the email or just don't check it that often, they should become aware of it.

Well, it got heavily discussed on the forums mostly due to that other game out there. And while I do acknowledge that the majority of people attending HeroCon are impartial observers relative to the whole Paragon Studios v Cryptic Studios Super Hero Games, there is the Anti-Jack factor to consider.

Of course, since you are talking about a global channel. It's similarly possible to occur with characters on other servers anyway. And on the same server now with lllusions. One thing though, the system must know the global to gignore. Which means the player can potentially know as well.

I'm not deluded into thinking every name under the sun will be opened up but likewise I don't see any good reason to have trial account names from three years ago still be locked up.
It'll help treat the symptom at least. Most succint one word names were snagged during the preorder reservation period anyway. The feedback from the prior purges tends to show that it doesn't free up that much. Perhaps because the second effect of a purge is a small subscription hike for a month.

If it is a hassle and costs too many resources, then it's not worth it. I just doubt (standard code rant) that it's that costly. I could be wrong about that aspect though.

They made the name purge cap at... level 6 was it?
    That's silly, in my opinion.

I think a full level purge... even of 4 years, would definitely open up some names.

Of course... they'd probably be gobbled up by alt-crazy vets and rarely played... but still... it'd be fun for some while it lasted.
The cost, is as you said, lost opportunities with recovering players.

I think the last line pretty much sums up the issue at hand with unique display names. Fun for Some while it lasts.

Right now, I'm in the grumpy situation of trying to find a name and then fit a costume to it, instead of being able to fit a costume to a character then make a name.

I disliked spending an hour coming up with a name I'm ultimately not that happy with for my scrapper in Praetoria :/.

One thing about the name stalking issues, that, in itself a big reason why it's something difficult to add mid-step. If it existed initially, far more folks behavior would be aware that display names weren't unique and global id was what mattered for "Player is a tool". However, I'd like to think most folks just /ignore tools instead of visually ignore them.

[ doh didn't realize that was an edited word ]

No, it's not an excuse, it's merely pointing out that one of the criticisms of a suggested change already occurs within the status quo.
  22. Part of it needs an update to the mastermind file. Mostly to include acknowledgement of the Demon Summoning powerset.

Right now though, I'm somewhat grumpy, confused as to what exactly to use as the minpow, ltspow and bospow for Demon Summoning. Right now, using demonling, demon, and demon prince respectively, but not too positive if that works.

This doesn't fix the bodyguard mode [and the drop box really too] being unselectable, but I'm not trying too hard on that end .

And no, not every powerset requires four slots to be effective, but if you intend to have a lot of powers that do more for you than a temporary boost to your effectiveness like Aim or Build Up, then you're going to want to maximize your effectiveness, and you won't be able to do that with the slots you have available to these three new options.
Someone did provide a very nice list of some power pool selections, and while I question some of them as being worthwhile at 1 slot, it is a helpful list of utility powers.

In general, I think the issue is that they don't really want this to be a case where it lets a character add another attack into their rotation [at 50]. It's more to free up the characters to select more of their attack powers before 20, and open up a few more utility power selections which were what the fitness powers really were before anyway.

Ah, presumption. No it doesn't have to show in every scenario. It should show in every scenario where it matters.

There comes the tech overhead if you want to limit it. Consider if the chat-box only displayed a distinction when there was one? It would still need to maintain knowledge of the distinction [perhaps through mouse-over. although that is admittedly a level of annoyance in terms of the user] should the situation change (the name was unique in the zone, then someone zoned in and it became non-unique). Difficulty with that becomes the 'trailing' end. And that can impose a bit of a heavy impact on the tech requirements.

Me, I like the idea of simply generating the color-hash from the global handle as a primary distinguishing factor, with say a mouseover the name for 'more details'. Just have to deal with the overlap of the color-hashes.
